Token Inspector is a Chrome extension that its creator, CapiLabs, says can extract design values from a website and export them as Tailwind configuration, Tokens Studio JSON, or a ZIP of inline SVGs. The same creator says Reddit automoderation removed a promotional post about the extension; the account does not identify a bot or establish why the post was removed. Neither the extension’s performance nor the moderation explanation has been independently verified.
What Token Inspector says it does
CapiLabs describes Token Inspector as a client-side Chrome extension for turning website design values into reusable files. The announced workflow is to inspect values such as computed CSS and export them for downstream design or development work.
- Tailwind configuration: the announcement says the extension can export extracted values as Tailwind configuration.
- Tokens Studio JSON: the creator says it can export JSON for Tokens Studio.
- Inline SVGs: the announcement also describes a ZIP export of inline SVGs.
These are the creator’s feature claims, not results from an independent test. The announcement does not establish how accurately the extension identifies tokens, which sites or CSS patterns it handles, or how its exports behave in a project.

Where extracted values fit in a Tailwind workflow
Tailwind distinguishes theme variables from ordinary CSS custom properties. Its @theme variables do more than store values: they influence which utility classes and variants Tailwind generates. For example, a theme variable named --color-mint-500 can enable utilities such as bg-mint-500 and text-mint-500. A regular custom property in :root can still be useful when a value should not correspond to a generated utility. See Tailwind’s theme-variable documentation.
#1 Best Overall
That distinction matters when reviewing an export. A list of colors or spacing values is not automatically a working Tailwind theme: the values need appropriate names and placement for the utilities a project expects. Check the generated configuration against the project’s Tailwind version and conventions before adopting it.
How the Figma and token connection works
Figma describes variables as its way of bringing design tokens into a Figma Design file. A common organization is to define primitive variables first, then connect semantic variables to those primitives. Modes can represent contexts such as light and dark themes. Figma also explains that Dev Mode can expose token names for handoff and that its REST API can retrieve variable data. Styles remain useful for complex properties such as gradients and typography. Details are in Figma’s guide to variables.
Rank #2
Token Inspector’s announced Tokens Studio JSON export is relevant to a token-based workflow, but the announcement alone does not show that the output imports cleanly into a particular Figma file or preserves its variable structure. Treat an export as a starting point to inspect and map, rather than assuming it will reproduce a file’s primitives, semantic relationships, or modes.

The CapiLabs author wrote: “I tried sharing it on Reddit this morning to get my first 20 users, but the automods instantly nuked my post because of the link.” This is the author’s description of a promotional post being removed. The account does not include a moderation notice or moderator response, so it does not establish which system acted or what specific reason led to removal.

The reported incident concerns a Reddit post, not evidence that the extension itself was blocked or that Reddit has a general rule against promotional links. The wording “Reddit bots” is therefore best understood as the author’s characterization, not a confirmed identification of a moderation bot or policy.

There are other tools in the general category of extracting webpage design details. For example, a Chrome Web Store listing for DesignClone describes extraction of colors, typography, spacing, shadows, and CSS variables, with exports for Figma, Tailwind, and related formats. Its listing showed version 1.0.1 and an update date of September 12, 2026, when observed. That listing provides category context only; it does not establish equivalent features or comparative quality.

For Token Inspector, the available product account says it operates client-side, but does not provide independent verification of its processing or privacy behavior. CapiLabs also mentions a premium version and a promotion code for the Dev.to audience; current pricing, availability, and code validity are not established.
