On Samsung Galaxy phones, TikTok’s built-in dark-mode setting may not be available. TikTok’s published instructions limit its in-app Display controls to iOS and computers. You can turn on Galaxy Dark mode to darken the phone and supported apps, but Samsung warns that some third-party apps keep their original appearance. If your Galaxy runs Android 16 or newer and offers it, Android’s Expanded dark theme is another option to try.
Why TikTok dark mode may be missing on Samsung
TikTok’s help page describes its dark-mode setting at Profile > Menu > Settings and privacy > Display, and says the feature is available on iOS and computers. Its instructions do not document a corresponding Android setting, so a Samsung user may not see Display in TikTok. App features can change, but the published guidance does not establish that an Android toggle is currently available. TikTok Support
Turn on Dark mode in Samsung settings
- Open Settings on your Galaxy phone.
- Tap Display.
- Select Dark.
- Reopen TikTok and check its interface.
You can also swipe down from the top of the screen with two fingers to open Quick Settings, then tap Dark mode. If TikTok stays light, the phone setting may still be working: Samsung notes that some third-party apps do not adopt the system theme. Try Android’s Expanded dark theme on Android 16 or newer
On supported devices running Android 16 or newer, look for Settings > Accessibility > Color and motion > Dark theme, then check whether an Expanded option is available. This feature attempts to darken interfaces in most apps that lack native dark-theme support. Manufacturers may change the menu path, and the option may not appear on every device. Expanded dark theme is less predictable than an app’s native theme. Google warns that it can alter images or make text harder to read, and some apps can remain light because they are unsupported, blocked by the manufacturer, or opted out. If an app looks wrong, Google says you can exclude apps with appearance issues from the expanded treatment. Google Android Accessibility Help

What dark mode changes—and what it does not

If TikTok remains light
- Check the app setting: TikTok’s published instructions describe the Display control for iOS and computers, not Android. Make sure you have the official, updated app, but do not expect an Android-specific toggle that TikTok does not document. TikTok Support
- Check Galaxy Dark mode: Confirm it is enabled in Settings > Display or Quick Settings. A third-party app can remain unchanged even when the system setting is on. Samsung Canada
- Look for Expanded dark theme: If the phone runs Android 16 or newer, check its accessibility settings for the option. If it makes TikTok’s images or text look worse, turn it off for the app if that control is offered. Google Android Accessibility Help
- Account for other Galaxy settings: Samsung’s U.S. support says downloaded themes, high-contrast fonts, or certain third-party apps can interfere with Dark mode; it also notes that some third-party apps remain unchanged. Samsung U.S. Support
Why some interfaces look different in dark mode
Dark themes change the presentation of interface backgrounds and controls, not just the brightness of the screen. Samsung Developer notes that black or dark-gray UI backgrounds can reduce glare but may also make images and other content look visually jarring. Samsung Developer
