The title’s story is personal: one Milwaukee tool changed the author’s buying habits after 20 years with Ryobi, and the author now owns three Milwaukee tools. It does not identify the tool or explain what made it persuasive, so it is not evidence that Milwaukee is universally better—or that the author has abandoned Ryobi.

What the story does—and does not—tell you

A single purchase can be enough to make someone consider a second tool brand. But without the Milwaukee model, the Ryobi alternative, and the job each performed, there is no fair way to identify the decisive feature or claim a head-to-head win. The three-tool count also does not tell us whether the tools share one battery system or represent a permanent switch rather than a mixed-brand collection.

To judge the purchase on its merits, the useful details are the exact models, what task prompted the change, what the author noticed while doing that same task, and what came in each kit. Until those details are known, the story is best read as an account of one person’s changing preferences, not as a product ranking.

How to compare a Milwaukee tool with a Ryobi one

Compare tools intended for the same job, not brand names or voltage labels in isolation. Milwaukee’s M18 and Ryobi’s 18V ONE+ are distinct systems; the nominal voltage alone does not establish that two tools have similar output, features, or suitability for a task.

  • Match the job and tool class. Compare two tools designed for the same kind of work and use the same material and task where possible.
  • Record the exact models and conditions. Note model numbers, settings, material, and the output or runtime measure that matters for your work. Separate a personal observation from a published specification or independent test.
  • Compare the full purchase. Check whether each price is for a bare tool or a kit, and list the included batteries and charger. Include the date and region when comparing prices.
  • Check ownership support. Look up the model-specific warranty, parts, manuals, repair options, and service terms before treating the purchase price as the full cost of ownership.

No matched tool pair or comparable test result is identified in the story, so it cannot establish a performance advantage, runtime difference, durability rating, or savings for either brand.

Check battery compatibility before buying

Battery compatibility is system-specific. Milwaukee describes M12, M18, and MX FUEL as separate cordless systems; match the battery and tool labels, and confirm the individual tool’s manual before buying. Milwaukee states that M18 batteries fit M18 tools and chargers, and M12 batteries fit M12 tools and chargers. Those statements do not identify which system the author’s three tools use. Milwaukee’s battery FAQ and its battery-selection guidance explain the system distinctions.

Ryobi says its 18V batteries are compatible with Ryobi 18V ONE+ tools. Its current 18V ONE+ product page, accessed October 7, 2026, describes a platform of more than 300 products; that is Ryobi’s catalog claim, not an independently audited count. See the Ryobi 18V ONE+ battery page for its compatibility statement.

Do not assume a Milwaukee battery works with a Ryobi tool, or vice versa. The manufacturers’ cited materials describe their own systems; they do not establish cross-brand compatibility. If you already own batteries and chargers, list their system labels and confirm that the candidate tool belongs to that exact platform before counting those accessories toward your savings.

Use the support terms to complete the decision

Both manufacturers provide owner-support resources, but the specific terms and availability depend on the model. Milwaukee’s support page links to operator manuals, parts information, eService, service-center repair, and warranty resources. Milwaukee says factory-trained technicians typically complete repairs in 7–10 business days; “typically” is not a promised turnaround for a particular repair.

Ryobi’s support page directs owners to model-number-specific manuals, parts, repair, service centers, warranty information, and battery recycling. Check the exact model and applicable terms for either brand rather than assuming that support coverage is identical across a product line.
