If GNOME Software feels like the wrong fit, choose a replacement by what you need it to manage: KDE Discover is the closest match for browsing and installing desktop apps, dnfdragora is a graphical frontend for DNF/RPM packages, and Warehouse focuses on installed Flatpaks. They do different jobs, so none is a universal substitute for every Fedora software task.

There is no controlled, current benchmark showing that any of these is faster than GNOME Software. A Fedora Workstation 41 discussion includes one user’s favorable speed impression of Discover, but that is an individual report, not a performance guarantee for your system.

Choose by the kind of software task you have

Tool Best fit Scope
KDE Discover Finding and installing desktop applications Graphical app-store workflow; fit and available sources depend on the Fedora setup
dnfdragora Browsing and managing RPM packages through DNF DNF package-manager frontend, not a general app catalog
Warehouse Managing installed Flatpaks Flatpak details, user data, and batch management; not designed as a complete app store

These distinctions matter because Fedora software can come from different package sources. The Fedora Project Wiki FAQ describes DNF as accessing repositories to download and install software packages; its page is community maintained, so treat it as general context rather than a current compatibility guarantee. A graphical app store may not show every package available through DNF repositories.

KDE Discover: closest to a traditional graphical app store

KDE describes Discover as a tool for finding and installing applications, games, and tools. It is the most natural option here if the main frustration is browsing a graphical catalog rather than administering packages directly. See the KDE Discover project.

In a Fedora Workstation 41 community discussion, one participant said Discover offered broadly similar features to GNOME Software and felt more usable in speed. The same discussion mentioned possible dependency and theming issues. These are user impressions from that discussion, not established behavior across current Fedora releases, desktops, or hardware. Your experience may depend on the desktop environment and the software sources enabled on your system.

dnfdragora: a graphical way to manage DNF packages

dnfdragora is a frontend for the DNF package manager, based on rpmdragora. Choose it when you specifically want to browse or manage RPM packages through a GUI, rather than a storefront centered on end-user applications. Fedora Packages lists builds for Fedora 43, 44, 45, and Rawhide in the listing accessed October 7, 2026; package availability can change, so check the listing for your release before installing it: dnfdragora on Fedora Packages.

A participant in the Fedora Workstation 41 discussion characterized dnfdragora as RPM-only and reported bugs from their own use. That testimony is not a current release-wide compatibility finding. Do not assume it manages Flatpaks or provides an app-store catalog; its documented role is as a DNF frontend.

Warehouse: manage Flatpaks you already have

Warehouse is a toolbox for viewing Flatpak information, managing user data, and batch-managing installed Flatpaks, according to its upstream project. Fedora community discussion also describes it as able to install and remove Flatpaks and manage them individually, while noting that it is not intended as an app store. See the Warehouse project.

Use Warehouse when Flatpak housekeeping is the problem. If you also need to manage RPM packages, plan on a separate DNF-capable tool; Warehouse is not a replacement for that job.

What to check before switching

  • Package type: Decide whether you need RPMs from DNF repositories, desktop-app discovery, installed Flatpak management, or a combination.
  • Desktop integration: Consider how the interface fits your desktop environment and theme. The Fedora Workstation 41 discussion includes a theming concern, but does not establish a universal issue.
  • Fedora release: Check current package availability for your exact release. The dnfdragora listing is a point-in-time catalog, not proof that it is available on every Fedora spin.
  • Catalog expectations: A graphical app store may not expose every package present in DNF repositories; use a DNF-oriented tool when repository package administration is the goal.
  • Updates: For a repository-wide system upgrade from the command line, Fedora’s FAQ gives sudo dnf upgrade as the example. This is separate from choosing a graphical app-discovery tool.

What about COSMIC Store?

The COSMIC project repository describes COSMIC Store as the COSMIC app store. A Fedora community answer from the Workstation 41 discussion called it promising but unfinished at that time. Because that assessment is historical and project maturity changes, it is not enough to recommend it as a stable general replacement without checking its current status. See the COSMIC Store project.
