Three Days of Happiness: The Complete Omnibus is the English one-volume manga adaptation of Sugaru Miaki’s novel, with Shouichi Taguchi credited on the manga edition. Its premise turns an abstract question—what makes a life worth living?—into a concrete countdown: college student Kusunoki sells most of his remaining lifespan and keeps only three months. Readers looking for an illustrated, self-contained version should seek the manga omnibus; the English prose novel is a separate edition.
What is the manga about?
Yen Press’s synopsis introduces Kusunoki as a nearly twenty-year-old college student who once believed he was destined for great things but now lacks motivation, dreams, and money. He discovers he can sell his remaining years and chooses to keep just three months. The manga follows him during that limited time, including his interactions with Miyagi, the monitor assigned to him.
That setup gives the story a clear dramatic engine: Kusunoki has little time to reconsider what happiness means, and his choice makes every remaining day feel consequential. The publisher categorizes the manga as drama, fantasy, and romance. This review stays with the premise rather than revealing later plot turns.

A strong, immediately legible premise
The lifespan sale makes the story’s central question tangible without requiring a complicated setup. Kusunoki’s decision to retain only three months creates an unmistakable limit, while his starting point—a young man who has lost direction—sets up a personal rather than purely fantastical conflict. The premise invites readers to consider how a person might value time when it can no longer be treated as unlimited.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
A relationship placed inside the countdown
Miyagi’s presence connects the speculative arrangement to the people Kusunoki encounters during his remaining time. The monitor relationship is part of the publisher’s manga synopsis, making it a useful spoiler-light point of entry: the story is not only about the price assigned to a life, but also about what happens between people under that condition.
What the premise does—and does not—promise
The official description supports reading the book as a reflective drama with fantasy and romance elements. It does not establish a particular critical consensus or prove that one version is artistically superior to another. The most grounded reason to choose the manga is its illustrated adaptation and complete single-volume format, not an unsupported claim that it improves on the novel.

Which edition should you choose?
- Choose the manga omnibus if you want the illustrated adaptation in one collected volume. Confirm that the listing says The Complete Omnibus and use ISBN 9798855429053 for paperback or 9798855429060 for digital.
- Choose the prose novel if you want Miaki’s source work in prose rather than the comic adaptation. Its identifiers are 9781975314217 for hardback and 9781975314224 for digital.
- Compare based on format, not a claimed winner. The available publisher listings establish the adaptation relationship and edition details, but they do not settle which version readers will prefer artistically.
Verdict: who should read it?
The complete manga omnibus is a clear fit for readers who want a compact, illustrated story built around a stark speculative premise and a limited stretch of time. Its one-volume collection removes the need to track multiple manga installments. If your interest is specifically in the source novel, make sure to select the separate prose edition instead.
