The report says Barraford later stated that the addresses were unfrozen and trading would resume. It places this “hours later” but does not give an exact duration. The reporting does not provide enough technical detail to establish which token transfers or THORChain operations were blocked at each point.

Why were the addresses blacklisted?
No confirmed reason for the alleged action is established in the report. In a September 28, 2026 company statement, Tether said it had frozen approximately $550 million in assets across wallets identified by U.S. authorities as connected to Iran and sanctions networks during 2026. That figure is Tether’s own account of separate actions, not evidence about the four THORChain addresses or the reason they were allegedly blacklisted.

The distinction matters: an issuer-level restriction on a token and a decentralized network’s own trading or vault operations are different things. The incident report describes an alleged issuer blacklist and subsequent resumption of trading, but does not document the mechanics well enough to say precisely which functions were unavailable. It also does not establish that all USDT networks or all THORChain activity were affected.
