The Smartlinx SL-020 is a 21-in-1 Thunderbolt 4 docking station designed to run a monitor, keyboard, mouse, storage, Ethernet, memory cards, audio and laptop charging through one host cable. Smartlinx lists the dock at $149.99 in its catalog, while a matching deal report places it at about $150 on Amazon. Because the manufacturer’s product page also shows $259.99, check the live price before buying.
What the Smartlinx SL-020 includes
The SL-020 consolidates the connections normally spread across a laptop and several adapters. Its advertised 21-port layout includes display outputs, USB ports, a 2.5GbE Ethernet jack, SD and TF card readers, audio connectivity and power delivery. That makes it suitable for a desk where you want one cable for your monitor, keyboard and mouse instead of reconnecting each accessory individually.
Bandwidth for peripherals and storage
The host connection uses Thunderbolt 4, rated by Smartlinx at up to 40Gbps. The dock’s USB 3.2 ports are rated up to 10Gbps. Those are interface ceilings rather than guaranteed transfer rates: actual performance depends on the computer, cable, drive and the other devices sharing the dock.
Networking and card readers
A 2.5GbE Ethernet port provides a wired-network option for compatible routers and switches. Built-in SD and TF readers are useful for cameras, drones and other removable-media workflows, avoiding separate card-reader dongles.

Monitor support: one 8K display or multiple 4K screens
Smartlinx documents support for one 8K display or multiple 4K displays. Its detailed specifications say Windows systems can drive up to 8K at 60Hz plus 4K at 60Hz, while macOS can run dual 4K at 60Hz with an exclusion for Macs using Apple’s M1 chip. Expanded multi-monitor operation uses DisplayLink technology.
Do you need DisplayLink?
You need DisplayLink software when using the dock’s expanded monitor configuration. Install the version appropriate for your operating system, then approve any macOS security or screen-recording permissions it requests. Without the software, the dock may still expose its native Thunderbolt or USB-C display path, but you should not expect the advertised expanded-monitor arrangement.

MacBook and older Intel limitations
A MacBook must have a full-featured Thunderbolt 4 or USB-C host connection for the dock’s functions. The published dual-4K macOS claim excludes M1 Macs, so confirm your exact Apple-chip model before buying. Smartlinx also warns that seventh-generation Intel systems may have limited functionality.
Charging capability and limits
The dock can deliver up to 90W to the host laptop and up to 20W for fast-charging other devices. A laptop that requires more than 90W may charge slowly, intermittently or unstably through the dock. Check your laptop’s supplied charger rating and treat the dock as a 90W maximum source, not a replacement for a higher-wattage adapter.

Compatibility checklist before you buy
- Verify that your laptop’s USB-C port supports Thunderbolt 4 or the full-featured USB-C functions required by the dock; a charge-only or data-limited port will not provide the complete feature set.
- For more than one external monitor, confirm that your operating system supports DisplayLink and that your organization permits its driver.
- On a Mac, check the Apple-chip generation specifically. The documented dual-4K mode excludes M1 Macs.
- Check the laptop’s charger wattage. Systems rated above 90W are outside the dock’s stated charging envelope.
- If you use a seventh-generation Intel computer, expect potentially limited functionality and verify compatibility before ordering.
Price, warranty and what is—and is not—proven
The matching deal report describes the SL-020 as $40 off at about $150 on Amazon. Smartlinx’s catalog lists the 21-port, up-to-five-monitor version at $149.99, while another Smartlinx product page lists $259.99. These conflicting figures may reflect different listings, promotions or configurations; availability and pricing can change, so verify the exact model and seller at checkout.
Smartlinx states that the dock includes a 12-month warranty. The available specifications are vendor claims; no independent hands-on performance test or reliability study was identified. Treat the 40Gbps, display and charging figures as rated capabilities rather than guarantees for every laptop, cable or peripheral combination.

Who should consider it
The SL-020 makes the most sense if you want a single-cable desk connection with fast USB, wired networking, card readers and support for multiple displays. It is less suitable when your laptop needs more than 90W, your Mac is an M1 model and dual 4K output is essential, or your computer lacks a full-featured Thunderbolt 4/USB-C port.
