Lenovo’s specifications establish the memory category and platform limits, but they do not confirm a particular retail module’s compatibility. Does the E14 Gen 8 have a second SSD slot?
Some configurations do. Lenovo lists an M.2 2242 PCIe 4.0 x4 slot and an M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 x4 slot on the cited Panther Lake Intel and AMD models. The Intel PSREF says those applicable systems support dual SSDs, with Lenovo offering one SSD configuration and leaving the second slot for user self-expansion. Lenovo lists up to 1TB per slot in these configurations.

The cited Wildcat Lake Intel model has one M.2 2242 PCIe 4.0 x4 slot, not two. Do not buy a second SSD on the assumption that every E14 Gen 8 has room for one. Match the drive’s length and interface to the slot specified for your machine; the two-slot systems use different lengths, 2242 and 2280.

How to check your model and follow the official upgrade procedure
- Identify the exact machine type and processor platform. Use the machine information on your laptop or its Lenovo support listing, then find that model in Lenovo’s PSREF. Confirm whether it is Panther Lake Intel, Wildcat Lake Intel, or AMD before selecting parts.
- Check the memory and storage entries for that configuration. Confirm SODIMM slot count, stated memory maximum, M.2 slot count, and supported drive lengths. Check the installed components as well as the platform’s listed options.
- Use Lenovo’s model-specific repair resources. Consult the ThinkPad E14 Gen 8 and E16 Gen 4 Hardware Maintenance Manual and Lenovo’s replacement videos for the relevant memory or M.2 SSD procedure.
