Things to Recall is a personal, voice-first reminder app that its creator built for her boyfriend, Jason, who has ADHD and often forgets things. Its central idea is simple: speak a thought, get a reminder on a list, and check it off when it is done. The project write-up describes one person’s needs and the author’s implementation—not a clinical treatment or proof that the app improves ADHD symptoms.

What is Things to Recall?

Things to Recall is a “voice-first, distraction-free reminder app,” in the creator’s words. Its interaction is summed up as: “One button. Talk. Reminders appear. Done.” The goal is to make capturing a thought take less effort than opening a notes app and typing.

CrymsynRavyn says she built it for Jason, her boyfriend of 12 years, who is often on the go and forgets things. In her account, paper and pen are easy for him to lose, and he otherwise asks her to remind him. The app is a personal response to that situation, not a general claim about what people with ADHD need.

How does the app work?

  1. The user records a spoken thought in the browser.
  2. The audio is sent to a Flask backend, where the app transcribes the speech and extracts a reminder.
  3. The reminder appears as an item in a simple list, where it can be checked off.
  4. If the user checks off an item by mistake, the author describes a 10-second undo window.

The undo feature addresses one small but practical failure mode: an accidental tap should not make a reminder disappear permanently. The project write-up does not describe broader task-management features, such as recurring reminders or calendar integration.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

What technology does the project use?

The author reports building the app with HTML, CSS and JavaScript on the frontend, using the browser’s MediaRecorder API to capture audio. A Python Flask backend handles processing. For speech transcription, she uses faster-whisper; for extracting reminders from the transcript, she uses Ollama serving Gemma 3. Reminder data is stored in a local JSON file.

In the author’s description, audio travels from the browser to the Flask backend for transcription and extraction, and both inference and reminder storage are local. She says the models can work offline after they have been downloaded, and that she runs the app on a small server she manages. Those are the builder’s descriptions; the project write-up does not provide an independent security review or deployment test.

What does the project establish about privacy and cost?

The creator says she chose local processing so Jason’s voice and words would not be sent to a third-party AI service. She also says the app incurs no API fees. That explains the design intent and the author’s reported operating model, but it is not a guarantee that every deployment is private or free: hosting, network configuration, device security and model downloads still matter, and the write-up does not audit them.

Local inference may reduce reliance on an external AI API, but it does not by itself prove that audio or reminders are protected from other access. The article does not report a security assessment, encryption details, access controls or retention testing.

Is Things to Recall proven to help with ADHD?

No effectiveness result is established. The project was made for one intended user, and the account does not report a clinical study, measured outcomes, comparative testing or broader user research. It is fair to describe the app as a personal tool designed to make reminders easier to capture; it is not supported to call it a treatment or a clinically proven ADHD aid.

The write-up also does not compare Things to Recall with other reminder apps or establish that voice is better than typing for other people. Anyone assessing a reminder tool for their own needs would need to consider how quickly it captures tasks, where audio and reminders are processed and stored, whether mistakes can be corrected, what devices and hosting it requires, and what it costs in practice.

Who might find the project useful?

The project is most useful as an example of building around a specific friction point: a person has a thought, needs to save it quickly, and may not have paper or typing readily available. Developers can also see how browser audio capture, local speech transcription, language-model extraction and a lightweight list can fit into one small application.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It is not presented as a downloadable commercial product, a recommended replacement for other reminder systems, or a product evaluation. The author says Jason accesses it on a phone, but the write-up does not identify any physical accessory as necessary.
