Yes—one current headphone design is built specifically around that promise. Sonic Lamb combines ordinary air-conduction drivers for mids and treble with a patented Impulse Driver that moves the ear pads by tiny amounts. Those micro-movements are sensed through the skin and cheekbones, allowing low frequencies to be felt as well as heard. The result is a hybrid approach rather than a conventional open-ear headset: your ears still receive clear vocals and high frequencies, while some bass energy is delivered through contact with your head.
What “bass through your skin” actually means
Bass is normally delivered by pressure changes in the air inside the ear canal. A skin-conduction design adds a second path. Sonic Lamb says its Impulse Driver moves the ear pads to create micro-movements that your skin and cheekbones detect. Its product description assigns body conduction to sub-bass and bass, while air conduction handles the mids and highs.
This is related to bone conduction, but the terms are not interchangeable. Conventional bone-conduction headphones place transducers against the cheekbones or jaw. Vibrations travel through bone to the cochlea, bypassing the ear canal. Sonic Lamb’s system uses movement at the ear-pad contact area and describes the sensation as bass felt through skin and bone, alongside normal air-conduction playback.
How the hybrid driver works
Air conduction preserves detail
Speech intelligibility, instruments and high-frequency effects remain audible through conventional speakers. That matters because a purely tactile system would not reproduce the full musical range on its own.

Body conduction adds physical impact
The Impulse Driver is intended to make low frequencies perceptible outside the ear canal. Sonic Lamb provides a bass-intensity control described as a subwoofer-level dial, so the physical sensation can be increased or reduced independently of the normal audio signal.
It is not the same as turning up an equalizer
An equalizer boosts the electrical level of low frequencies, which can make them louder but does not create a separate physical contact sensation. A tactile driver changes how the bass is delivered, although the audible result still depends on the ear-cup seal, source recording and listening environment.

How this compares with ordinary bone-conduction headphones
Bone-conduction models are designed to keep the ear canal open. Shokz describes vibrations passing through the cheekbones to the inner ear, and Suunto places its transducers on the jawbone. This layout lets users hear traffic, announcements and conversations without inserting earbuds or covering the ears.
Open-ear designs involve compromises. Independent testing has found that bone-conduction sound may not match conventional hi-fi headphones, and bass performance can change with the product, fit and surroundings. In a noisy street, low-frequency detail is particularly vulnerable to masking. A tactile system can make bass feel more present, but it does not automatically provide the same tonal balance or isolation as a sealed over-ear headphone.

What you can realistically expect to hear and feel
Tactile bass
Sonic Lamb is the clearest match for the phrase “feel the bass.” Its design explicitly separates bass delivery from the mids and highs and gives the listener control over the intensity. The sensation is contact-dependent: pad placement and pressure determine how effectively movement reaches the skin.
Audible bass and fidelity
Feeling a low-frequency vibration does not guarantee stronger or more accurate audible bass. Open-ear bone-conduction products generally trade some tonal fullness for awareness, while a hybrid headphone can retain a more familiar speaker presentation. Neither approach should be assumed to equal a well-fitted, conventional hi-fi headphone without listening to the specific model.

Awareness and leakage
Because bone-conduction sports headphones leave the ear canal open, they are useful when hearing surrounding sound is a priority. They also provide less isolation than sealed headphones, and some sound or vibration can be audible to people nearby. The amount varies with volume, fit, programme material and the design of the contact surfaces.
Comfort and fit
Open-ear frames avoid an earbud seal, but they apply pressure at the cheekbone or jaw. A hybrid ear-pad design shifts the contact area toward the sides of the head. In either case, comfort is highly individual; glasses, helmet straps, hair and head shape can alter the fit and the strength of the bass sensation.

Which type makes sense for your use?
- Choose a tactile hybrid design if your priority is physically noticeable bass while retaining ordinary air-conduction detail, and you are comfortable with ear-pad contact and a less portable, more specialised format.
- Choose open-ear bone conduction if road awareness, conversation and all-day situational awareness matter more than sealed-headphone fidelity. The OpenRun Pro 2 is a current general-purpose reference, while Suunto Sonic is positioned toward sports use.
- Wait on pre-launch concepts if a product is only collecting sign-ups. StéBuds should be treated as a future option, not as an available alternative with verified battery, durability or sound specifications.
Important limitations before buying
- Do not equate “better bass” with a universal measurement. The phrase may refer to stronger audible low end, a physical vibration, or both. Ask which one the manufacturer is claiming.
- Check the fit in your actual environment. Wind, traffic and crowd noise can overwhelm the audible bass of an open-ear design, while pad pressure affects the tactile output of a hybrid design.
- Separate marketing evidence from performance evidence. Sonic Lamb’s product pages displayed 112 reviews for the black model and 111 for the gray model when crawled; those are page review totals, not independent laboratory results.
- Confirm the exact specification and region. Battery figures are maximum claims, and IP ratings describe resistance under defined test conditions rather than unlimited exposure to water or sweat.
Bottom line for shoppers
Sonic Lamb is the closest direct answer to “headphones that transmit bass through your skin.” Its hybrid architecture uses air conduction for clarity and a contact-based driver for a controllable low-frequency sensation. If your main need is hearing the outside world while exercising, an established open-ear bone-conduction model such as Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 or Suunto Sonic is the more conventional route, with documented battery and IP55 figures. If you want a behind-ear concept that is not yet on sale, StéBuds remains a waitlist product rather than a proven retail choice.
