The Witch’s Bakery is an adventure game about Lunne, a witch who opens a boulangerie in Paris with her creature companion, Orio. Its most memorable idea is that the pastries Lunne bakes can carry her into customers’ troubled hearts, turning each order into a small story about empathy and emotional healing. A Next Fest demo presented the concept as warm, imaginative and unusually affecting, although the final release date, price and complete platform list remain unconfirmed.
A Paris bakery where every order hides a personal problem
Lunne is not simply trying to build a successful shop. After moving to Paris, she starts a new boulangerie with Orio, an unusual companion who helps keep the business running. The bakery gives Lunne a way to meet people across the city, but the customers’ needs go beyond bread and pastries.
Her baking is magical. Once a customer eats one of her creations, Lunne can enter that person’s troubled heart and confront the emotional burden affecting them. The premise makes baking the game’s narrative device: preparing food is how the player reaches people, while the inner-world encounters reveal why they are suffering.
How the emotional bakery mechanic works
Judith Tessier’s haunting
The demo’s clearest example is Judith Tessier, who runs a decoration shop. A spectral presence is tormenting her, but ordinary people cannot see it. Lunne gives Judith a croissant, then enters a maze-like minigame connected to the problem. When the encounter ends, Judith cries and the specter leaves.

This scene shows that the game is not treating magical baking as a combat power or a way to maximize statistics. The pastry opens a path to a character’s feelings, and the puzzle represents helping that person face what has been weighing on them. The reward is an emotional change in the customer rather than a conventional victory screen.
What you actually do in the demo
The preview combines several low-pressure activities instead of making the bakery a demanding time-management simulator.

| Activity | How it works in the demo | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Basic baking | Knead dough and prepare the requested item. | Connects ordinary shop work to Lunne’s magical ability. |
| Order collection | Retrieve the item a customer has asked for. | Creates a simple reason to interact with each visitor. |
| Exploration | Move through Paris and discover people and situations outside the shop. | Expands the game beyond a single bakery screen. |
| Conversation | Talk with customers and learn what is troubling them. | Builds the character-focused narrative. |
| Inner-world puzzles | Complete encounters such as the maze connected to Judith’s problem. | Turns emotional support into interactive play. |
Orio performs much of the routine bakery labor in the demo. That division of work keeps the focus on exploration, conversations and the unusual emotional encounters rather than repetitive production chains. Players expecting a detailed bakery-management game should therefore treat the preview as an adventure with light baking, not as a high-pressure simulator.
A cozy tone with a strong Studio Ghibli influence
PC Gamer’s February 24, 2026 feature describes a visual style steeped in Studio Ghibli inspiration: scenes are wrapped in a warm glow, and Lunne travels with creatures that are both adorable and strange. The influence is visible as an overall mood rather than proof that the game is an official adaptation or collaboration.

That atmosphere supports the game’s emotional premise. Paris, the boulangerie and the fantastical companions create a comforting setting, while the customers’ private problems give the story more weight than a purely decorative cozy game. The demo suggests a gentle rhythm in which curiosity and conversation matter as much as completing an order.
