Verdict: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered is more than a graphics refresh: it brings path tracing to PC alongside changes to combat, skills, animations, and interface, and includes both major expansions. The visual upgrade sounds compelling, but the available launch-period review reports occasional slowdowns in demanding scenes, and there is not enough independent benchmark evidence here to recommend a particular graphics card or claim a universal performance result. Path tracing is a PC feature; console ray-tracing modes are different.
What The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered includes
CD PROJEKT RED released the Remastered edition on September 29, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The publisher says it was developed in close collaboration with Yigsoft and grew out of work on the planned 2027 Songs of the Past expansion. CD PROJEKT RED’s launch announcement outlines the release and upgrade terms.
The update includes enhanced environment, NPC, and monster textures; reworked lighting, rendering, and ray tracing; and, on PC, path tracing. It also revises the skill system, combat, animations, and interface, and adds cross-platform mod support. Both Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are included, even for players who previously owned only the base game.

The publisher describes Remastered as a free upgrade for existing owners on GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. On Nintendo Switch 2, the free upgrade applies to owners of the original Nintendo Switch edition. The game is also sold on Battle.net and Microsoft Store as an Xbox Play Anywhere title. How the path-tracing performance claims should be read
The publisher’s PC requirements distinguish six configurations: Minimum, Recommended, Ultra, RT Minimum, RT Recommended, and Path Tracing. Its Path Tracing configuration uses upscaling and Frame Generation; the RT configurations also use upscaling, while the other configurations are tested at native resolution. The publisher cautions that expected frame rates are based on QA testing and can vary with scene, system, settings, and output resolution, with higher output resolutions significantly affecting performance. See the official updated PC requirements.
That distinction matters: a performance figure produced with upscaling and generated frames is not a native-rendering result. NVIDIA’s September 29, 2026 article reports selected GeForce RTX 50-series performance estimates at particular resolutions and settings. Those are NVIDIA’s vendor figures, not independent benchmarks or a promise of what any player will see. The company says path tracing with the Ultra+ preset automatically enables DLSS Ray Reconstruction on GeForce RTX GPUs. Its account of DLSS features and estimates is available in NVIDIA’s update announcement.
The requirements page presents its detailed hardware table as an image, so the GPU tiers, resolution targets, and frame-rate targets cannot be reliably stated here. That leaves no sound basis for a model-specific graphics-card recommendation. Before comparing systems or published results, check that they match on resolution, graphics preset, ray tracing versus path tracing, upscaling method and mode, Frame Generation, and hardware.

PC requirements and operating-system caveats
- Storage: The updated PC game requires an SSD.
- Windows: Windows 10 is no longer officially supported. The publisher says the game may still run on it, but it no longer develops or tests the game for that operating system and cannot guarantee compatibility or performance.
- Upscaling: Official PC feature notes list NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 with Ray Reconstruction, AMD FSR 4 with Frame Generation and Anti-Lag 2 on Radeon RX 7000 Series and newer cards (FSR 2 on unsupported GPUs), and Intel XeSS 2.0 with Frame Generation and Low Latency. These are feature descriptions, not independent image-quality or frame-pacing tests. See the official feature notes.
What the console versions offer—and what they do not
Console ray-tracing modes are not the PC path-tracing mode. On PS5, the official notes describe multithreaded rendering. On PS5 Pro, they list PSSR, VRR, and uncapped frame rates; Ray Tracing Mode targets 60 FPS, while Performance Mode targets 60 FPS and can reach up to 90 FPS on VRR-capable displays, according to the publisher. These are stated targets and capabilities, not a guarantee that every scene will hold a fixed frame rate.
The Nintendo Switch 2 version adds handheld, controller, motion-control, and mouse-sensor playstyles, along with gyro aiming, touch input, Joy-Con 2 HD Rumble, handheld VRR, and HDR, according to the official feature notes. These platform-specific additions are separate from PC path tracing.

GamesRadar+’s September 29, 2026 PC review praises the visual improvements to environments and lighting, the revised skill system, and usability changes. It also reports occasional slowdowns in busy scenes and combat encounters. That is the reviewer’s launch-period experience, not a benchmark or a statement about every PC configuration. The review was conducted on PC with a code provided by the publisher; hotfixes followed shortly after launch. Read the GamesRadar+ review for its attributed impressions.

There is no independent comparative benchmark evidence here to establish how different GPUs perform against one another, whether a particular card offers the best value, or how path tracing compares with other settings at matched image quality and frame rates. Treat vendor estimates and an individual launch review as different kinds of evidence.
Should you play the Remastered edition?
For existing owners, the edition’s broad gameplay and usability changes, visual overhaul, and inclusion of both expansions make it a substantial update rather than a path-tracing-only release. For prospective PC players, the central caveat is that the publisher’s path-tracing configuration assumes both upscaling and Frame Generation, while independent matched-condition GPU results are not established here. Console players should judge the available modes on their own platform rather than treating them as equivalents to PC path tracing.
The project’s scope and visual comparisons are also described in CD PROJEKT RED’s studio account.
