Short answer: there is no verified, universal “best” graphics preset for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered on Nintendo Switch 2 yet. CD PROJEKT RED confirms that the native Switch 2 release improves performance and visual fidelity, but its public materials do not publish tested resolution, frame-rate, sharpness, DLSS, or handheld/docked values. Use the current in-game options, choose settings according to whether you value image clarity or steadier performance, and record the exact game build you are using.
This guide is about the native Nintendo Switch 2 Remastered release, not the original Nintendo Switch edition running through compatibility. Existing owners of the original Switch game are eligible for the Remastered Switch 2 upgrade at no extra cost. Because CD PROJEKT RED said on October 8, 2026 that a Switch 2-specific update was still in development, recommendations should be treated as version-dependent.
The version difference that determines every setting
Nintendo Switch 2 can run many Nintendo Switch games, but Nintendo warns that compatibility is not identical for every title. Nintendo’s compatibility guidance is therefore not a substitute for checking which Witcher 3 release you installed.

If your software is the original Switch edition, do not apply assumptions about the native Remastered build to it. The two experiences can differ in rendering, performance behavior, menus, patches and supported input features.
What is actually established about Switch 2 settings
The official Switch 2 announcement says the Remastered version “takes advantage of the hardware capabilities of Nintendo Switch 2 to improve both performance and visual fidelity.” The publisher also describes improved environmental, non-player-character and monster textures, enhanced foliage, reworked lighting and rendering, and performance improvements. Those are broad feature statements, not a tested settings recipe. Read the platform announcement at CD PROJEKT RED’s Press Center.
The public material does not establish a Switch 2-specific numeric frame rate, output resolution, dynamic-resolution range, frame-rate cap, DLSS mode, texture preset, or sharpness-slider value. It also does not publish separate recommended values for handheld and docked play. Do not import figures quoted for PC, PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S and present them as Switch 2 specifications.
| Reader goal | What you can responsibly do now | What is not verified publicly |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum image clarity | Install the latest Switch 2 build, use the clearest output path your display supports, and select the higher-quality option if your current game menu exposes one. | A specific resolution, sharpening value or quality preset. |
| Steadier performance | Install the latest build and choose a performance-focused option if your menu exposes one; test demanding areas rather than relying on a label alone. | A measured frame-rate target or guaranteed cap. |
| Handheld play | Judge fine detail at normal handheld distance and use the setting that keeps text and foliage legible without distracting fluctuation. | A publisher-tested handheld preset. |
| Docked play | Use the television’s low-latency game mode and compare the game’s image at your normal viewing distance. | A Switch 2 docked resolution or TV-specific recommendation. |
Check the build before changing anything
Switch 2 image quality is a moving target. In its October 8, 2026 Patch 5.01 announcement, CD PROJEKT RED said the update was live for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S while the Switch 2 update was still in development. The studio specifically said the forthcoming Switch 2 work would improve “image clarity and sharpness.” See the announcement at the official Patch 5.01 notice.

- From the Switch 2 HOME menu, highlight the Witcher 3 software and open its software-options screen.
- Check for an available update and let it finish before judging image quality or performance.
- Launch the game and note the version number shown on its title screen, pause screen or software information panel, whichever your build provides.
- Write down whether you are using the native Remastered release or the original Switch software.
- When reporting a problem or comparing settings, include that version number, whether you are handheld or docked, and whether the console is outputting to a television.
CD PROJEKT RED’s Switch technical support index links to Remastered FAQs, performance help and microSD guidance, but the index itself does not define a Switch 2 graphics preset. It is available at the publisher’s technical-support page.
A practical settings method that does not pretend to have missing benchmarks
Because no official value set is published, the most reliable approach is controlled comparison on your own build. Change one variable at a time and use the same scene, display and camera distance for every comparison.
- Open the game’s Settings or Options menu and look for Display, Graphics, Video or Performance entries. Menu names can change between builds, so follow the labels shown by your software.
- Take a baseline screenshot or note how readable the HUD, foliage, hair and distant architecture look. Also note whether camera movement feels consistent.
- If the menu offers a Quality, Resolution or Performance choice, test each available choice for several minutes in the same demanding location. Do not assume the label guarantees a particular frame rate.
- If a sharpness or image-clarity control exists, move it in small increments. Excessive sharpening can create bright outlines and shimmering; insufficient sharpening can make fine foliage and text look soft.
- Apply the setting, return to gameplay and rotate the camera slowly through dense vegetation, a busy settlement and an open landscape. These reveal different compromises.
- Keep the option that best matches your priority. Record the value and build number so you can restore it after a patch.
This procedure produces a personal preference, not a universal benchmark. A later Switch 2 patch can alter both image quality and performance, so recheck the comparison after substantial updates.

Best graphics approach for handheld play
Handheld play changes the decision because the screen is smaller and closer to your eyes than a television. Fine detail can look cleaner even when the underlying output is similar, while unstable motion is often more noticeable during camera pans.

For readers who prioritize clarity
- Choose the higher-quality or resolution-oriented option only if your current build exposes one and camera movement remains comfortable.
- Check small text, map labels, Geralt’s hair, distant roof lines and foliage edges. These are better clarity checks than a static sky.
- Set handheld brightness so dark interiors retain detail without washing out the image. Judge this in both a night scene and a bright outdoor scene.
- Keep the console screen clean and view it at your normal playing distance; fingerprints and glare can be mistaken for softness.
For readers who prioritize steadier motion
- Use a performance-oriented choice when available, then test horseback travel, combat with several enemies and a crowded settlement.
- Prefer the option that keeps camera movement consistent over one that looks sharper in a still frame.
- If a sharpness control exaggerates shimmering during foliage movement, reduce it rather than compensating with display brightness.
There is no published Switch 2 handheld preset to copy. The correct choice depends on which options your installed build actually exposes and how the screen looks to you during movement.
Best graphics approach for docked play
Docked play puts image scaling and television processing into the chain. A setting that looks excellent on the built-in display may appear soft, oversharpened or delayed on a large screen.
Television checks
- Enable the television’s low-latency or game mode. This reduces display processing that can add delay.
- Disable overscan or use a screen-fit, just-scan or equivalent option so the entire Switch 2 image is shown without cropping.
- Start with the television’s neutral sharpness position. Add only a small amount if the image remains visibly soft; excessive TV sharpening can create halos around text and foliage.
- Turn off motion interpolation and other cinema-processing features for this game. They can change the appearance of camera movement and add latency.
- Compare the game at your normal seating distance, not with your face close to the panel.
Choosing between image and performance
If the game exposes quality and performance choices, use a repeatable test: walk through a dense settlement, ride through vegetation, fight several enemies and turn the camera quickly. Keep the performance-focused option when motion consistency matters more than extra detail; keep the quality-focused option when fine textures remain clear and movement is comfortable. The official sources do not establish which option reaches a particular frame rate or resolution on Switch 2.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
- Update first. CD PROJEKT RED explicitly identified image clarity and sharpness as Switch 2-specific work in progress on October 8, 2026. A later update may change the result.
- Confirm native software. The original Switch edition and the native Remastered release are different experiences; make sure you are evaluating the intended one.
- Check output framing. Remove overscan and avoid a television zoom mode that rescales the image.
- Use a restrained sharpness value. If the game offers sharpening, increase it gradually and stop when halos or shimmering appear.
- Compare moving detail. A still screenshot can look crisp while foliage shimmers during movement. Pick the setting that stays readable during play.
- Recheck after every major patch. Rendering changes can make an old personal setting less suitable.
Do not claim that a particular slider position is “optimal” unless you have measured it on the exact build, display and mode being discussed.
Performance troubleshooting
The game looks soft after an update
- Confirm the console completed the download and restarted the game.
- Check the installed version number and whether you are running the native Remastered software.
- Reset game and television image-processing changes to a neutral baseline, then compare again.
- If softness remains, document the build, handheld or docked mode, display model, and the scene where it occurs before contacting support.
Camera movement feels uneven
- Test a performance-focused option if the menu provides one.
- Compare the same route in a settlement, wilderness and combat; a single quiet scene can hide fluctuations.
- In docked mode, verify that television motion interpolation is disabled and game mode is enabled.
- Do not infer a numeric frame rate without a measurement; the official Switch 2 material supplies no benchmark.
The game appears cropped or blurry on a television
- Disable overscan or zoom on the television.
- Use the display’s native screen-fit mode.
- Remove aggressive television sharpening and compare the game’s own image controls separately.
- Try another HDMI input or cable only if other symptoms indicate a signal problem; an accessory is not required for the game’s graphics settings.
An update seems unavailable
Availability can depend on the software region, account and rollout state. Check the Switch 2 software-options screen again, restart the console, and consult the current CD PROJEKT RED support page. Because the Switch 2 Patch 5.01 work was described as forthcoming on October 8, 2026, do not assume that the PC, PlayStation or Xbox patch state applies to Switch 2.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Switch 2 controls that affect the play experience
Controls are separate from graphics settings but may influence which mode feels best. CD PROJEKT RED describes Switch 2 support for motion controls when casting signs, firing the crossbow, throwing bombs, drinking potions and controlling Roach’s speed. The release also supports gyro aiming, mouse controls and touchscreen interaction for maps, menus and Gwent. These features are part of the supported platform experience; no additional controller or accessory is established as necessary for graphics or performance.
Does The Witcher 3 get a Switch 2 upgrade?
Yes. Owners of the original Nintendo Switch version are eligible for the native Switch 2 Remastered upgrade at no extra cost, according to CD PROJEKT RED. The upgrade includes the base game and both expansions. Readers who do not already own the Switch edition should verify the current product listing and edition before buying; the cited announcement confirms the upgrade route but does not establish present retailer inventory, pricing or a particular physical SKU.

What to record when asking for help
A useful support report is more specific than “the graphics look bad.” Include:
- Native Switch 2 Remastered or original Switch software.
- Game version and Switch 2 system version.
- Handheld or docked mode.
- Television model and whether game mode, overscan correction or motion processing is enabled.
- The exact in-game options and values selected.
- The location, activity and camera movement that reveal the problem.
- Whether the issue began after an update.
This information lets support distinguish a rendering preference from a patch regression, display scaling issue or compatibility problem.
Bottom line for 2026
The native Switch 2 Remastered release is the version to use when you want the hardware-specific visual and performance improvements, and existing owners of the original Switch edition can upgrade without buying the game again. However, the official information available through October 16, 2026 does not support a single “best” numerical preset. Install the latest Switch 2 build, verify which release you own, compare the options your menu actually provides in representative scenes, and choose clarity or steadier motion according to your display and playing style. Revisit the choice after the Switch 2 image-clarity update ships.
