Chandler Riggs, known for playing Carl Grimes on The Walking Dead, has made a roughly 20-minute fan film based on Resident Evil 7 biohazard. A report published October 12, 2026 says the project is titled BIOHAZARD and recreates the game’s garage fight between Ethan Winters and Jack Baker. The report lists an online release date of October 14, 2026, so that date and the runtime should be treated as reported pre-release details until the finished film is available.
What Chandler Riggs’ Resident Evil 7 fan film adapts
This is not a full movie version of Resident Evil 7. It is a short, fan-made adaptation of one sequence: Ethan Winters’ confrontation with Jack Baker in the Baker family garage. The project is therefore closer to a filmed scene recreation than a complete retelling of the game’s story.
The details come from an interview attributed to IGN and republished on October 12, 2026. The report says Riggs plays Ethan, while Jason Douglas plays Jack. Mary Rachel Quinn, Eugenie Bonderant, Johnathan O’Niel and Sam Coyles are also named in the cast. Because the finished cut was not available when those details were reported, the film’s final editing, effects and exact runtime remain unconfirmed.

The interview report scheduled the film to go online on October 14, 2026. As of October 13, that release was still in the future. The materials available for this report do not identify an official project page, hosting service or confirmed release link, so readers should verify the filmmaker’s own announcement or the published video after that date rather than assuming every upload is official.

Why Riggs made it
Riggs told the interviewer that the project grew from his desire to see a faithful, live-action version of Resident Evil. He said production was already in pre-production when news broke that filmmaker Zach Cregger was developing a new Resident Evil movie, prompting him to get his own project finished first. Riggs also said he is eager to see Cregger’s film and would be interested in continuing in the universe if invited.
He described making the film as a practical way to keep working with other creatives: if he could not get onto more film or television sets, he could create a set himself. Those comments describe his motivation, not an official connection between the fan film and any future studio production.

The major change from the game
Resident Evil 7 is presented primarily from Ethan’s first-person viewpoint, keeping the player inside his experience and generally withholding a conventional hero close-up. Riggs considered shooting the fan film entirely in first person or keeping Ethan’s face out of frame, but decided to show Ethan throughout.

He said the change was necessary to communicate the story to viewers who had not played the game. Riggs characterized the visible face as a significant departure while saying the production was intended to remain faithful in other respects. That is the creator’s stated approach; it is not an independent assessment of the unreleased film.

What the original game is
Capcom announced RESIDENT EVIL 7 biohazard on June 14, 2016, describing it as a survival-horror game built around fear, exploration and a tense atmosphere. That announcement listed PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC as launch platforms, with regional release dates of January 24, 2017, in North America and Europe and January 26, 2017, in Japan. Those are the platforms and dates in the original announcement, not a complete statement of every version available today.
Capcom’s announcement also said the Resident Evil series had reached 68 million cumulative units since the first game debuted in 1996. That is a franchise-wide figure published in 2016, not sales attributed specifically to Resident Evil 7.

Who Chandler Riggs is
Riggs is best known for playing Carl Grimes on AMC’s The Walking Dead. His AMC cast biography identifies him in that role. The Resident Evil project places him in front of the camera as Ethan and behind it as the person who initiated the fan production.
