The two companies described as “software stocks to buy” more than 35% below their record highs cannot be identified from the available source material. No company names, ticker symbols, peak prices, current prices, publication date, or calculation method were verified, so labeling any particular shares as the two picks would be speculation.
What is—and is not—established
The headline asserts that two software stocks have fallen more than 35% from their records and are buys. The supporting search results do not identify those stocks or verify the drawdowns. They also do not establish the relevant market, currency, exchange, share class, record-high date, closing-price source, or whether the comparison uses an intraday peak.
That missing information matters. A stock can be 35% below an all-time high because expectations became excessive, because growth slowed, because the entire sector repriced, or because the operating business deteriorated. The percentage alone cannot distinguish those cases.

A drawdown is a market measurement, not a valuation conclusion. Before treating a decline as an opportunity, an investor needs to establish:
#1 Best Overall
- the exact record high and the date and price series used;
- the current price and the date of that measurement;
- revenue growth, recurring revenue trends and customer retention;
- profitability, free-cash-flow generation and the path to sustainable margins;
- cash, debt, maturities and any need to issue shares;
- the valuation implied by the current price and the assumptions required to justify it; and
- company-specific exposure to artificial-intelligence competition, substitution and pricing pressure.
Without those checks, “down more than 35%” can encourage investors to anchor on an old price rather than assess what the business may be worth now.
What the available AI-and-software evidence says
Forager Funds describes a broad software sell-off driven by concern that artificial intelligence could let customers create alternatives to established products. Forager’s stated view is that AI may also help incumbent providers improve their products and lower development and support costs, especially when those providers possess valuable data and deeply embedded systems. - It can be a gift option
That is an attributed fund-management opinion, not proof that either unnamed stock has those characteristics. AI could make some software products more useful while making other products easier to replace. The relevant question is whether a company’s data, workflows, integrations and customer reliance create durable switching costs, and whether its pricing can withstand cheaper AI-enabled alternatives.
Forager also states that its internal fund views are not recommendations to buy, sell or hold a security. Investors should therefore treat the commentary as context, not as a personalized investment recommendation.
How to verify the two supposed picks
- Locate the original article. Record its publication date, author, market and the exact names or ticker symbols.
- Recalculate each drawdown. Use a consistent, split-adjusted price series and write down whether the “record” is an intraday or closing high. Apply the formula:
(record high − current price) ÷ record high × 100. - Match the dates. A drawdown measured today may differ from one stated when the article was published. Preserve the original measurement date and update it separately.
- Read primary filings. Check the latest annual and quarterly reports for revenue, bookings or remaining performance obligations, customer concentration, retention, cash flow, debt and share-based compensation.
- Test the valuation. Compare enterprise value with realistic revenue or cash-flow outcomes rather than assuming a return to the former high.
- Assess AI substitution risk. Identify which product functions could be replicated, whether the company owns differentiated data, how deeply its software is integrated, and whether management has disclosed usage, pricing or churn effects.
Comparison framework for the eventual analysis
| Question | Evidence to collect | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| How large is the fall? | Peak and current split-adjusted prices, dates and source | Prevents an uncheckable or stale percentage from driving the thesis |
| Is the business growing? | Reported revenue, recurring-revenue growth and guidance | Separates a market repricing from weakening demand |
| Are customers staying? | Retention, churn, renewal and customer-concentration disclosures | Shows whether AI alternatives or pricing changes are affecting users |
| Does the company fund itself? | Operating cash flow, free cash flow, cash balance and debt maturities | Highlights dilution, refinancing and balance-sheet risk |
| What does the price assume? | Enterprise value and scenario-based earnings or cash-flow estimates | A lower share price is not automatically a low valuation |
Why the examples in the commentary cannot fill the gap
Forager’s page discusses companies including Catapult (ASX:CAT), Bravura (ASX:BVS) and Sage Group (LON:SGE), along with portfolio weights and share-price movements for stated periods. Those are examples from Forager’s own portfolio commentary; the available material does not establish any of them as the two stocks in the headline. Their figures therefore cannot be reassigned to the unidentified picks.

Do not buy a stock solely because a headline says it is more than 35% below a record. First obtain the original names and dates, reproduce the price calculation, then evaluate operating performance, balance-sheet strength, valuation and AI-specific threats from current company disclosures. Until that information is identified and verified, there is no evidence-based way to name the two stocks or call either one a buy.
