To expand your inventory in The Sinking City 2, find an Inventory upgrade inside an E.R.C. crate or on a table in some dungeons. You need an E.R.C. activator pen to open a crate; pens are found elsewhere on the level and are consumed when used. The locations below are walkthrough-reported finds, so expect spoilers.
How inventory upgrades and E.R.C. crates work
Team Frogwares’ Steam FAQ identifies two ways to find an Inventory upgrade: inside an E.R.C. crate or lying on a table in some dungeons. For a crate, locate an E.R.C. activator pen on the level and use it to open the container. The pen is consumed, and some crates can appear before you have collected the pen needed to open them, according to an E.R.C. crate checklist.

Reported inventory upgrade locations
The following locations are identified by a third-party checklist, not official developer documentation. It does not provide exhaustive room-by-room directions for every pickup.
Church graveyard crypt
The checklist lists a star-marked crypt in the church graveyard as an E.R.C. crate reward: an Inventory upgrade worth two additional slots. Look for the nearby activator pen before spending time trying to open the crate.

Printing House route
A further upgrade is listed in a flooded lower area along the Printing House route. The checklist does not establish a detailed coordinate in the available location notes.

How many upgrades are listed?
The interactive inventory guide, last updated September 6, 2026, lists 13 known Inventory Expansion locations across 10 maps. That is the guide’s count of known locations, not a developer-confirmed maximum. The available sources do not establish the game’s total possible slot count or the capacity gained from every upgrade.

Frogwares’ Update 1.1.0 notes say that inventory slot upgrades carry over into Ex Oblivione. If you find an inventory upgrade you already own, you receive Dream Essence instead. These behaviors are stated for Update 1.1.0; the notes do not establish that they apply to earlier versions.
