Part One of The Sinking City 2 starts in Calvin’s apartment and concludes after you rescue the woman at the Devil’s Reef Hotel. This spoiler-forward guide covers the documented opening route through the Miskatonic Library Annex and church, including the safe and floodgate codes, fuse puzzle, useful pickups, and optional church activity. The available walkthrough details do not establish the whale, fuel, gasoline, or hotel-rescue steps, so those later parts are not guessed here.
Before leaving Calvin’s apartment
Search the apartment for four story notes: “Excerpt From The Dream Realm,” “About The Mask,” “Final Warning!” and “Restricted Section Inventory.” Notes can appear in Investigations. Connect related evidence as you find it; exploration and optional investigations can yield upgrade points, supplies, and safer routes. When ready, leave by the fire escape and take a boat to the closed gate.

Dock at the jetty, enter the building, and locate the first Safe Room. Safe Rooms let you save and store items, and provide access to abilities. Check the nearby shop for a note pointing you toward fuses in another shop.

Open the Apartment 5 safe
Apartment 5 has a safe with the combination 1908. The nearby Allen Radio Store sign gives the year; you can use it before finding the note that confirms the combination later in the route.
Find and fit the fuses
- Search the indicated shop for the fuses, then return to the gate’s fuse box.
- Connect the blue wires with the straight fuse.
- Connect the yellow and green wires with the T-shaped fuse.
- Connect the red and orange wires with the right-angle fuse.
- Validate the arrangement, then pull the lever to open the gate.
Continue by boat, docking where the route prompts you. When a chase forces you through a building, follow the passage through it; a cutscene at the next building leads into the Annex section.

Search the Miskatonic Library Annex
Inspect rooms for notes and supplies as you make your way to the Restricted Section, where you can take the glowing red ritual book. The Annex also has a locked ERC crate. Near a Safe Room, collect the ERC User Manual and Activator Pen, then return to open the crate. It contains a Voss Compensator, which the walkthrough describes as slowing enemies hit by fully focused shots.
Explore the church before moving on
After meeting Corentin, continue toward the church as you pursue the floodgate objective. Search the church for supplies and notes. Night Ore can recharge the Nightshade mask for one revive, according to the walkthrough. The church also contains a Safe Room and a Talent Table, where you can spend Dream Essence on talents.

Enter the church floodgate code
Use 1672 at the church floodgate. The clue is the church’s history: it was founded in 1667, and its bell was made and installed five years later. The code is the bell’s year.
Find the Star Key and Trident
- Explore the church and retrieve the Star Key.
- Use the key on the Star Door above the ladder.
- Take the Trident inside.

Return the charged Trident to its stand to continue the optional sequence. The walkthrough describes another dimension, an altar dagger, and a short boss encounter. Connect the church notes in Investigations as well; the guide associates doing so with an upgrade point.
Combat and exploration choices
- Conserve ammunition. Frogwares says ammunition is scarce and monsters are tough. The walkthrough also notes that enemies can sometimes be avoided and generally do not reward you for defeating them.
- Use exploration for practical gains. Look for notes, supplies, ERC crates, shortcuts, and opportunities to connect evidence. Optional investigations can provide rewards without being required to advance the main route.
- Use Safe Rooms deliberately. Save, store items, and spend Dream Essence at the church Talent Table when you have it.

Where the documented route stops
The full Part One route continues with the objectives “Move the Whale, and get the fuel and the gasoline” and “Save the woman at the Devil’s Reef Hotel.” The available step-by-step details establish that these objectives follow the Annex and church sections, but do not establish the actions, item locations, or solutions needed to complete them. Part One ends after the hotel rescue.
