The Sinking City 2 has 22 listed talents, each aimed at a particular combat habit: staying alive, managing ammunition, swapping or reloading weapons, landing weak-point shots, or fighting up close. You can equip only a limited selection, so choose talents whose triggers match what you actually do in combat—not simply the ones with the most dramatic descriptions.

How talents work

Frogwares describes talents as part of a combat toolkit that can work alongside weapons and enemy weak points. Optional exploration can also reward a talent. The developer’s advice is straightforward: “Ammo is scarce and monsters are tough, so explore your options and find what works best.” — Frogwares, Xbox Wire, August 18, 2026

Guides describe a Talent Table in safe rooms where Calvin spends Dream Essence to buy or swap talents. They report that he can equip three regular talents and one special talent. The described unlock path is to buy four Basic talents to open Intermediate, then four Intermediate talents to open Advanced; Eldritch Rewards are tied to specified game goals. These progression details come from guides rather than the developer’s concise overview.

The talent descriptions below are qualitative. The reviewed reference does not provide exact damage, protection, or healing percentages, so terms such as “slightly” and “greatly” should be read as relative descriptions, not precise values.

All 22 talents and their effects

Ammo, healing, and survivability

Talent Effect Good fit when…
Alchemical Abundance Increases ammunition gained when crafting. Crafted ammunition is an important part of your supply.
Carapace of the Damned Slightly reduces damage from humanoid enemies. Humanoids account for much of the harm you take.
Chitinbound Slightly reduces harm from monsters and aberrations. Creature attacks are wearing down your health.
Deathless Vigor Lets Calvin withstand more punishment. You want broad survivability rather than a narrow combat trigger.
Unhallowed Salve Improves recovery from healing items. Making each healing item more effective matters more than another conditional attack bonus.
Potent Tincture Reduces harm for each healing item carried, up to five items. You tend to keep healing supplies in reserve.
Pact of the Reaper Heals on a kill, but makes incoming wounds more damaging. You can secure kills quickly and accept the added risk.

Weapon handling and attack timing

Talent Effect Good fit when…
Gunslinger’s Trance Slightly speeds up weapon swapping. You switch between guns instead of staying on one weapon and reloading.
Instruments of Death Slightly increases damage for a few seconds after a weapon swap. You can attack during the short window after changing weapons.
Profane Reload Speeds up reloading. Reload downtime leaves you exposed.
Opening Gambit Makes the first bullet hit harder. You can begin encounters with a deliberate opening shot.
Reticle Ritual Increases damage when fully focused and lowers it when unfocused. You can wait for full focus rather than rushing shots.
Wandering Bullet Increases weak-point damage with unfocused shots. You prefer quick weak-point shots over waiting for full focus.
Ruptured Core Destroying weak spots triggers a large damage burst. You can recognize and reliably hit weak spots.

Melee, close-range, and risk-for-damage talents

Talent Effect Good fit when…
Butcher’s Zeal Gives a large melee-damage bonus for a short time after a kill. You can reach another enemy and use melee during the bonus.
Feral Surge Slightly increases damage against creatures at close range. Fights regularly bring enemies close to you.
Inner Beast Increases melee damage when the magazine is empty. An empty magazine is your cue to melee instead of reload.
Crimson Threshold Increases damage while you are at low health. You are willing to keep attacking while hurt.
Vessel of Destruction Greatly increases damage while also greatly increasing incoming damage. You can manage the downside through positioning and evasion.

Light, dodging, and last chances

Talent Effect Good fit when…
Silent Hunter Slightly increases damage while the flashlight is off. You can aim and track threats without constant illumination. The guide cautions that this does not make Calvin undetectable.
Strange Evasion Reduces harm for a few seconds after dodging. You dodge deliberately as part of your defense.
Vengeful Spirit After a lethal hit, gives you a brief chance to kill the attacker and escape death. You can identify and eliminate the attacker immediately.

How to choose talents for your playstyle

Start with the problem you want to solve, then choose a talent whose condition you reliably meet. The strongest description is not necessarily the best fit if its trigger rarely happens in your fights.

  • Taking too much damage or using healing often: consider Deathless Vigor for general toughness or Unhallowed Salve to improve healing-item recovery. Potent Tincture is more relevant if you routinely carry a reserve of supplies.
  • Running short on ammunition: Alchemical Abundance supports a crafting-based supply. It helps only if crafting is part of how you replenish ammo.
  • Getting caught during reloads: Profane Reload addresses reload time. If you more often switch guns, Gunslinger’s Trance supports that habit, while Instruments of Death adds a short damage opportunity after the swap.
  • Targeting weak points: Reticle Ritual favors fully focused shots; Wandering Bullet favors unfocused weak-point shots. Ruptured Core rewards destroying weak spots with a damage burst.
  • Fighting at close range or using melee: Feral Surge helps against creatures at close range. Butcher’s Zeal and Inner Beast depend on specific kill or empty-magazine situations that lead into melee.
  • Trading safety for offense: Crimson Threshold rewards attacking at low health, while Vessel of Destruction increases both damage dealt and damage received. Pact of the Reaper also pairs healing on a kill with greater incoming harm.
  • Fighting with the flashlight off: Silent Hunter offers a small damage increase in that condition, but does not make you undetectable.

Because the equipped slots are limited, treat a selection as a response to your current combat problem rather than a permanent checklist. The guides describe swapping talents at a Talent Table, so reassess there when your needs or habits change.
