The Sims 4 Gallery can fail because EA’s services are having a problem, or because of an issue with your game, account, network, or security settings. Check the EA server-status page first; its status is live and must be checked when the problem occurs. If services look normal, identify whether the Gallery tab is missing or whether it opens but cannot connect, find content, upload, or download.
1. Check whether EA or the platform has an outage
Before changing game files or network settings, check EA’s server-status page for The Sims 4 and the service you use to play, such as Xbox, PlayStation, or Steam. EA directs players to this page for real-time service status when an EA game or platform connection fails.
If a relevant service is reporting a problem, wait for it to recover; changing local settings cannot repair an outage. A normal status is useful but does not prove that every Gallery feature is working. If the issue continues across devices or networks, check current EA announcements or contact EA Help.

2. Pinpoint what is failing
The next checks depend on what you see. An absent Gallery icon has different likely causes from a Gallery that opens but will not load.

- Gallery tab or icon is missing: Check the game edition and version, account restrictions, and the online social features setting. An EA-hosted Gallery troubleshooting thread lists the Legacy Edition, child account status, and disabled online social features as possible reasons. The thread is community guidance, not a guarantee that these explain every current platform or account setup.
- Gallery opens but says it is offline or keeps loading: Continue with the connectivity and security checks below.
- Search results or creations are missing: Check Gallery filters. The EA Forums thread notes that creations containing custom content may require the “Include Custom Content” option to be selected. Allow time for newly uploaded content to appear.
- Thumbnails show a red X: The same thread identifies antivirus access to the user folder as one possible cause. Check your security software’s guidance rather than disabling protection indiscriminately.
3. Check the game, account, and online settings
On PC or Mac
Confirm that your game is up to date and that online social features are enabled in the game’s options. If the Gallery is absent and the account is a child account, parental restrictions may limit online features. The EA-hosted thread identifies these as possible causes; it does not establish identical parental-control behavior for every platform.
On console
Verify that the console account is linked to an EA account and that the game is updated. In an announcement dated May 30, 2023, EA said console players needed to link an EA account to access the Gallery and that older clients could no longer connect after that update. That is dated guidance, not confirmation of current setup steps: check EA’s current instructions for your console and account.

4. Test the network and security settings
- Check other online services. Confirm that the device can access other online features. This helps distinguish a broader connection problem from a Sims-specific one.
- Try another trusted network, if practical. A phone hotspot can serve as a temporary diagnostic test. The EA Forums thread suggests testing a different network. If the Gallery works there, investigate restrictions or filtering on your usual network; that result alone does not identify the cause.
- Review firewall and antivirus permissions. Check that the EA app or launcher and The Sims 4 are allowed through your security software. Change only the relevant allow-list setting, follow the product’s instructions, and restore your usual protection after testing.
- Check network-device conflicts one at a time. If you use several connection methods or devices, EA Staff account SimQARobo advised: “If you have multiple network devices – LAN, wireless, Bluetooth, VPN, etc – try disabling them one-by-one to see if one of them is bad.” Avoid changing several settings at once so you can tell whether a test affects the result.
5. Test for mod or local game-file conflicts
If EA and platform services appear available and network checks do not explain the failure, test the game without mods. Back up important saves before moving or resetting game folders. EA’s The Sims 4 support hub links to resources for mods and updates, and for backing up and resetting the game.
The EA Forums thread suggests temporarily moving the Sims 4 user folder to the desktop as a diagnostic test. Keep the original folder intact, including saves, and treat the change as temporary. Do not delete your only copy of a folder or save while troubleshooting.

Cache clearing is also a local troubleshooting measure, not a way to restore a service that is down. EA Help states that clearing the cache “can’t fix problems like game outages or servers going down,” though it can help with some common issues. See EA’s cache-clearing instructions for the relevant EA app or device steps; this is not a guaranteed Gallery-specific fix.

- Whether another trusted network changes the result
- Whether the failure affects the Gallery tab, browsing or search, downloading, or uploading
EA’s Sims 4 support hub also links to connection, console, and game troubleshooting resources. EA’s FAQ notes that an internet connection is required for online features, but that does not mean connectivity is necessarily the cause of every Gallery problem.
