The Shapeshifting Detective has no verified cheat codes in the available official material; its strongest investigative advantage is using other characters’ identities to reach conversations you cannot access as yourself. Expect the murderer to vary between playthroughs, and treat specific dialogue sequences or ending requirements as unconfirmed unless you are following a tested walkthrough.
What kind of game is The Shapeshifting Detective?
The Shapeshifting Detective is a supernatural murder-mystery full-motion video (FMV) game developed by D’Avekki Studios and Wales Interactive, released on November 6, 2018. You investigate the death of Dorota Shaw, with three tarot readers among the suspects. Wales Interactive describes the game as an investigation in which you can take other characters’ forms to unlock secret conversations and private encounters. Wales Interactive’s game page advertises nine characters you can become and more than 1,600 full-HD video responses; that response count is the publisher’s figure, not an independent tally.
Rather than relying on conventional cheat codes, the game’s central tools are identity-switching, questioning and decisions about what to reveal or delete. Those mechanics can change what you learn and how other characters respond.
How to use shapeshifting to investigate
Try a different identity when a conversation stalls
Characters respond to who is questioning them. A new identity can make different conversations or private encounters available, so revisit people who were unhelpful when you approached as yourself. Wales Interactive specifically suggests trying the Police Chief’s form if you cannot obtain a vital clue as yourself. Treat that as an official tip, not a guarantee that every stalled investigation has the same solution.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Use each form to explore access, not just dialogue
Think of shapeshifting as an investigative option: it may change whom you can approach or what they are willing to discuss. If a lead seems blocked, test another identity before assuming you have exhausted it. The publisher confirms that forms can unlock secret conversations and private encounters, but does not publish exact character-by-character triggers on its game page.
How the delete mechanic affects questioning
The publisher highlights a unique “delete” mechanic alongside the game’s questioning interface. It is part of the investigation’s risk-and-reward loop: questioning can uncover information, while your decisions about dialogue options matter. The available official descriptions do not establish a universally best order for questions or a guaranteed sequence that preserves every clue. Avoid treating an unverified sequence as a cheat code.

Why another playthrough can change the case
According to Wales Interactive, the murderer is randomly selected from three possibilities at the start of a playthrough. That variation is intended to reduce spoilers and encourage replay, so a suspect’s identity in one run should not be treated as a fixed answer for every run.

Choices can also affect whether the killer is caught, whether victims are saved, and whether relationships are made or broken. The publisher describes “catalytic events” where cornering someone can lead to more than one reaction. When a character responds unexpectedly, consider approaching the situation differently rather than assuming there are only two outcomes.

How to find hidden conversations and secrets
- Revisit characters in another form: the publisher confirms that shapeshifting can open secret conversations and private encounters.
- Return to a blocked lead as the Police Chief: this is the publisher’s specific suggestion for a vital clue you cannot get as yourself.
- Explore alternate approaches: catalytic events can produce multiple reactions, so one failed or surprising response may not exhaust the possibilities.
These are supported ways to search for hidden content, not a list of guaranteed triggers. Exact dialogue inputs, time-slot conditions, killer-specific routes and ending requirements are not established by the official descriptions cited here.

What to know before following an ending guide
The official descriptions confirm replay variation and consequential choices, but they do not provide exact dialogue routes or guaranteed ending conditions. A guide that claims a specific sequence always catches the killer or saves every victim needs to account for the randomly chosen murderer and the decisions in that run. Use route instructions only when they identify the relevant conditions and have been verified for the playthrough you are following.
For the game’s premise and release information, see the Steam store page. Wales Interactive is the source for the stated mechanics and response count; Nintendo’s listing applies specifically to the Switch edition.
