Start with privacy and security, then tune battery behavior, the split quick panel, display comfort and hardware shortcuts. On a Galaxy A36 5G or A56 5G, the most useful first-pass changes are lock-screen notification detail, Quick Share receiving, Auto Blocker, power-saving mode, panel layout, display motion and brightness, Side-button behavior, camera guides, and Live notifications.
Samsung’s currently documented A36 and A56 updates cover One UI 7, One UI 8.0 and One UI 8.5. The official material available here does not include a model-specific One UI 9.0 changelog, so treat the checklist below as settings to review after an update rather than features proven to be new in One UI 9.0. Labels and availability can differ by model, country, software build and network operator.
Use this order for your first setup review
Open each area below after the phone finishes updating and before you restore every app’s old behavior. The paths are the usual Samsung One UI routes; a carrier build may rename or relocate a control slightly.

|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Lock-screen notification detail | Settings > Notifications > Lock screen notifications | Prevents message text and other sensitive content appearing while the phone is locked. |
| 2 | Quick Share receiving | Quick panel > Quick Share, then its receiving or visibility options | Limits who can send files or sharing requests to the phone. |
| 3 | Auto Blocker and theft protection | Settings > Security and privacy | Blocks risky installs and connections and adds protection against repeated failed authentication. |
| 4 | Battery and power saving | Settings > Battery | Shows current usage and lets you choose between normal function and longer runtime. |
| 5 | Quick panel and notification layout | Swipe from the top-right for quick settings; swipe elsewhere along the top for notifications | One UI now separates the two panels, so the gesture you use determines what opens. |
| 6 | Display comfort and refresh behavior | Settings > Display | Balances smooth scrolling, eye comfort, readability and battery endurance. |
| 7 | Side button | Settings > Advanced features > Side button | Determines whether a press-and-hold opens the power menu or a digital assistant. |
| 8 | Camera guides | Camera > Settings | Adds framing aids and makes the reorganized camera controls predictable. |
| 9 | Live notifications and Now bar | Settings > Notifications, then app-specific notification controls | Controls which ongoing activities remain visible on the lock screen and status area. |
1. Hide sensitive information on the lock screen
Decide first whether anyone who picks up the locked phone should see message text, email previews, one-time codes or other app content. In Settings > Notifications > Lock screen notifications, choose the level of detail you are comfortable displaying. You can show alerts without their contents, show full content, or turn lock-screen notifications off, depending on the software build.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose detail by risk, not convenience
- Use a hidden-content option if the phone is often visible on a desk, in a vehicle or at work.
- Allow full details only when glanceable text is more important than privacy.
- Keep notifications enabled but conceal content when you still need to know that an alert arrived.
Also review the lock-screen notification setting inside individual sensitive apps. A banking, password-manager or messaging app can have a more restrictive choice than the general lock-screen preference.
Enable failed-authentication protection
Samsung’s documented update controls include Failed authentication lock. When enabled, the phone automatically locks after repeated failed fingerprint, PIN, pattern or password attempts. It is a useful companion to a concealed lock screen because it limits guessing opportunities if the handset is lost. Keep a recovery method you can remember; a stricter lock does not remove the need for a valid account or device-unlock credential.
2. Restrict who can receive files through Quick Share
Quick Share receiving is worth checking even if you rarely send files. Open Quick Share from the quick panel and inspect its receiving or visibility setting. When privacy is the priority, restrict receipt to devices signed in to your Samsung or Google account, rather than leaving the phone broadly discoverable.
Understand the trade-off
An account-restricted setting reduces unsolicited sharing requests and makes the phone less visible to nearby devices. The cost is convenience: a friend or colleague may need to sign in with an allowed account before sending. If you are transferring a file from an unfamiliar device, temporarily choose the narrowest setting that works and return to the restricted option afterward.
3. Keep Auto Blocker on and check device security
Go to Settings > Security and privacy and verify that Auto Blocker is enabled. It is designed to prevent potentially risky app installs and connections. Leave it on for normal use; disable it only for a specific, trusted task that cannot proceed otherwise.

Use the automatic rollback when a task requires a change
Samsung documents an option to turn Auto Blocker back on automatically after 30 minutes. Select that timer when you must switch the feature off temporarily. It reduces the chance that a one-time troubleshooting change remains active for days.
Check Knox Matrix status
Open the security and privacy area and review Knox Matrix status if it is offered on your build. Samsung uses Knox Matrix to show update status for supported devices signed in to a Samsung account. Availability and the exact status screen depend on supported devices and account configuration, so the absence of a Knox Matrix panel does not by itself indicate a fault.

4. Set battery behavior before you need emergency runtime
Open Settings > Battery and look at the redesigned remaining-time estimate, charging status and weekly-usage views. These screens give you a baseline before you change limits. Check which apps consume power over a full week rather than reacting to a single heavy day.
Standard versus Maximum power saving
| Mode | Best for | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Standard power saving | Everyday use when you want moderate savings | Applies adjustable restrictions while retaining most phone functions. You can tune limits such as background activity, display behavior or performance, depending on the build. |
| Maximum power saving | Long trips, outages or a critically low battery | Prioritizes remaining runtime over non-essential features. Some background work, connectivity behavior or app availability may be reduced. |
Neither mode is universally better. Choose Standard when calls, messaging, navigation and normal notifications must continue with minimal disruption. Choose Maximum when extending the time before the next charge matters more than convenience, then switch it off when normal operation is needed.
Use the display as a battery lever
The A36 and A56 both have a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, according to Samsung’s 2025 product announcement. Higher refresh rates make scrolling and animation look smoother, while a lower-demand configuration can extend endurance. Review Settings > Display > Motion smoothness and select the option that matches your priorities. Samsung’s labels and available choices can vary by software version.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Both phones list a typical 5,000mAh battery. Typical capacity is a product specification, not a promise of a particular number of hours; brightness, signal strength, camera use, games and background apps change actual runtime.
5. Learn the separated quick-settings and notification panels
One UI separates quick settings from notifications. Swipe down from the top-right corner to open quick settings. Swipe down elsewhere along the top edge to open notifications. This distinction is easy to miss after an update and can make the phone feel inconsistent until you learn it.
Reorder the controls you actually use
- Open the quick-settings panel with a top-right swipe.
- Tap the pencil or edit control.
- Drag frequently used buttons, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, flashlight, mobile data or power saving, into the first page.
- Remove or move controls you rarely touch, then save the arrangement.
Put Power saving and Quick Share where you can reach them without searching, but avoid placing a control where it can be tapped accidentally in a pocket or while handing the phone to someone.
Set notification pop-ups per app on the A56
On the Galaxy A56 with the documented One UI 8.5 behavior, notification pop-up style can be selected separately for each app. Open Settings > Notifications > App notifications, choose an app and adjust its pop-up behavior. Keep urgent communication apps prominent, while setting shopping, social or promotional apps to silent or less intrusive presentation. The A36 may expose a similar control on a later build, but Samsung’s retrieved A56 note is the specific evidence for per-app pop-up selection.
6. Make the display comfortable and readable
In Settings > Display, review these controls together rather than changing only one:

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
- Adaptive brightness: lets the phone respond to ambient light. Turn it on if you move between indoors and outdoors; turn it off only if you prefer to set brightness manually.
- Eye comfort shield: reduces cooler color tones during the schedule you choose. It can be useful at night, although color-sensitive photo or video work may look different.
- Screen timeout: use the shortest interval that does not interrupt reading or recipes. A long timeout keeps the screen lit unnecessarily.
- Font size and screen zoom: increase either when text is hard to read. Font size changes text more directly; screen zoom enlarges more interface elements.
- Motion smoothness: choose a smoother setting for scrolling or a lower-demand setting when battery life takes precedence.
After changing zoom or font size, check the quick panel and keyboard as well as the Settings app. A value that improves readability in one app can make controls feel cramped elsewhere.
7. Decide what a press-and-hold of the Side button should do
Samsung’s A36 update notes state that pressing and holding the Side button can open Google Gemini or another digital assistant, and that the action can be changed in Settings. Open Settings > Advanced features > Side button and select the behavior you expect.
Pick the action that matches your muscle memory
- Choose the power-menu behavior if you regularly restart, shut down or access emergency options with the button.
- Choose an assistant if voice commands and on-screen help are more useful than a hardware power menu.
- Test the setting immediately, including a short press for wake/lock and a long press, so you know which gesture performs each action.
Assistant availability and naming can vary by account, language and region. A changed Side-button action does not change your phone’s underlying power or emergency controls; it changes the shortcut used to reach them.

The documented camera reorganization adds a default 2x zoom button and separates grid-line and horizontal/vertical-level controls. Open the Camera app, then its settings, and decide whether those aids belong in your default view.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Turn on framing aids when alignment matters
Enable grid lines for architecture, product photos or consistently placed horizons. Enable the horizontal/vertical level when you frequently shoot buildings, tables or landscapes and want a visual cue for tilt. Leave both off if a clean preview helps you compose faster. These overlays affect the viewfinder, not the saved image.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Use the 2x shortcut deliberately
The 2x button gives you a quick tighter framing without searching through the zoom scale. It is useful for portraits and distant details, but changing magnification can alter framing and available light. Tap it once, check the preview and return to 1x when you need the widest view.
9. Control Live notifications and the Now bar
Live notifications can show ongoing progress for timers, recordings and exercises on the lock screen, status bar and notification panel. That can be helpful when a timer is running, but noisy when many apps are allowed to publish persistent activity.
Choose which apps may stay visible
- Open Settings > Notifications.
- Review the app notification list and select apps that create ongoing activity.
- Keep live progress for functions you actively monitor, such as a workout or recording.
- Disable or reduce it for apps whose status is not important on the lock screen.
Because Live notifications can appear while the phone is locked, apply the lock-screen privacy decision from the first section to these alerts as well. A progress label can reveal as much context as a message preview.
What differs between the Galaxy A36 and A56?
The settings paths are broadly shared because both phones use Samsung’s One UI, but update timing and feature availability are model-, country- and carrier-dependent. Hardware differences can affect how demanding a setting feels, even when the menu is identical.
| Specification | Galaxy A36 5G | Galaxy A56 5G |
|---|---|---|
| Display | 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED, 120Hz | 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED, 120Hz |
| Typical battery capacity | 5,000mAh | 5,000mAh |
| Platform named by Samsung | Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 | Exynos 1580 |
| Charging support | 45W charging with Super Fast Charge 2.0 | 45W charging with Super Fast Charge 2.0 |
Samsung’s 2025 announcement also states that the A36 and A56 are eligible for six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades and six years of security updates. Eligibility does not mean every feature arrives on both models at the same time; carrier certification and regional rollout can change the schedule.
Charging and accessory requirements
Both phones support 45W charging with Super Fast Charge 2.0. To use that capability, use a compatible 45W USB-C charger and an appropriate cable; verify the plug type and contents for your region before buying, because charger-in-box policies and electrical standards differ. A higher-rated charger does not force the phone to draw more power than it supports, but an incompatible or low-quality cable can prevent the advertised charging mode.
How to handle an update that changes a setting back
After a major One UI update, revisit the nine areas above instead of assuming every preference survived unchanged. If a control is missing, search Settings by its name, check whether the phone is on the latest carrier build, and confirm that the feature is supported in your country. Do not treat a menu moved to another section as proof that the phone has One UI 9.0-specific behavior.
Keep the evidence boundary clear
The official A56 page retrieved for this guide identifies One UI 8.5 in a release dated May 19, 2026, plus earlier One UI 8.0 entries. The A36 page documents One UI 8.5 and One UI 8.0 entries and One UI 7 features such as separated panels and Live notifications. Until Samsung publishes a One UI 9.0 release note for the exact A36 or A56 model and region, describe these as settings to review after updating, not as confirmed One UI 9.0 introductions.
