Returning cast
Brendan Fraser is returning as adventurer Rick O’Connell, the character he played in the 1999 original and its two direct sequels. Rachel Weisz is also returning as Egyptologist Evelyn O’Connell.
#1 Best Overall
Trade reports additionally identify John Hannah, Oded Fehr and Kevin J. O’Connor among the returning supporting players. Michael Johnston and Numan Acar are also reported as part of the cast. The reports do not specify the screen time, story roles or relationships of the returning supporting characters.
Who is directing and writing?
Directors
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are directing. The pair are widely known as the filmmaking team Radio Silence. Their appointment places the sequel under a different directing team from the earlier Fraser films.
Rank #2
Screenplay
David Coggeshall wrote the screenplay. No production statement has yet disclosed the film’s final shooting schedule, budget or rating.
How it fits the earlier Mummy movies
The film follows the Fraser-led continuity established by The Mummy (1999), The Mummy Returns (2001) and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008). Those three movies form the existing sequence connected with Rick and Evelyn O’Connell.

The title’s reference to the Egyptian Book of the Dead may invite guesses about ancient Egyptian mythology or a direct continuation of earlier supernatural plot elements. At present, however, Universal has not published a synopsis confirming what the title means, which characters drive the story or how the new adventure connects to specific events from the previous films. Any such explanation remains speculation until an official story description appears.
What has not been announced
Announcement coverage confirms the title, release plan, principal filmmakers and reported cast, but leaves several practical questions open:
Rank #4
- No full plot synopsis has been released; the story is being kept secret.
- No trailer, teaser, poster campaign or footage has been officially detailed.
- No U.S. or international rating has been announced.
- No production budget has been disclosed.
- No licensed merchandise lineup or release schedule has been confirmed.
That means descriptions circulating online should be separated from verified announcements, especially claims about a specific villain, setting, mythology or the precise role of a returning actor.

What to watch for next
The next meaningful updates will likely be an official synopsis, production or photography announcements, a first trailer and a formal rating. Those materials should clarify whether the movie is designed as a direct continuation of the O’Connell family story, how much of the earlier mythology returns and whether the title refers to a specific artifact or only the film’s broader Egyptian setting.
Until then, the reliable takeaway is straightforward: the fourth Fraser-era entry has a confirmed name, a scheduled theatrical date and its two central stars returning, while the plot and marketing details remain undisclosed.
