The quickest way to play The Midnight Walk on Switch 2 is the digital edition, which launched on March 26, 2026 for a US Nintendo eShop price of $29.99. Nintendo lists a 14.7 GB download, single-system play, TV, tabletop and handheld modes, Save Data Cloud support and the supported languages shown on its product page. A cartridge version is available from Super Rare Games, but it costs more, is sold in limited quantities and has a later estimated delivery. The right choice depends on whether you value immediate access and convenience or a physical cartridge and collector packaging.
Release dates and editions at a glance
There are two materially different ways to buy The Midnight Walk for Nintendo Switch 2:
- Digital edition: released March 26, 2026 through Nintendo eShop. Fast Travel Games announced a US launch price of $29.99.
- Standard physical edition: a limited-run Nintendo Switch 2 cartridge from Super Rare Games, listed at £46.20, with 5,000 copies planned.
- Special Edition: listed at £64.20 and adds soundtrack and collectible items to the cartridge package.
The physical listing gives August 13, 2026 as its release date, while Super Rare Games’ shipping information currently estimates delivery in early November 2026 for the standard package and mid-to-late November 2026 for the Special Edition. Those are seller estimates, not guaranteed arrival dates. A product’s listed release date and the date it reaches your address are therefore not the same thing.

Fast Travel Games describes the premise, in wording reproduced on Nintendo’s product page, as: “Befriend a lost lantern creature and light your way through a world of wonder and terror.” That description establishes the game’s central relationship and its contrasting tone without promising a particular performance level, playtime or completion length.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
No authoritative figure for frame rate, total runtime or completion time is established in the available product information. Treat any such numbers found in retailer copy or forum posts as unverified unless they come from a separately identified, reliable source.
Digital edition: specifications and practical implications
Price and availability
Fast Travel Games announced a US Nintendo eShop price of $29.99 for the digital launch on March 26, 2026. The amount displayed to you can differ because Nintendo eShop pricing is set by Nintendo Account country. A US price is not a promise of the equivalent amount in pounds, euros or another currency, and taxes or local pricing rules can affect the checkout total.
Download size
Nintendo lists the download at 14.7 GB. Before purchasing, check free space on the Switch 2’s internal storage or on a compatible microSD Express card. The listed size is the product’s stated download requirement; an update or temporary installation space can make the free-space requirement at the moment of installation somewhat higher.

- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.

How you can play
- Players: one player on a single system.
- Modes: TV mode, tabletop mode and handheld mode.
- Save Data Cloud: supported, so a Nintendo Switch Online subscriber can use Nintendo’s cloud-save feature where the account and service support it.
- Languages: use the language list shown on Nintendo’s product page for your region; the available set can be presented differently by regional storefronts.
These specifications make digital the straightforward option if you want to start on launch day, switch between docked and handheld play, or avoid waiting for a shipment. Digital ownership also means the game is tied to the purchasing Nintendo Account rather than represented by a cartridge you can lend or resell.
How to buy and install the digital version
- Connect the Switch 2 to the internet and open Nintendo eShop from the HOME Menu.
- Select the Nintendo Account you intend to use for the purchase. Check the account country before paying, because that determines the storefront and displayed currency.
- Search for The Midnight Walk and confirm that the listing is for Nintendo Switch 2 and shows the expected digital price in your region.
- Complete payment. The download normally starts automatically; if it does not, return to the HOME Menu and select the software icon or the download-management notice.
- Check available storage under the Switch 2’s System Settings and Data Management menus if installation pauses or fails. Free at least the listed 14.7 GB, plus room for system overhead and updates.
- Launch the game after the download completes. Keep the console connected to power if the download is large or your connection is slow.
If the listing cannot be found, first verify the account’s country and that you are browsing the Switch 2 eShop rather than a different regional storefront. If the purchase succeeds but the software is absent, open the same Nintendo Account’s redownload or virtual-game-library area and check the download queue before purchasing again.
Standard physical edition: what £46.20 buys
Super Rare Games lists the standard package at £46.20. It includes:

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- A Nintendo Switch 2 cartridge containing the game
- A full-colour manual
- A numbered slipcover
- A sticker
The listing states that 5,000 copies are being produced. That makes the edition a limited physical run rather than a permanently stocked retail release. Availability can therefore change as copies are ordered, and the price is quoted in pounds by the seller rather than converted from the US eShop price.
The cartridge is the practical advantage: you can install and play without downloading the full game first, although a console update or game patch could still require internet access. Physical ownership also gives you an object to keep, lend or sell subject to the seller’s terms and your local rules. It takes longer to obtain, however. Super Rare Games currently estimates standard-edition arrival in early November 2026.
Special Edition: extras and the £64.20 premium
The Special Edition is listed at £64.20. It includes the physical game and adds:

- A Potboy split-ring
- A double-CD soundtrack
- Trading cards
- A protective clamshell box
Compared with the £46.20 standard package, the listed price difference is £18.00. That extra amount pays for presentation and collectibles, not a separately documented gameplay mode or technical upgrade. Super Rare Games estimates delivery for the Special Edition in mid-to-late November 2026, later than the standard package.
The packaging is best understood as a collector-focused purchase. If you only want to play, the digital edition supplies the fastest access and the standard cartridge supplies the lower-cost physical route. Choose the Special Edition when the soundtrack, Potboy item, cards and clamshell are worth the additional £18 and the later estimated delivery to you.

Which edition should you choose?
Choose digital if immediate access is the priority
Digital is the sensible choice when you want to play on March 26, 2026, do not need a cartridge, and have at least 14.7 GB of usable storage. It avoids international shipping and the wait until November estimates. It is also the least complicated option if you buy in a country whose eShop carries the game and you are comfortable keeping the purchase on one Nintendo Account.
Choose the standard cartridge if you want physical ownership
The standard edition is the better fit when you prefer a cartridge, manual and numbered slipcover but do not need the soundtrack bundle. It costs £16.21 more than the announced US digital price before currency conversion, taxes and shipping; that is not a like-for-like regional price comparison, but it illustrates why physical and digital totals should be evaluated in your own market. The trade-off is waiting for the seller’s early-November estimate and accepting that the 5,000-copy run can sell out.
Choose the Special Edition for the extras
Buy the Special Edition only if its physical additions have real value to you. The package costs £18 more than the standard edition and is estimated to arrive later. Nothing in the listing indicates a different game, extra content or improved performance, so the premium is for the soundtrack, Potboy split-ring, trading cards and protective box.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

- Dates are estimates: early November for standard and mid-to-late November for Special Edition are current shipping estimates, not guaranteed delivery commitments.
- Currency is not interchangeable: £46.20 and £64.20 are seller prices in pounds; the US eShop announcement is $29.99. Your final cost can include taxes, payment-conversion charges and international postage.
- Region free does not mean instantly available everywhere: Super Rare Games says its Switch 2 products are region free, while digital access still depends on Nintendo Account country and local eShop availability.
- Check the exact product: a trading-card pack listed separately by Super Rare Games is an optional collectible and is not the game itself.
When ordering a physical edition, save the order confirmation and monitor the seller’s shipping updates. If a package has not arrived near the estimate, use the seller’s support process and carrier tracking rather than placing a duplicate order.
What is not established by the product information
The available Nintendo and publisher listings establish the release date, price announcement, download size, modes, cloud-save support and physical contents. They do not establish a frame-rate target, resolution, battery-life impact, average playtime, completion length or review consensus. Those details can vary by update and testing method, so they should not be treated as known specifications when deciding between editions.
Bottom line for a Switch 2 buyer
Buy digital for the fastest and simplest route: it launched March 26, 2026, carries a US announced price of $29.99, and requires a 14.7 GB download. Buy the £46.20 standard cartridge if the manual, numbered slipcover and physical ownership justify waiting for an estimated early-November shipment. Pay £64.20 for the Special Edition only when its soundtrack and collectibles matter enough to justify £18 more and a mid-to-late-November estimate. In every case, verify your Nintendo Account region, available storage, shipping destination and the seller’s current terms before paying.
