Yes—if by “peak iPhone” you mean the high point of Apple’s home-button era with 3D Touch. No—not as a universal winner. The 6s brought a distinctive pressure-sensitive interface, the A9 chip, Live Photos and camera upgrades, and it launched to record early demand. Whether it was the best iPhone depends on what matters most: interaction and design, or later generations’ capabilities, support and condition.
What does “peak iPhone” mean?
There is no single objective peak unless the measure is defined. A phone can stand out for its design and feel while losing to newer models on software support, speed, camera features or practical ownership today. The strongest case for the 6s is therefore about a particular kind of iPhone experience, not proof that it is the best across every generation.
For a fair comparison, consider the 6s against later iPhones of similar size, and assess the 6s Plus separately where its specifications differ. The useful questions are whether you value its interaction style and physical design, how it compares on camera and performance, and whether a used handset remains viable in light of its battery and software situation.

3D Touch made interaction distinctive
Apple announced the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus on September 9, 2015, highlighting 3D Touch, the A9 chip, Live Photos and camera improvements. Apple described 3D Touch as sensing how firmly a user pressed the screen, opening new ways to access features and interact with content. That gave the 6s a recognizable interaction idea beyond the familiar home-button design. Apple’s launch announcement called the new phones “the most advanced iPhones ever”—a claim about their standing at launch, not a timeless ranking.

It combined a familiar shape with meaningful upgrades
Apple’s technical specifications list an A9 chip and a Retina HD display with 3D Touch for the iPhone 6s. The generation also brought Live Photos and camera upgrades, making it more than a cosmetic refresh. For people who liked the classic home-button format and wanted a phone with a distinctive touch interface, that combination is the heart of the 6s’s appeal. Apple’s iPhone 6s technical specifications document the model’s hardware.
Launch demand was exceptionally strong
Apple said the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus together sold more than 13 million units in their first three days, describing the result as a record on September 28, 2015. CEO Tim Cook said sales had “blowing past any previous first weekend sales results in Apple’s history.” This is evidence of exceptional launch-window demand, not a lifetime sales ranking or independent proof that the 6s was the greatest iPhone. Apple’s sales announcement gives the date and scope of the figure.

Where the 6s claim needs qualification
The 6s and 6s Plus are not interchangeable
Do not attribute every 6s-family feature to both sizes. Apple’s specifications for the 6s Plus specifically list optical image stabilization for video. That distinction should not be generalized to the standard 6s. Check the exact model’s specifications before using a camera feature as a reason to choose one. Apple’s iPhone 6s Plus technical specifications identify the Plus model’s listed video stabilization.

The 13-million figure covers combined sales of the two models in their first three days. It says nothing by itself about lifetime sales compared with every iPhone generation, nor does it measure satisfaction, durability or capability. It supports the narrower point that the 6s had a remarkably successful opening weekend by Apple’s own reporting.

A “peak” verdict cannot settle today’s buying questions
The specifications and launch announcements establish what Apple introduced and reported in 2015. They do not establish the 6s’s current software or security support, compatibility with today’s apps, relative performance against later phones, or present-day value. Those issues matter if “peak” means a good phone to use now rather than a memorable design generation. A used device’s battery and repair condition also affect its practical value; the model name alone cannot tell you the state of a particular handset.

As a personal or design-era peak, it has a strong case. The 6s paired the home-button format with 3D Touch, an A9 chip, Live Photos and camera improvements, and its launch was unusually successful. If those qualities define what you want from an iPhone, calling it your peak is reasonable.

As the best iPhone overall, the evidence does not establish that. Apple’s period-specific praise and first-weekend sales record cannot substitute for a comparison of later models, current support, camera and performance needs, or the condition of the individual phone. The fairest verdict is that the 6s was a distinctive high point for a particular style of iPhone—not a proven universal champion.
