The Galaxy Z Fold8’s unfolded 4:3 inner screen makes it unusually well suited to displaying Nintendo DS games with both screens stacked in portrait orientation. In Android Authority’s hands-on experience, that layout felt roomy for games such as Advance Wars: Dual Strike and Trauma Surgeon. But it is not a universal DS solution: games that rely on button inputs were less comfortable for that reviewer, Samsung says the phone does not support S Pen, and there is no published DS-specific battery-life or broad compatibility test.
Why the Fold8’s screen works for DS games
A Nintendo DS presents two screens, usually one above the other. Samsung lists the Galaxy Z Fold8’s inner display as 4:3, a shape that gives an emulator room to stack those screens in portrait orientation. The cover display is 10:16, so the main advantage applies when the phone is unfolded.
Android Authority reviewer Hadlee Simons describes the stacked arrangement as not feeling cramped and says Advance Wars: Dual Strike and Trauma Surgeon felt at home on the wide Fold. That is a hands-on observation about the layout, not a controlled comparison or a guarantee that every game will feel equally comfortable. Android Authority’s Fold8 review discusses the experience; Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 product page lists the display specifications.

Where the experience falls short
Button-heavy games
The screen arrangement does not solve control problems. Simons reports that games requiring button inputs did not work as well for him. Treat that as one reviewer’s experience rather than a general compatibility finding: the available evidence does not establish which games are affected, how a particular controller would perform, or whether every player will encounter the same issue.

Stylus-dependent play
Samsung’s US product information says the Fold8 does not support S Pen. Android Central explains that the device lacks the digitizer layer needed for Samsung’s proprietary S Pen input. Do not buy or configure an S Pen expecting it to provide DS-style stylus input on this phone. That limitation matters most for games whose touch controls or drawing mechanics are central to play. Android Central’s S Pen explanation covers the hardware distinction.
Hinge positioning
Samsung says the Fold8 is designed for fully open or fully closed use and does not support FlexMode. The available product information therefore does not support treating the hinge as a stand for play at arbitrary angles. Check the official Fold8 specifications and feature details before relying on a particular viewing position.

Use a DS emulator, not a 3DS emulator
DraStic’s FAQ describes the app as a Nintendo DS emulator, not an emulator for Nintendo 3DS or 2DS. A Fold8 screen that accommodates two stacked displays does not change the emulator’s supported system. If a game is for 3DS, the DS layout alone does not make it playable in DraStic.
DraStic also says GPU speed makes little difference to its DS rendering, while multi-threaded rendering can introduce graphical glitches or instability. Those notes apply to DraStic; they are not a general performance rule for every emulator. See the DraStic FAQ.

What the performance and battery figures do—and do not—show
Samsung advertises a 4,800 mAh battery and up to 26 hours of continuous playback. The 26-hour figure is a manufacturer playback claim, not an estimate of DS gameplay runtime. The reviewed sources do not establish how long the Fold8 lasts while emulating DS games.
Android Authority recorded 46–49% stability across three GPU stress tests. Those results describe the review’s stress-test runs, not DS game compatibility, frame rate, or evidence that DraStic will throttle during play. Because DraStic says GPU speed has little effect on its DS rendering, it would be misleading to turn those stress figures into a prediction about DS performance. Samsung’s figures appear in its Fold8 product materials; the stress-test context is in Android Authority’s review.

How to decide whether it suits your DS library
- Consider it if: you want two DS screens stacked on a large phone display and the games you play suit touch input or the controls you intend to use.
- Be cautious if: your preferred games depend heavily on physical buttons or precise stylus input. The reviewer noted button-input drawbacks, and the Fold8 does not support S Pen.
- Check the system first: DraStic covers DS, not 3DS or 2DS.
- Do not assume: a universal game-compatibility rate, recommended controller, long-session comfort, or DS-specific runtime. The cited sources do not establish those points.
- Weigh the purchase in context: Android Authority cited a $1,899.99 MSRP in its 2026 review period. That is a time-specific reference, not a current quote; verify local price and availability before buying. The Fold8’s case is strongest for someone who also values its everyday foldable-phone uses.
