Dangote Cement’s reported share-price gain was more than 93% year to date as of a Nairametrics report published on 19 May 2026—not a verified return through 12 October. The company’s audited FY2025 results and unaudited first-quarter 2026 results show substantial earnings growth, but they do not establish that the shares are cheap or that the rally will continue. The investment case turns on whether stronger margins, exports and expansion can deliver durable returns despite uneven volumes, currency exposure and execution risk.
What does the reported share-price gain measure?
Nairametrics reported on 19 May 2026 that Dangote Cement shares had gained more than 93% year to date on the Nigerian Exchange. The report mentioned the proposed final dividend alongside the share-price move; it does not establish that the dividend caused the rise.
The report does not specify a precise starting price, an end-of-day price, or whether the return includes dividends. It therefore supports a dated account of the reported move, not a precisely reproducible total return or a claim about performance through 12 October 2026. Dangote Cement identifies its NGX ticker as DANGCEM and its ISIN as NGDANGCEM008.
What do the company’s results say about the business?
The audited FY2025 results show that revenue and earnings rose sharply even as group volume edged lower. The unaudited Q1 2026 figures show growth in revenue, earnings and volume, but one quarter cannot by itself establish a lasting trend.

Earnings grew faster than volume in FY2025
The gap between declining group volume and rising revenue and profit means volume alone does not explain the year’s performance. Price and product mix, operating costs, currency translation and efficiency can all affect revenue and margins. The reported figures show the outcome, but do not isolate how much each factor contributed.

The company said Nigeria cash cost declined, attributing this to a favorable energy mix. That is a useful sign of cost control, not proof that fuel, foreign-exchange or financing pressures have disappeared.
Q1 adds evidence, but only for one quarter
Q1 results show higher sales volume alongside revenue and profit growth, with the reported EBITDA margin also above the FY2025 margin. The quarter is encouraging evidence of operating momentum, but seasonality, market conditions and subsequent results could change the picture.

Can exports and new capacity sustain growth?
For FY2025, Nigeria cement and clinker exports rose 18.6% to 1.4 million tonnes. The company also reported 34 clinker shipments from Nigeria to Ghana and Cameroon. In Q1 2026, Nigeria cement and clinker exports rose 71.6% to 549.6 thousand tonnes. These figures show an expanding export channel, though export growth alone does not establish its profitability or durability.
Dangote Cement commissioned a 3Mta grinding plant in Côte d’Ivoire during Q3 2025. Its investor-relations materials describe the business as exposure to Sub-Saharan Africa’s growth potential and list total capacity of 55.0Mta. Capacity is what a company can produce under specified conditions; it is not the same as actual production, utilization or profitable returns on invested capital. The company’s reported figures cited here do not establish the new plant’s current utilization or return on capital.

What could undermine the operating case?
Volume and margin may not move together
The slight FY2025 group-volume decline is a counterweight to the large increase in earnings. The first-quarter rebound is a single-quarter result, so investors would need subsequent reporting to see whether volume growth persists and whether margins hold up as output changes.

Expansion must earn its cost
More export activity and new grinding capacity create room to serve additional markets, but also make ramp-up, utilization, logistics and capital returns important. A larger footprint is not automatically a more valuable business if new assets take time to reach efficient operation or fail to earn adequate returns.

Currency and input costs remain relevant
Dangote Cement’s FY2024 annual report described major naira depreciation, inflation-linked production-cost increases and foreign-currency exposures. It recorded a ₦249.3 billion foreign-exchange loss for 2024 and reported a 38.6% average naira loss in the official FX window that year. Those are historical FY2024 figures, not reported FY2025 or 2026 losses. The company’s FY2025 statement about lower Nigeria cash cost from a favorable energy mix does not eliminate exposure to currency movements, fuel costs or financing conditions.

Dangote Cement’s share-information page lists a ₦45 cash dividend per share for FY2025, declared on 26 February 2026, with a record date of 17 June 2026 and payment on 2 July 2026. The FY2024 dividend was ₦30 per share. The dividend is a cash distribution, but its amount alone does not establish yield: yield requires a share price tied to a specific date. Nor does the dividend announcement prove it drove the share-price movement reported in May.
Does the evidence show whether the shares are attractive?
No. The operating results support the view that the business delivered strong earnings growth, while the export and capacity figures point to avenues for further expansion. But a strong business result and an attractive stock price are different questions. No aligned, dated share-price series, market capitalization, valuation multiple or comparable peer data is established here, so the available figures cannot show whether the post-rally valuation is reasonable or predict future returns.

Without those matched inputs, treating earnings growth alone as proof that the shares justify their price would overreach.
How management characterizes the year
In the FY2025 results release, Chief Executive Officer Arvind Pathak called the year “a landmark year for Dangote Cement” and said the performance underscored the company’s business model and strategic initiatives. That is management’s characterization of the results, not independent validation of the investment case.
