These are the best smartphones to buy in the U.S. in 2026, ranked by the type of buyer they suit rather than by price alone. The list uses unlocked prices and excludes carrier promotions, trade-in credits, and temporary discounts, which often require a specific plan or financing term.
For most buyers, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is the best all-around phone, while the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is the most complete Android flagship. Less expensive options such as the Google Pixel 10a, iPhone 17e, and Pixel 10 cover the needs of buyers who do not want to spend $1,000 or more.

Best Android phone: Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra
The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is the most feature-rich Android phone in this lineup. The unlocked 256GB model starts at $1,299.99. It combines a 6.9-inch QHD+ display, high-end cameras, extensive multitasking, IP68 water resistance, and an integrated S Pen.
Samsung has also added Privacy Display, which is intended to reduce what people can see from the side. The phone weighs 214 grams and is 7.9mm thick, so it is large but not unusually heavy for its size. It runs Android 16 with One UI 8.5.
The S Pen is useful for handwritten notes, markup, remote camera controls, and precise editing. Samsung’s software also makes the Ultra particularly good for split-screen apps and desktop-style workflows. Regional processor configurations can differ, so check the specification for the market where you are buying it.
Buy it if: you want a large QHD+ screen, long-range zoom, an S Pen, or the fullest Android multitasking experience.
Rank #2
- This device is locked to T-Mobile only and not compatible with any other carrier.
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- When you receive the phone, insert a SIM card from a compatible carrier. Then, turn it on, connect to Wi-Fi, and follow the on screen prompts to activate service.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charger and charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Skip it if: you mainly want a comfortable, lightweight Samsung phone. The regular Galaxy S26 is easier to handle and makes more sense if you do not need the Ultra camera system or stylus.
Best iPhone value: iPhone 17
The iPhone 17 delivers current iPhone performance and a premium experience for $799 with 256GB of storage. A 512GB version is also available.
It is the better purchase than the iPhone 17 Pro for people who do not need the Pro camera system, ProRes RAW, LiDAR, or the A19 Pro chip. It retains the core iPhone experience without moving into Pro Max pricing.
Do not confuse it with the cheaper iPhone 17e. The iPhone 17 is the more complete mainstream model, while the 17e makes more substantial compromises in camera hardware, display features, and connectivity to reach its lower price.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Best Android value: Google Pixel 10
The Google Pixel 10 is a strong fit for buyers who want clean Android software, Google’s computational photography, and integrated AI tools without paying Pro or Ultra prices.
Google sells it unlocked through the Google Store. The Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL start at $999 before discounts, but Google may show promotional pricing that should not be treated as permanent MSRP. The regular Pixel 10 is generally the better value for everyday users who do not need the Pro models’ larger camera sensor and advanced controls.
Pixel software is relatively straightforward, and the phone is a good choice if you already rely on Google Photos, Gmail, Drive, Assistant features, or other Google services. It is not the first choice for the most demanding gaming workloads; buyers who prioritize sustained gaming performance should look at the OnePlus 15 or a top Samsung model.

Best battery life: OnePlus 15
The OnePlus 15 is the battery specialist. Its U.S. battery exceeds 7,000mAh, and OnePlus advertises sustained 120fps gameplay in supported titles. That makes it especially appealing for travel, navigation, hotspot use, long gaming sessions, and anyone who dislikes charging during the day.
The trade-off is that camera processing, software polish, and ecosystem integration are not as consistently strong as on Apple, Google, or Samsung flagships. Those compromises may not matter if endurance is your main priority.
OnePlus notes that specifications can vary by market, production batch, and supply conditions. Before ordering, confirm the exact U.S. configuration on the OnePlus product page rather than relying on a specification copied from another region.
Best budget Android phone: Google Pixel 10a
At $499, the Google Pixel 10a is the best sub-$500 Android phone for most buyers. It has a 6.3-inch pOLED Actua display with a variable 60–120Hz refresh rate, a typical 5,100mAh battery, and Google’s seven-year update guarantee.
The camera system includes a 48MP wide camera and a 13MP ultrawide camera. Storage options are 128GB and 256GB, and the phone uses Google’s Tensor G4 processor. Google claims more than 30 hours of battery life.
The 120Hz-capable display and ultrawide camera are important advantages at this price. Several competing budget phones still offer slower displays or only one useful rear camera.
Important: the Pixel 10a is not a 60Hz-only phone. Its Smooth Display operates between 60Hz and 120Hz, depending on what is happening on screen.

Best budget iPhone: iPhone 17e
The iPhone 17e starts at $599 for 256GB, with a 512GB version priced at $799. It is the right low-cost iPhone for buyers who value iOS, Apple services, and long-term software support more than camera flexibility or advanced display features.
It uses the A19 chip and has one 48MP Fusion rear camera. A 2x optical telephoto option is produced through the main sensor rather than a separate telephoto camera. Video recording reaches 4K Dolby Vision at up to 60fps, and Apple rates battery life at up to 26 hours of video playback.
The 17e includes IP68 water resistance and USB-C, but its USB connection is limited to USB 2 speeds. It does not have the iPhone 17’s more complete camera arrangement or the Pro models’ dedicated telephoto system.
Choose the Pixel 10a instead if you want an ultrawide camera, a 120Hz display, wireless charging, or a lower starting price. The Pixel is $100 cheaper at its listed starting price.
Best compact flagship: Samsung Galaxy S26
The Samsung Galaxy S26 is the best compact Android flagship for people who want high-end performance without the Ultra’s size. It has a 6.3-inch AMOLED display, weighs 167 grams, and is 7.2mm thick.
It is a better ergonomic choice, not a smaller version of every Ultra feature. The S26 does not include the Ultra’s full camera system, integrated S Pen, or largest battery. Buy it for comfortable handling and flagship performance, not if you specifically want maximum zoom or stylus-based productivity.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

Best foldable: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 is the best choice if a phone that opens into a tablet-like workspace will change how you read, type, or multitask. Its revised design is wider and more passport-like than earlier Galaxy Fold models. The inner screen uses a 4:3 aspect ratio, while the cover display is more usable when the phone is closed.
The wider shape is a meaningful improvement for reading documents, running two apps side by side, and typing on the inner display. It is a productivity device first, rather than simply a conventional phone that happens to fold.
Choose the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold if camera output and Google’s software experience matter more than maximum multitasking and gaming performance. Pixel foldables are particularly attractive for computational photography and Google services.

Foldables remain more expensive and mechanically complex than conventional phones. Buy one only when the inner display solves a real problem; novelty alone is not a good reason to accept the higher price and additional moving parts.
How to choose the right phone
- Set a realistic total budget. Compare unlocked MSRP with the total cost of any carrier plan, required financing, and accessories. A phone advertised as “free” may require a new line, an eligible trade-in, or 36 months of bill credits.
- Choose an operating system. iPhones are the straightforward choice for Apple Watch, AirPods, iMessage, FaceTime, and other Apple services. Android offers more hardware variety, customization, split-screen tools, and form factors such as the Fold8.
- Decide whether size matters. The Galaxy S26 is 167 grams, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max has a 6.9-inch display and weighs 233 grams. A larger screen is useful for video and multitasking, but it is less comfortable in a pocket or one-handed.
- Buy for your actual camera use. A dedicated telephoto camera matters for distant subjects. An ultrawide camera matters for landscapes and groups. If you mainly photograph people, pets, and documents, a less expensive computational-photography phone may be sufficient.
- Check storage before ordering. The iPhone 17 Pro Max can reach 2TB, but the Pixel 10a starts at 128GB. Video, games, and offline maps can make 128GB feel restrictive over several years.
- Verify regional specifications. SIM support, processors, charging, storage, and network bands can differ between countries. This is especially important for Samsung and OnePlus models.
2026 claims that are wrong or outdated
- “The iPhone 17e is the new iPhone SE.” Apple calls it the iPhone 17e. It starts at $599 and uses the A19 chip with a 48MP Fusion camera, USB-C, and satellite emergency features.
- “The Pixel 10a has a 60Hz screen.” It supports a 60–120Hz refresh rate.
- “Every Galaxy S26 uses the same processor worldwide.” Samsung lists Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and Exynos 2600 configurations in its 2026 reporting. The exact processor depends on the model and market.
- “The iPhone 17 Pro Max starts at $1,099.” Apple lists the 6.9-inch Pro Max from $1,199. The $1,099 figure is associated with the smaller iPhone 17 Pro in Apple’s buying materials.
- “A carrier promotion is the phone’s real price.” Separate the unlocked phone price from trade-in savings, required plans, bill credits, and financing. Compare the complete amount paid over the required term.
