Wiz and Orca Security are the closest Pluto Security alternatives for most multi-cloud teams: both provide agentless, context-rich cloud visibility and attack-path prioritization. Choose Prisma Cloud when you need a broad enterprise CNAPP and deep compliance controls, FortiCNAPP when behavioral runtime detection is the priority, or Aqua Security when Kubernetes and container protection dominate your risk.

Pluto is a different category from a conventional CNAPP. It focuses on employee use of AI builders, developer tools and business workspaces, combining discovery, contextual risk analysis and real-time policy enforcement. The right replacement therefore depends on whether your primary problem is AI-workspace governance or cloud infrastructure and workload security.

What Pluto Security does—and why the distinction matters

Pluto Security describes itself as a workspace-security platform for the AI era. Its operating model is built around organization-wide use of AI builders, developer tools and business workspaces rather than only around cloud accounts and server workloads.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The platform combines three functions:

  • Discovery: identify the AI tools, builders and workspaces employees are using.
  • Contextual risk analysis: assess use in the context of data, identities, activity and business exposure.
  • Real-time guardrails and enforcement: apply governance policies while people continue working.

Pluto’s 2026 research coverage also discusses AI and developer-workflow supply-chain risks, including malicious Open VSX extensions and exposed MCP servers. That scope is important for teams whose concern is what employees connect to, install or expose while building with AI.

Pluto is sold as SaaS. Its AWS Marketplace listing shows a 12-month contract price of $1,000,000 and says pricing is contract-based, but the listing does not define the unit being priced. Confirm whether the figure covers users, workspaces, data volume, business units or another measure before treating it as a budget estimate.

A conventional cloud-native application-protection platform (CNAPP) answers a different question: where are cloud assets misconfigured, vulnerable, overexposed or behaving abnormally, and which attack path should security fix first? Some products below may complement Pluto rather than replace its AI-workspace controls.

Quick comparison of the leading alternatives

Wiz: the closest agentless alternative for graph-based cloud context

Why teams choose it

Wiz connects to major cloud providers through read-only APIs and builds a Security Graph. The graph correlates identity risks, cloud misconfigurations, vulnerabilities and network exposure, then presents the relationships as attack paths. This lets a small security team start with the exposures most likely to produce a reachable compromise instead of sorting through disconnected findings.

The agentless model reduces deployment friction: security can begin with cloud permissions and API access rather than installing software on every workload. That is particularly useful when engineering teams cannot tolerate changes to production images or when the organization operates AWS, Azure and Google Cloud Platform at the same time.

Where Wiz is a better fit than Pluto

  • Your central question is whether cloud assets are reachable and exploitable, not which AI tools employees are using.
  • You need one graph to connect identity, network reachability, vulnerabilities and misconfiguration across multiple clouds.
  • You want a low-touch initial rollout based on read-only access.

What Wiz does not replace

Wiz’s core value proposition is cloud-security context. It should not be assumed to discover every employee AI workspace, control prompts or enforce policies inside business productivity tools. If AI-tool usage is the primary risk, retain a dedicated workspace-governance capability or confirm an explicit feature match during evaluation.

Questions to ask in a Wiz evaluation

  • Which AWS, Azure and Google Cloud services are included in the edition under consideration?
  • How are attack paths ranked, suppressed and assigned to owners?
  • What additional sensors or modules are required for runtime visibility?
  • How are identity findings reconciled with your identity provider and ticketing system?

Orca Security: broad visibility with minimal deployment overhead

How its approach works

Orca Security’s SideScanning technology analyzes cloud workloads through snapshots and APIs without installing agents for core discovery. Its platform material also describes cloud-posture, workload and data protection, runtime sensors, a unified data model, dynamic risk scoring and attack-path analysis.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This combination is attractive when a lean team needs broad coverage quickly. Snapshot and API analysis can expose issues across accounts before a lengthy agent rollout, while optional runtime sensors provide deeper signals where passive inventory is not enough.

Where Orca is a better fit than Pluto

  • You need a consolidated view of posture, workloads and sensitive data across several cloud environments.
  • You want agentless discovery first but may add runtime telemetry later.
  • Your team needs dynamic scoring and attack paths to reduce a large finding backlog.

Trade-offs to examine

Snapshot-based analysis is not identical to continuous in-process telemetry. Confirm the freshness of findings, the interval at which snapshots are collected and which runtime detections require sensors. Also verify the Kubernetes controls you need rather than assuming that broad cloud coverage equals deep cluster protection.

Questions to ask in an Orca evaluation

  • Which data sources are covered by SideScanning, and what permissions are required?
  • What is the collection cadence for snapshots and APIs?
  • Which detections require runtime sensors, and how are those sensors deployed?
  • How does dynamic risk scoring incorporate business criticality and exploitability?

Prisma Cloud: broad enterprise CNAPP coverage

Why enterprises consider it

Palo Alto Networks positions Prisma Cloud as a comprehensive cloud-security platform spanning posture, workload, application and runtime controls. It is most compelling when an organization wants broad policy and compliance coverage and already operates other products in the same ecosystem.

The product page claims that Prisma Cloud analyzes 1 trillion events every 24 hours and that its Precision AI detects 1.5 million new attacks every day. These are vendor claims, not independent measurements; treat them as statements about the provider’s scale and detection system rather than as guaranteed outcomes for your environment.

Where Prisma Cloud is a better fit than Pluto

  • You need one enterprise platform spanning cloud posture, workload, application and runtime controls.
  • Compliance evidence, policy breadth and centralized governance are procurement requirements.
  • Your security architecture already uses Palo Alto integrations and you value a common operating model.

Potential drawbacks

A broad CNAPP can introduce more modules, configuration choices and licensing dependencies than a focused product. Establish which capabilities are included in the quoted edition, which require separate components and who will operate them. A platform can be technically comprehensive yet still leave an AI-workspace governance gap.

Questions to ask in a Prisma Cloud evaluation

  • Which CNAPP modules are included in the proposal, and which are optional?
  • How are policies translated into controls for your clouds, clusters and CI/CD systems?
  • What integrations are available for your existing Palo Alto deployment and identity stack?
  • How is compliance evidence exported for auditors and internal control owners?

FortiCNAPP: behavioral runtime detection

What differentiates it

FortiCNAPP, the current Fortinet portfolio name for the technology formerly associated with Lacework, emphasizes machine-learning behavioral analysis. The system establishes a baseline of normal workload behavior and surfaces deviations that may indicate compromise or abuse.

This approach is useful when the hardest problem is not finding a known misconfiguration but recognizing that a workload, identity or process is acting unlike its established pattern. It can add a runtime-focused layer to environments where static posture checks already exist.

When to choose it

  • Runtime anomaly detection is more important than an agentless-first rollout.
  • You need behavioral baselining for workloads and want deviations highlighted automatically.
  • Your organization is standardizing on Fortinet products and values portfolio integration.

Branding and packaging caution

Because the product has moved from the Lacework name into Fortinet’s portfolio, verify the current product name, contract entity, modules and support terms in your region. Do not assume that older Lacework documentation describes the current packaging.

Aqua Security: container and Kubernetes depth

Why cloud-native teams shortlist it

Aqua Security covers the container lifecycle from image scanning through runtime and also addresses virtual machines, Kubernetes and serverless workloads. Its tooling connects with CI/CD and developer workflows, making it a natural candidate when the security program is organized around images, registries, clusters and deployments.

Where Aqua is a better fit than Pluto

  • Kubernetes and container-runtime protection are the primary evaluation criteria.
  • Developers need security checks integrated into build and deployment pipelines.
  • You want to trace risk from an image or package into the running workload.

Limits of the comparison

Aqua’s specialization does not automatically provide Pluto-style discovery of employee AI-workspace use. It can secure the infrastructure and software supply chain that run AI applications, but governance of which consumer or business AI tools employees use is a separate requirement.

Questions to ask in an Aqua evaluation

  • Which Kubernetes distributions and managed services are supported in your target version?
  • What image registries, CI/CD systems and admission controls are included?
  • How are runtime findings connected to the originating image, package or deployment?
  • What controls cover serverless and virtual-machine workloads in addition to containers?

Which alternative is best for your specific situation?

Best for AWS, Azure and Google Cloud Platform

Wiz and Orca are the strongest starting points when the requirement is agentless, multi-cloud context. Wiz emphasizes a graph that links identity, exposure and vulnerabilities into attack paths. Orca emphasizes broad SideScanning coverage, a unified data model, dynamic risk scoring and optional runtime sensors. Run a proof of value in representative accounts rather than choosing on the word “multi-cloud” alone.

Best for a small cloud-security team

Start with Wiz if you want a read-only API connection and graph-based prioritization. Start with Orca if you want snapshot and API discovery plus the option to add runtime sensors. In either case, measure the analyst time needed to validate findings, assign owners and close issues—not just the number of assets discovered.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Best for a large regulated enterprise

Prisma Cloud is the most natural fit when compliance depth, broad control coverage and Palo Alto ecosystem integration outweigh the complexity of a larger platform. Require a module-by-module bill of materials and a demonstration of evidence collection for your specific frameworks.

Best for runtime anomalies

FortiCNAPP is the focused choice when behavioral baselining and deviation detection are central. Confirm how much of the required visibility comes from runtime telemetry, how long baselines take to become useful and how analysts investigate a flagged deviation.

Best for Kubernetes and container engineering

Aqua Security is the specialist option when image-to-runtime protection, cluster controls and developer pipeline integration are the core requirements. Validate support for your Kubernetes distribution, registry and deployment tooling before comparing feature checklists.

Best when the problem is employee AI-tool usage

None of these CNAPP alternatives should be assumed to replace Pluto’s workspace-governance focus. If the incident pattern involves employees pasting sensitive information into AI services, installing unapproved builder extensions or exposing MCP servers, define those use cases explicitly and test discovery, policy and enforcement end to end. A CNAPP may secure the cloud resources behind an AI application while leaving the employee workflow untouched.

Agentless versus sensor-based deployment

Deployment architecture affects time to value, coverage and operational effort.

Approach Strengths Questions and limitations
Read-only APIs Fast onboarding, no workload changes and broad inventory May not observe in-process behavior; permissions and service coverage must be checked
Snapshots and APIs Broad discovery without installing agents; useful for a lean team Freshness depends on collection cadence; runtime detail may require sensors
Runtime sensors Deeper behavioral and in-process telemetry Requires deployment, upgrades, resource planning and exception handling
Developer and CI/CD controls Moves detection earlier into image, code and deployment workflows Can create friction or alert volume unless ownership and policy exceptions are clear

Ask vendors to show the same application through each collection method: its identity permissions, network path, vulnerable package, data store and runtime process. That exercise reveals what is visible by default and what requires an additional component.

How to run a fair Pluto-alternative evaluation

  1. Define the primary risk. Separate employee AI-tool usage, cloud misconfiguration, software supply-chain exposure, runtime compromise and Kubernetes control gaps. A single scorecard can hide major differences between these problems.
  2. Inventory the environment. List AWS, Azure and Google Cloud accounts; regions; managed Kubernetes services; registries; CI/CD systems; identity providers; serverless workloads; and compliance frameworks.
  3. Set measurable acceptance tests. Examples include discovering all production accounts, identifying a known public storage exposure, tracing an overprivileged identity to a reachable workload, finding a vulnerable image and detecting an intentionally abnormal runtime action.
  4. Record deployment effort. Capture permissions, approvals, agent or sensor installation, network changes, upgrades and rollback steps. Include the time required from cloud, platform and developer teams.
  5. Score prioritization quality. Compare whether the product explains exploitability, reachability, identity context, data sensitivity and business ownership—not just how many findings it reports.
  6. Test remediation workflow. Verify ticket creation, ownership, evidence, suppression, exception expiry and retesting after a fix.
  7. Map compliance outputs. Ask for a sample report using your actual controls and confirm whether evidence is continuous, point-in-time or manually assembled.
  8. Price the complete operating model. Include modules, cloud accounts, workloads, users, data volume, sensors, support, implementation and renewal terms. Do not compare Pluto’s published contract figure with an assumed per-user or per-asset price from another vendor.
  9. Run a security and procurement review. Confirm data handling, retention, regional hosting, sub-processors, incident support, service-level terms and the legal entity named on the contract.

Pricing and procurement: what is actually public

Pluto’s AWS Marketplace listing is the only public figure in the supplied material: a $1,000,000 price for a 12-month contract, with contract-based pricing and no stated unit definition. It is not safe to interpret that number as a universal annual subscription, a per-user rate or a minimum for every buyer.

No equivalent public competitor pricing was identified for Wiz, Orca Security, Prisma Cloud, FortiCNAPP or Aqua Security. Their quotes can depend on cloud accounts, assets, workloads, users, modules, data volume, support and term length. Request an itemized quote that separates platform, add-ons, implementation and support.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Procurement question Why it matters
What is the billable unit? “Asset,” “workload,” “user,” “account” and “data volume” produce very different totals.
Which modules are mandatory? A low platform quote can increase after runtime, Kubernetes, data or compliance components are added.
Does coverage include development and production? Separate environments may be counted differently or require separate entitlements.
How are overages handled? Cloud growth, new accounts and seasonal workloads can change renewal costs.
What happens at renewal? Confirm price protections, notice periods, true-up rules and data export rights.

Common selection mistakes and how to avoid them

Choosing a CNAPP for an AI-workspace problem

If the risk is unsanctioned AI-tool usage or sensitive data leaving through an employee workflow, a cloud posture product may produce excellent infrastructure findings without addressing the event that concerns you. Put the workflow itself in the acceptance test.

Equating agentless with complete

Agentless access can accelerate inventory, but it may not provide process-level or continuous runtime signals. Ask exactly what is observed through APIs or snapshots and what requires a sensor.

Comparing marketing categories instead of controls

“AI security,” “CNAPP” and “runtime protection” cover different capabilities across vendors. Translate each claim into a testable control, owner and evidence source.

Ignoring operational ownership

A platform that finds thousands of issues without clear assignment, suppression and remediation paths can increase workload. Include analysts, cloud engineers, platform owners and developers in the evaluation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Using outdated product names

FortiCNAPP’s transition from Lacework illustrates why contract documents and current product pages matter. Verify branding, modules, support and partner terms immediately before purchase.

Decision checklist

  • Choose Wiz for fast, read-only, graph-based prioritization across major clouds.
  • Choose Orca Security for broad SideScanning visibility, unified risk context and optional runtime sensors.
  • Choose Prisma Cloud for enterprise CNAPP breadth, compliance controls and Palo Alto ecosystem alignment.
  • Choose FortiCNAPP for behavioral runtime detection and machine-learning baselines.
  • Choose Aqua Security for container and Kubernetes lifecycle depth.
  • Keep Pluto in the evaluation when employee AI-workspace discovery, contextual governance and real-time enforcement are the actual requirement.

The practical answer is often a layered design: a workspace-security control for employee AI use plus a CNAPP for cloud identities, workloads, data and runtime. Treat that as an architecture decision, not as a feature-count contest.
