If you want the best PC VR demos before Steam Next Fest, start with Rustmourne for sci-fi horror, The Rifted Skies for physical parkour, RAID VR for co-op action, and Interlocked: Puzzle Islands for a quiet puzzle session. These demos are available on Steam ahead of the October 19–26, 2026 event, whose participating list can still change before launch.
When Steam Next Fest October 2026 starts
Valve’s October Steam Next Fest is scheduled for October 19–26, 2026. Participating games expose playable demos through the event page, but Valve warns that the lineup may change until the festival begins. The shortlist below covers PC VR demos released before the event, so you can play them now rather than waiting for the festival page. UploadVR notes that its list is not exhaustive and that a fuller PC VR selection will appear when Next Fest opens.
Demo contents, availability and planned release windows can change when developers update their Steam pages. Treat map counts, classes, run limits and other scope details as descriptions of the current demos, not promises about the final games.

The eight demos worth installing first
Rustmourne: the horror and sci-fi pick
Rustmourne is a Dead Space-like sci-fi first-person shooter aimed at players who want oppressive environments and horror tension in VR. UploadVR reported more than 20,000 wishlists at the end of August 2026. The game is planned for early 2027, making the demo an early look at a project with substantial pre-release interest. Choose it when atmosphere and science-fiction horror matter more than multiplayer or freeform movement.

The Rifted Skies: a VR parkour demo
The Rifted Skies is built around physical, player-driven movement. You pump your arms and use parkour while trying to outrun a world-consuming rift. It is the clearest choice for readers searching for a VR parkour demo or a game that makes movement itself the central challenge. Expect a more active session than a conventional teleport-or-stick-movement shooter.
RAID VR: the co-op action recommendation
In RAID VR, players are intergalactic border-patrol agents. Teams inspect suspicious ships, board them and fight criminals, combining investigation beats with roguelite combat. Pick it when you need a co-op VR demo rather than a solo showcase. The available description does not specify a player count or a numerical mission limit, so confirm current multiplayer requirements on the Steam listing before arranging a group session.

Board of the Future: relaxed hoverboarding
Board of the Future takes a slower approach to futuristic hoverboarding. You perform tricks, unlock stages and choose boards with different characteristics. The demo deliberately offers only a limited selection of boards and maps, and some features remain under development. It suits players who want exploration and trick practice without the relentless combat of an arcade roguelite.

Hyperlane Highway turns hoverboarding into a combat-focused roguelite. You steer by leaning left or right, so body movement is part of navigation rather than a cosmetic gesture. Its demo contains one class, three environments and one boss fight, with playtime and the number of runs capped. That makes it a focused sampler for players who want replayable arcade combat while understanding that the available slice is intentionally limited.

Stuffed: Two Foot Hero: multiplayer wave defense
Stuffed: Two Foot Hero is a cooperative wave shooter in which a stuffed teddy bear protects a child from nightmares. The demo supports multiplayer, includes one map and provides the full weapon arsenal. It is the most straightforward recommendation for someone searching for a PC VR demo with multiplayer and a wave-based structure rather than a campaign or puzzle format.
Crashland: a difficult sci-fi survival shooter
Crashland casts you as a spaceship pilot who keeps crashing and must defend against alien creatures until rescue arrives. Weapons and temporary power-ups are airdropped during fights, while perks can be added between worlds. The Steam release is hybrid: it includes redesigned flatscreen controls as well as VR, but the demo supports VR. Choose it for escalating survival combat and build choices between encounters.

Interlocked: Puzzle Islands: the calmest option
Interlocked: Puzzle Islands is a serene puzzle experience rather than an action showcase. UploadVR’s 2026 review called it “In a medium that often prioritizes excitement, tension, horror, and dopamine drip, Interlocked: Puzzle Islands feels radical in its serenity.” The Steam release supports both mouse and keyboard and VR, so it is also a hybrid option for people who want to try the design without a headset.
How to choose the right demo
- Want horror? Install Rustmourne.
- Want physical movement? Choose The Rifted Skies for arm pumping and parkour.
- Want friends in the same session? Try RAID VR or Stuffed: Two Foot Hero.
- Want hoverboarding? Pick Board of the Future for relaxed tricks or Hyperlane Highway for combat runs.
- Want a difficult wave shooter? Choose Crashland.
- Want a low-intensity puzzle experience? Start with Interlocked: Puzzle Islands.
Readers comparing best SteamVR demos in October 2026 should also check whether a demo’s scope matches the desired session length. Hyperlane Highway explicitly caps playtime and runs; Board of the Future limits boards and maps; Stuffed: Two Foot Hero provides one map; and several other entries do not publish numerical scope in the available descriptions.

Hardware and compatibility
You need a PC-compatible VR headset and a gaming PC capable of running the selected Steam demo. Standalone headsets such as Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S can connect to a PC for PC VR, according to Tom’s Guide’s 2026 headset guide. Connection method and performance depend on the headset, cable or wireless network, and the individual game. Crashland and Interlocked: Puzzle Islands are hybrid releases with flatscreen controls, but the other recommendations are presented here as VR demos.
What may change before Next Fest
Steam Next Fest’s lineup can change up to launch, and developers may revise demo content, availability or release timing. UploadVR’s shortlist is not a complete catalog. Recheck each Steam page on or after October 19 if a demo is missing, a multiplayer mode behaves differently, or the listed maps, classes or run limits have changed.
