A large tablet can be a brilliant drawing canvas, portable cinema, split-screen workstation, or lightweight Windows PC. It can also become an expensive device that is too large to hold, has the wrong operating system for your apps, or costs far more once you add a keyboard and stylus.

For this guide, “large” means roughly 12 inches or larger. The 13-inch iPad Pro with M5 is the best all-round choice for demanding creative work, while the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra has the biggest screen and the most convincing Android multitasking setup. The iPad Air 13-inch is the sensible large iPad for most people, and the OnePlus Pad 3 delivers unusually strong Android performance for the money.

1. Apple iPad Pro 13-inch (M5): best overall large tablet

The 13-inch iPad Pro is the strongest choice when display quality, performance, portability, and creative apps all matter. Its M5 chip has more than enough performance for demanding photo and video work, 3D applications, high-end games, and large multitasking sessions. Storage goes up to 2TB, and Apple lists 12GB of unified memory on 256GB and 512GB models, with 16GB on higher-capacity versions.

The 13-inch Ultra Retina XDR display is the main reason to choose it over the iPad Air. It uses tandem OLED technology, supports ProMotion up to 120Hz, and provides the contrast and HDR impact that an LCD tablet cannot reproduce. Scrolling feels smooth, and the panel is particularly well suited to HDR video, illustration, and detailed image work.

#1 Best Overall
15.6 Inch Tablet, Android 16, Widevine L1, FHD IPS Display for Sheet Music
  • 【15.6" FHD IPS DISPLAY】 Enjoy clear viewing on a 15.6-inch IPS touchscreen with 1920 x 1080 FHD resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio. The spacious display is designed for digital sheet music, PDFs, online lessons, movies, video calls, and everyday home use.
  • 【ANDROID 16 & HELIO G99 PROCESSOR】 Powered by Android 16 and a Helio G99 octa-core processor, this large Android tablet supports smooth browsing, streaming, reading, split-screen viewing, and everyday app multitasking.
  • 【16GB MEMORY & 256GB STORAGE】 Includes 8GB physical RAM plus up to 8GB virtual memory expansion for smoother multitasking. The 256GB built-in storage holds apps, videos, photos, and downloaded music scores, with microSD expansion up to 1TB.
  • 【WIDEVINE L1 & QUAD SPEAKERS】 Widevine L1 DRM support enables HD playback on compatible streaming apps and content. The FHD IPS display and built-in quad speakers create an enjoyable setup for movies, concerts, tutorials, and family entertainment.
  • 【12000MAH BATTERY, 30W CHARGING】 The built-in 12000mAh battery supports extended reading, streaming, work, and travel use. Supports up to 30W PD fast charging with a compatible charger. This tablet uses Wi-Fi connectivity and does not support SIM cards or cellular networks.

Apple also includes modern connectivity: Wi-Fi 7 through its N1 wireless chip, with 5G available on cellular models using the C1X modem. Apple says a compatible high-wattage USB-C charger can take the tablet to 50% in approximately 30 minutes, although that charger is not necessarily included.

The compromise is price. The 13-inch Wi-Fi model starts at $1,499 in the US, before adding the Apple Pencil Pro or Magic Keyboard. It is also not a conventional macOS laptop replacement. iPadOS 26 has improved windowing and multitasking, but iPad versions of professional applications can still have different features, plug-in support, and file-management behavior from their Mac or Windows counterparts.

Buy it if: you want the best large tablet display and tablet hardware, especially for creative work, drawing, HDR video, or gaming.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Watch out for: older buying guides that call this an M4 iPad Pro. The current model uses the M5 chip; M4 describes the 2024 generation.

2. Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra: best large Android tablet

The Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra has the largest display in this group: a 14.6-inch AMOLED panel with a 2,960 × 1,848 resolution, 16:10 aspect ratio, and 120Hz refresh rate. That extra width is excellent for films, games, two-app layouts, and desktop-style work. It is visibly larger than a 13-inch iPad, though that also makes it less comfortable to hold unsupported for long periods.

Samsung’s DeX mode gives Android a desktop-like interface with resizable windows, a taskbar, and more familiar multitasking. It does not turn Android into Windows, but it is one of the better tablet productivity environments for people who want several apps visible at once. The included redesigned S Pen is a useful advantage for handwriting and annotation; Samsung’s keyboard accessories cost extra.

The tablet uses the MediaTek Dimensity 9400+, not a Snapdragon processor. It is fast enough for gaming, media, and normal productivity, but testing places it behind Apple’s M5 in CPU-heavy professional workloads. Available configurations include 12GB of RAM with 256GB or 512GB of storage, and 16GB with 1TB.

Its 11,600mAh battery, 45W wired charging, and IP68 dust and water resistance make it especially appealing for travel, outdoor use, and watching video around water. Samsung’s current US listing gives the 256GB model a $1,199.99 MSRP, although promotional pricing has recently fallen as low as $899.99. Treat that lower figure as a sale price rather than the normal cost.

Buy it if: you want the biggest screen, Android flexibility, excellent video playback, DeX multitasking, or an included stylus.

Watch out for: the 14.6-inch chassis is awkward without a stand or case, and cases or keyboards for the Tab S9 Ultra or S10 Ultra should not be assumed to fit the thinner S11 Ultra.

3. Apple iPad Air 13-inch (M4): best-value large iPad

The 13-inch iPad Air is the practical alternative to the Pro. Its M4 chip and 12GB of unified memory provide ample performance for office work, note-taking, illustration, video editing, gaming, and general use. Storage options are 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It is also lighter and thinner than many large tablets: the Wi-Fi version weighs 616 grams and is 6.1mm thick. The 13-inch Liquid Retina display provides a generous workspace without the Pro’s price, but it is still an LCD panel and does not have ProMotion. It runs at 60Hz, so users moving from a 120Hz iPad Pro will notice less fluid scrolling and animation.

Apple’s current US buy page lists the 13-inch model from $949. That is higher than the $799 launch price announced in March 2026, so check the live price before treating it as a bargain. Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil USB-C are supported but sold separately.

Buy it if: you want a large iPad for study, notes, illustration, media, and office tasks, but do not need an OLED display or 120Hz refresh rate.

Watch out for: the current model uses M4, not M3. The display, rather than the processor, is the main reason to spend more on the iPad Pro.

4. OnePlus Pad 3: best Android value for performance

The OnePlus Pad 3 is aimed at buyers who want flagship-level Android performance without paying Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra or iPad Pro money. Its Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform and Adreno 830 GPU make it a strong option for gaming, demanding apps, and fast general use.

The 13.2-inch LCD has a high 3,392 × 2,400 resolution, a productivity-friendly 7:5 aspect ratio, adaptive refresh up to 144Hz, and 600 nits of typical high-brightness output. OnePlus specifies up to 900 nits in high-brightness mode. The taller shape is better for documents and split-screen work than a 16:10 video-first display, although widescreen films may show more letterboxing.

Other hardware is generous: a 12,140mAh battery, up to 80W charging, and eight speakers consisting of four woofers and four tweeters. The listed US configuration has 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage. Its USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 port supports data speeds up to 5Gbps.

The LCD is the clear compromise. It cannot match the deep blacks and HDR contrast of the iPad Pro or Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra. The tablet also ships with Android 15 and OxygenOS 15 in the cited US specification, so buyers should check the expected software-support period if they plan to keep it for many years. The keyboard and Stylo 2 are separate accessories.

Buy it if: gaming, streaming, fast performance, and a large high-refresh display matter more than OLED quality or a mature desktop mode.

Watch out for: the advertised tablet price is not the price of a complete laptop-style setup once the keyboard and pen are added.

5. Lenovo Idea Tab Pro: best budget large tablet

The Lenovo Idea Tab Pro is the sensible low-cost choice when screen size matters more than top-end speed. Its 12.7-inch 3K display runs at 2,944 × 1,840 and is well suited to streaming, reading, light productivity, and student work.

It is a midrange Android tablet rather than a competitor to the M5 iPad Pro or Snapdragon 8 Elite OnePlus Pad 3. Lenovo’s US listing identifies Android 14, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.3. The stated 400-nit brightness is adequate indoors but less comfortable in bright outdoor conditions than the premium alternatives.

Model details need particular care when shopping. Lenovo sells regional configurations under similar Idea Tab Pro branding, and RAM, storage, wireless specifications, and included pen bundles can differ. Compare the exact model number rather than relying on a retailer’s shortened product name.

Buy it if: you want the largest practical screen at a lower price for video, reading, browsing, or schoolwork.

Watch out for: the dimmer display and midrange performance. It is not the right tool for demanding creative applications or heavy gaming.

6. Microsoft Surface Pro 12-inch: best large tablet for Windows

The Surface Pro is the outlier here. It is a Windows 11 2-in-1 PC with a detachable keyboard, not an iPad-style tablet running a mobile operating system. That makes it the best option when you need Microsoft 365 desktop applications, enterprise management tools, conventional PC peripherals, or a Windows-only application.

The 12-inch model uses an eight-core Snapdragon X Plus processor. Its touchscreen and kickstand make it usable as a tablet, but it makes the most sense with the keyboard attached. The keyboard and other accessories are sold separately, and fast charging requires a USB-C Power Delivery charger rated at 60W or higher; the charger may not be included in every configuration.

Battery figures need careful interpretation. Microsoft’s published results were measured on preproduction hardware and software in March 2025. Video-playback and web-browsing claims from different manufacturers use different brightness levels, workloads, and test conditions, so they should not be compared as if they were one standardized benchmark.

Windows on ARM has improved, but compatibility is still a possible failure point. Some applications, drivers, plug-ins, and games may not work correctly or may run through emulation with limitations. Check the software you rely on before buying.

Buy it if: Windows applications are non-negotiable and you want a detachable form factor.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Watch out for: ARM application compatibility and the added cost of the keyboard, charger, and other PC accessories.

Which large tablet should you buy?

  1. Choose the iPad Pro 13-inch for the best combination of screen quality, performance, drawing capability, and premium tablet design. It is the strongest choice for professional creative work, provided iPadOS has the applications and workflow you need.
  2. Choose the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra if a very large video-friendly display and Android multitasking are more important than maximum processor performance. The included S Pen improves its value.
  3. Choose the iPad Air 13-inch if you want iPadOS and Apple’s M-series performance without paying Pro prices. Accept its 60Hz LCD display.
  4. Choose the OnePlus Pad 3 for the best performance-focused Android value. It is particularly compelling for games and media, but its LCD is not OLED.
  5. Choose the Lenovo Idea Tab Pro when your priority is a large screen at a lower cost and your workload is mainly browsing, reading, streaming, and light productivity.
  6. Choose the Surface Pro only when Windows desktop software is the deciding factor. It is a PC replacement first and a casual tablet second.

What to check before buying a large tablet

1. Measure the real working size

A 14.6-inch tablet is not merely a slightly bigger 13-inch model. It is wider, heavier, and more dependent on a case or stand. Large tablets are usually most comfortable on a desk, lap, or keyboard cover. If you expect to read in bed or hold the device one-handed, a 12.7- or 13-inch model is generally more manageable.

2. Compare the complete setup price

Apple Pencil Pro, Magic Keyboard, Samsung keyboards, the OnePlus Stylo 2, and Surface keyboards are separate purchases unless a particular bundle says otherwise. A tablet that appears cheaper can approach flagship pricing after adding the accessories needed for handwriting and laptop-style work.

3. Match the screen to the content

OLED models—the iPad Pro and Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra—offer superior black levels and HDR contrast. LCD models can still be excellent for documents and everyday use. Aspect ratio matters too: Samsung’s 16:10 panel favors widescreen video, while the 7:5 OnePlus display and squarer iPad proportions waste less space on documents and multitasking.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

4. Check the software before checking benchmark scores

iPadOS offers strong tablet apps but does not behave exactly like macOS. Android and DeX provide flexibility and windowed multitasking, but Android versions of desktop applications may be less complete. Surface Pro runs Windows applications, but ARM compatibility must be verified. The best processor cannot compensate for software that does not support your workflow.

5. Verify the exact configuration

Storage, memory, cellular connectivity, regional model numbers, included pens, and sale pricing vary. This is particularly important for the Lenovo Idea Tab Pro and for Samsung storage tiers. Confirm the manufacturer model number and the contents of the box before comparing two retailer listings.

FAQ

What is the biggest tablet in this guide?

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra has the largest display at 14.6 inches. Apple’s largest current iPad is the 13-inch iPad Pro; Apple does not currently sell a 14- or 15-inch iPad.

Which large tablet has the best display?

The iPad Pro 13-inch and Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra are the strongest display choices because both use OLED panels with 120Hz refresh rates. The iPad Pro is especially strong for HDR work, while Samsung offers more physical screen area and a widescreen 16:10 shape.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is the Surface Pro a tablet or a laptop?

It is a Windows 11 2-in-1 PC with a detachable keyboard. It can be used as a tablet, but its main advantage is access to Windows desktop applications rather than a simpler mobile-tablet experience.

Which large tablet is best for value?

The 13-inch iPad Air is the best value for buyers who want Apple’s software and M4 performance. The OnePlus Pad 3 is the stronger Android performance value, while the Lenovo Idea Tab Pro is the budget choice for less demanding work.

The Bottom Line

The 13-inch iPad Pro (M5) is the best large tablet overall, but it is only the right purchase if iPadOS supports your workflow and you can absorb the accessory costs. The Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra is better for a huge Android screen, DeX multitasking, and included-pen value. For most buyers who want a large iPad without the Pro premium, choose the 13-inch iPad Air (M4). If price and Android performance come first, the OnePlus Pad 3 is the more compelling alternative.
