If you want another first-person puzzle game after The Talos Principle, start with Portal 2 for physics-driven chambers and story, The Witness for exploration and puzzles learned through observation, or Superliminal for perspective-based spatial surprises. Each offers a different kind of follow-up; none should be treated as a direct substitute for The Talos Principle’s philosophical science-fiction setting.
Which game should you play next?
| Game | Best match if you want… | Puzzle structure | Story and play style |
|---|---|---|---|
| Portal 2 | Designed chambers, physics puzzles, comedy, or co-op | Test chambers and puzzle elements | Single-player campaign plus a separate two-player co-op campaign |
| The Witness | Exploration and figuring out rules by watching and experimenting | Puzzles across an island, introducing ideas as you progress | Solo exploration and discovery |
| Superliminal | Spatial surprises and a fresh puzzle mechanic | Forced perspective and optical illusions | Single-player progression through a surreal dream world |
These comparisons reflect the games’ official Steam descriptions and tags, not a claim that they have been comparatively playtested. If playing with someone is the priority, Portal 2 is the clear choice in this group because its listing specifies a dedicated co-op campaign.
Portal 2: for chambers, story, and co-op
Portal 2 is the closest fit if what you enjoyed was solving carefully staged problems in a first-person environment. Valve describes its single-player campaign as adding puzzle elements, characters, and a larger set of test chambers. The puzzles center on physics and manipulating the environment, while the narrative gives the challenges a comic frame. The separate two-player co-op campaign has its own story and challenges, so it is more than a second player joining the solo campaign.

The Witness: for exploration and learning by observation
The Witness trades enclosed chambers for a connected island. Its puzzles introduce ideas that you learn to recognize and apply, making observation and inference central to progress. Thekla’s Steam description says the game contains “over 500 puzzles”; that is the developer’s product-description figure, not an independently measured count.
This is the strongest fit if you want to explore at your own pace and discover a visual puzzle language. Its format is quite different from the devices and chambers in The Talos Principle, and its appeal rests more on exploration and discovery than on a continuous character-driven story. See The Witness on Steam for current product details.

Superliminal: for perspective and spatial tricks
Superliminal builds its puzzles around forced perspective and optical illusions. Objects can change how they fit into a space depending on how they appear from your viewpoint, prompting you to reconsider the room rather than simply search it for a conventional solution. Pillow Castle’s Steam description calls it “a first-person puzzle game based on forced perspective and optical illusions.”
Pick it if the most appealing part of a follow-up is encountering an unusual spatial rule. Its surreal dream setting and perspective-focused puzzles offer a distinct experience, not a close match for The Talos Principle’s philosophical science fiction. See Superliminal on Steam for current product details.

What about Manifold Garden and SUPERHOT?
Steam’s official “First Person Puzzle Bundle” listing includes Manifold Garden and SUPERHOT alongside The Talos Principle, The Witness, and Superliminal. That makes them reasonable titles to investigate if you want to broaden your search, but the bundle listing alone does not establish their specific mechanics, platform details, or current availability. This article therefore does not rank them against the three recommendations above.
