The best all-round Fairbuds 2 setup is simple: use Google Fast Pair for the initial connection, leave dual multipoint on only if you regularly switch between two devices, start with one of the four Fairbuds app presets, and use a five-band custom EQ only when a preset does not fit your listening. Keep ANC off when battery life matters most; turn ANC on for noisy travel or offices, and use ambient mode when you need to hear what is around you.
Fairbuds 2 supports Bluetooth 6.0, can save up to six devices, and can keep two devices active. Fairphone rates the earbuds for up to 8 hours with ANC off, up to 6 hours with ANC on, and up to 40 hours including the charging case. The Fairbuds app is optional for basic Bluetooth pairing, but it provides the EQ and sound-mode controls.

Fast Pair for the first connection
- Open Bluetooth settings on the phone or tablet you want to use.
- Put the earbuds into their pairing state according to the supplied Fairbuds 2 quick-start guide.
- When a Google Fast Pair prompt appears, select the Fairbuds 2 entry and follow the on-screen confirmation.
- Play a short track to verify that audio is coming from the earbuds before connecting additional devices.
Fast Pair is a convenience layer, not a requirement. If the prompt does not appear, use the operating system’s normal Bluetooth device list.
When to enable dual multipoint
Dual multipoint is useful when you move between two active sources, such as a phone and a laptop. Fairbuds 2 can save up to six devices while maintaining two active connections, so you can keep a larger collection of remembered devices without pairing from scratch each time.
Enable or retain multipoint if you need that two-device workflow. For a single-phone setup, avoiding multipoint is a reasonable simplicity choice: fewer active connection decisions can make the behavior easier to understand. Fairphone does not publish a controlled battery-saving figure for disabling multipoint, so do not treat it as a measured runtime improvement.
Adding several devices without losing control
- Pair the first device and confirm playback.
- Temporarily pause audio before pairing the next device; this makes it easier to identify which source currently has the audio route.
- Repeat until the devices you use regularly are saved.
- Keep only the two devices you actively switch between connected at the same time when using multipoint.
Saving a device and keeping it active are different things. A remembered device can remain available for later reconnection without being one of the two current connections.
Bluetooth pairing problems and recovery
If Fairbuds 2 appears in Bluetooth but will not connect, or if the phone connects to an old, unresponsive entry, reset the relationship from the phone before trying again.

- Open the phone’s Bluetooth settings.
- Select the Fairbuds entry and choose the operating system’s Forget, Remove, or Unpair command.
- Check that the earbuds are not still connected to another active device. If multipoint is in use, temporarily disconnect the other source.
- Put the earbuds back into pairing mode using the button sequence in the Fairbuds 2 quick-start guide.
- Pair again from the Bluetooth list, or accept Google Fast Pair if it appears.
This approach removes a stale pairing record instead of repeatedly attempting the same failed connection. The exact physical-button sequence should come from the Fairbuds 2 guide, because the recovery procedure is model-specific.
If audio keeps switching to the wrong device
- Pause playback on the device you are not using.
- Disconnect that device temporarily when you need an uninterrupted session.
- For a one-source routine, avoid multipoint so only the intended device competes for the connection.
These steps change connection priority; they do not erase the other saved devices.
Choosing and customizing the Fairbuds 2 EQ
The Fairbuds app for iOS and Android provides four prepared EQ presets and a five-band adjustable equalizer. Presets are the fastest way to get a repeatable sound, while custom EQ is useful when you have a particular preference that the prepared options do not match.
Start with a preset
- Install or open the Fairbuds app on iOS or Android.
- Connect Fairbuds 2 in the app.
- Open the equalizer control and audition the four prepared presets with familiar material.
- Keep the preset that best fits your normal listening instead of changing modes for every track.
Use a song, podcast segment, or spoken recording you know well. Familiar material makes it easier to notice whether a preset changes bass weight, vocal presence, or high-frequency emphasis without confusing a new recording with a better setting.
When a five-band custom EQ is better
Choose custom EQ when you can describe the change you want: more low-end weight, clearer voices, less brightness, or a different balance for speech. Adjust one band at a time, listen for long enough to judge the change, and save only a small number of profiles you will actually use.

A practical custom-EQ workflow
- Begin from the preset that is closest to your preference, or from a neutral-sounding starting point if the app provides one.
- Change one of the five bands, then replay the same short passage.
- Stop when the intended improvement is audible without making another part of the recording distracting.
- Save the profile with a clear name such as Music, Speech, or Bass-light.
- Return to the preset or previous profile if you find yourself making larger changes on every track.
There is no published Fairphone numeric EQ curve that should be treated as universal. Ear shape, fit, source material, and personal hearing all affect the result, so a small, repeatable adjustment is more useful than a complicated profile that works only once.
ANC, ambient mode, and ANC off
Fairbuds 2 gives you three practical noise-control choices. ANC reduces outside noise, ambient mode deliberately lets surrounding sound through, and ANC off removes the noise-control processing. The right choice depends on whether isolation, awareness, or runtime is your priority.
Use ANC off for the longest rated runtime
Fairphone rates Fairbuds 2 for up to 8 hours of earbud playback with ANC off. Choose this mode for quiet rooms, routine desk listening, or any session where you want the longest published single-charge figure.
Use ANC in sustained noise
With ANC on, Fairphone’s rating is up to 6 hours. That shorter figure is the trade-off for reducing steady environmental noise, making ANC appropriate for noisy public transport, aircraft cabins, busy offices, or similar surroundings where isolation improves concentration or listening comfort.

Use ambient mode when awareness matters
Ambient mode is the awareness option: it lets you monitor nearby sound without removing the earbuds. Common mistakes to avoid
Leaving multipoint on without needing it
Multipoint is valuable for two-device switching, but it is not automatically the best choice for a single-device listener. Disable or avoid it for a simpler one-source routine, while recognizing that Fairphone has not published a measured battery benefit for doing so.
Searching for exact EQ frequencies that are not published
