Lens in Maps extends that idea into location discovery. Google’s May 15, 2024 geospatial AR announcement described AR content discoverable through Google Maps, Street View, and Lens in Maps. Google described the initial program as an early-access pilot beginning in Singapore and Paris.
That 2024 announcement should not be rewritten as “Google Maps AR navigation was available throughout the United States.” Coverage, naming, language, account requirements, device behavior, and availability can vary. Conventional map navigation, camera-overlay directions, and location-linked AR content are related but not identical experiences.
