There is no developer-confirmed “best” sensitivity preset for ARC Raiders. The most reliable approach is to start from a comfortable baseline, separate mouse-and-keyboard adjustments from controller adjustments, and change one control at a time while testing quick turns and target tracking. Weapon aim settings govern looking, zooming and aiming; the Grappling Hook is a traversal item, not a weapon-aim mode, and the official material does not prescribe a special grapple sensitivity.

This guide covers the current menu concepts, a repeatable way to tune them, ADS hold versus toggle, and how to use the Grappling Hook without confusing it with the older Snap Hook. Menu labels and bindings can change after patches, so confirm the wording and button prompt shown in your own game.

What “best settings” means in ARC Raiders

A good setup is the one that lets you make the same movement or aim correction repeatedly. A faster sensitivity can make a 180-degree turn easier, while a slower sensitivity can make small corrections easier. Neither is universally superior, and the official sources do not publish a tested number that wins for every player, mouse, controller, display or play style.

Use the game’s current default as your reference point. Record it before changing anything, then evaluate one slider or option at a time. If a change improves quick turns but makes tracking inconsistent, it is not an improvement for your play style; revert it and test a smaller change instead.

Mouse and keyboard versus controller settings

ARC Raiders exposes separate PC mouse-and-keyboard controls and controller controls. Do not copy a value from one input method to the other: their menus and scales are not interchangeable. The community-maintained settings reference lists the following PC fields, but its labels and values should be checked against the live game after updates.

ARC Raiders Wiki’s settings reference is useful for locating fields, while the game itself is the authority for the controls currently available to your account.

Input method Controls to look for What to tune
Mouse and keyboard Horizontal sensitivity Left-right camera speed during general look and weapon aiming.
Mouse and keyboard Vertical sensitivity Up-down camera speed. Test it separately if vertical corrections feel too fast or too slow.
Mouse and keyboard Zoom sensitivity Camera speed while zoomed or aiming down sights, where the game exposes that control.
Controller Controller sensitivity controls Use the controller section and its own scale; do not assume the PC values have the same meaning.

The settings reference establishes that these categories exist; it does not establish an objectively optimal number. A third-party PC guide from October 30, 2025 offers subjective keybind and mouse suggestions, but it predates the October 2026 Frozen Trail update and is not an Embark performance test. Treat it as an example of one PC configuration, not a universal preset: GameSpot’s PC guide.

A repeatable process for finding your aim settings

These steps give you a way to tune any available sensitivity scale without pretending that an unverified number is “best.” Keep a short note of every change so you can return to the last consistent setup.

  1. Save the baseline. Write down horizontal, vertical and zoom values, along with your ADS mode and any changed bindings. If the menu provides a reset option, know where it is before experimenting.
  2. Choose one input profile. Tune mouse and keyboard while using that input, or tune controller while using a controller. Do not alternate between devices during the same comparison.
  3. Start with general look. Leave horizontal and vertical at the game’s default initially, or set them to the same value if you have already changed them and need a neutral reference. Make a series of ordinary turns, then a fast turn toward a new direction. The goal is repeatability, not maximum speed.
  4. Test horizontal and vertical separately. If left-right turns overshoot while looking up and down feels controlled, adjust horizontal only. If vertical corrections are the problem, adjust vertical only. Change a small amount, then repeat the same movement.
  5. Evaluate zoom sensitivity after general look. Test a distant target and a target that requires a small correction while zoomed. A lower zoom value may feel easier for fine tracking; a higher value may make larger corrections quicker. Keep whichever produces more consistent corrections for you.
  6. Use the same test twice. Perform a quick-turn test and a tracking test after every change. Retain a change only when it improves the task you care about without making the other task unreliable.
  7. Stop when the result is stable. Once you can repeat both movements, avoid changing several controls at once. Multiple simultaneous changes make it impossible to tell which one helped or hurt.

This method is a practical tuning procedure, not a claim of a controlled test by the author. It is designed to prevent a common mistake: selecting a very fast setting because a single turn felt impressive, then discovering that small target corrections are inconsistent.

Choosing a starting direction: faster turns or finer tracking

Use your most frequent failure as the deciding signal:

  • You turn past opponents or struggle with small corrections: lower the relevant general or zoom sensitivity slightly, then repeat both tests.
  • You cannot turn far enough before an encounter changes direction: raise horizontal sensitivity in a small step and retest tracking immediately.
  • Horizontal aim feels fine but vertical aim feels disconnected: adjust vertical sensitivity alone rather than changing every value.
  • General look is comfortable but zoomed aim is unstable: change zoom sensitivity only.
  • Both tasks are inconsistent: return to the recorded baseline and make one smaller change at a time.

These are decision rules, not promised performance gains. The right endpoint depends on your movement habits, input device, desk or stick range, and comfort.

ADS hold versus toggle

Embark’s December 16, 2025 Cold Snap patch notes confirm that a toggle Aim Down Sights option was added: official patch notes. The notes do not say that hold or toggle is more accurate, so choose based on comfort, accessibility and how you prefer to control the aim state.

Hold ADS

With hold, you press and keep holding the assigned control while aiming. It can feel direct when you want the sight state to end as soon as you release the control, but it requires continuous finger pressure. Check the current menu label and binding rather than relying on a remembered button from an earlier patch.

Toggle ADS

With toggle, one press enters ADS and another press exits it. This can reduce the need to hold a button, but it requires remembering the current state. Practice entering and leaving ADS in a safe area before judging it during a fight.

How the Grappling Hook fits into aiming

Embark describes the new Grappling Hook as a traversal tool rather than a weapon-aim modifier. The official Frozen Trail preview says: “That’s where the Grapple Hook comes in, letting you climb hard to reach spots, abseil off buildings, and swing over large gaps.” Read the full preview at Embark’s Frozen Trail content preview.

That description explains why aim sensitivity should not be presented as a grapple-specific setting. Your look and weapon-aim controls may affect how the camera feels while you orient yourself, but the official documentation does not provide a Grappling Hook sensitivity value, a special aiming curve or a definitive button sequence that applies to every platform.

Practical Grappling Hook setup

  1. Equip the correct item. Confirm that the inventory slot contains the new Grappling Hook and not the Snap Hook. Their names and behavior are distinct.
  2. Read the live prompt. Face the intended route and use the interaction prompt shown by your current platform. Do not copy a keyboard key or controller button from an old video without checking your bindings.
  3. Practice the three documented uses. Try climbing to a hard-to-reach spot, abseiling off a building and swinging over a large gap, matching the situations described in Embark’s preview.
  4. Keep aim tuning separate. If the camera feels too fast or too slow while lining up a route, test general look or zoom sensitivity in the normal aim practice described earlier. Do not label that change a grapple setting.
  5. Verify after patches. If the prompt disappears or a control no longer works, open the current controls menu and inspect the item binding before changing sensitivity.

Because no primary source establishes a universal grapple input sequence, this approach deliberately tells you to follow the prompt in your edition and platform instead of inventing a button-by-button recipe.

Do not confuse the Grappling Hook with the Snap Hook

The October 8, 2026 Frozen Trail 2.0 update introduced the Grappling Hook and separately changed the pre-existing Snap Hook. Embark says the design goal was to distinguish the Snap Hook as a burst-mobility gadget from the new Grappling Hook. The update lists these Snap Hook changes:

Snap Hook attribute Before the October 8, 2026 update After the update
Range 20 m 18 m
Durability consumed per use 2% 4%
Power cost 50 60

Those figures apply to the Snap Hook only; they are not Grappling Hook specifications. The official update is available at Embark’s Frozen Trail 2.0 update notes. If a guide uses the Snap Hook’s range, durability or power numbers to describe the Grappling Hook, it is mixing two items.

Keybinds and control checks before a session

Settings work only when the action is reachable and unambiguous. Before a serious session, open the controls menu and check:

  • The current ADS action and whether it is set to hold or toggle.
  • The binding or prompt for the equipped Grappling Hook on your input device.
  • Whether a recent patch restored a default binding or changed a menu label.
  • Whether a second action shares the same key or button in a way that could interrupt your intended input.
  • That you are testing with the same device whose settings you edited.

The exact labels can change as the game is patched. The December 2025 ADS addition and the October 2026 item update are evidence that older screenshots and guides may not match the current menu, so verify the live interface first.

Practice drills that reveal a bad setting

Quick-turn drill

Stand in a repeatable location, look at a fixed reference, turn toward a second reference, and return to the first. Repeat several times without changing the setting. If your endpoint varies widely, the sensitivity may be too high for your control range, or your input may need more practice. Lowering a value is an option, not a guaranteed fix.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Tracking drill

Follow a moving target or a predictable moving reference with the reticle. Pay attention to whether you repeatedly correct past the target. If you do, reduce only the sensitivity that controls the relevant aim phase, then repeat the same drill.

Zoom-transition drill

Alternate between general look and zoomed aiming. A large change in perceived speed can indicate that zoom sensitivity needs its own adjustment. Change only that field and test again.

Traversal-orientation drill

Equip the Grappling Hook, identify a climb, an abseil route and a gap, and practice orienting the camera before activating the item. This tests your familiarity with the prompt and route without claiming that a particular sensitivity value improves grapple success.

Troubleshooting common problems

“My aim is too fast after a patch.”

Check whether the game restored defaults or changed a menu scale. Compare the live values with your saved baseline, then retest horizontal, vertical and zoom controls separately. Do not assume a Grappling Hook update changed weapon sensitivity unless the current patch notes or menu say so.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

“The setting feels fine while looking but wrong while zoomed.”

Leave general look unchanged and adjust zoom sensitivity only. Test both a large correction and a fine correction before keeping the change.

“I cannot find the ADS toggle.”

The option was documented in the December 16, 2025 Cold Snap notes, but menu labels can move. Search the current controls or gameplay options for Aim Down Sights and inspect the binding. If your edition does not show the option, use the mode currently provided rather than relying on an old screenshot.

“The grapple prompt or action is missing.”

Confirm that the Grappling Hook is equipped, inspect the current platform binding and check the on-screen prompt at the location where you want to use it. If the prompt still does not appear, restart the activity or consult the latest official update information; do not substitute Snap Hook statistics or an unverified key sequence.

“I keep changing everything and cannot tell what helped.”

Restore the recorded baseline, choose one variable and run the same quick-turn and tracking tests. Keep a written note of the result after each change.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A practical setup checklist

  1. Identify whether you are tuning mouse and keyboard or controller.
  2. Record current horizontal, vertical and zoom values.
  3. Choose hold or toggle ADS for comfort and keep it fixed during testing.
  4. Run a quick-turn test and a tracking test at the baseline.
  5. Change one sensitivity control by a small amount.
  6. Repeat both tests and keep the change only if control is more consistent.
  7. Equip the Grappling Hook and verify the live prompt and binding.
  8. Practice climbing, abseiling and swinging as described by Embark.
  9. Confirm that any range, durability or power figures you read refer to the Snap Hook, not the Grappling Hook.
  10. Recheck the menu after major patches.

The result is a personal, reproducible setup rather than a falsely universal preset. The official sources identify the available control categories and the Grappling Hook’s traversal role, but they do not publish a single best sensitivity or grapple-specific aim value.
