For a bright room with seats spread across a sofa, start with the Samsung QN90F. Samsung explicitly lists both Glare-Free anti-reflection and Wide Viewing Angle, making it the closest feature-for-feature answer to the Hisense U7’s weaknesses.
Choose the TCL QM8K if you value maximum HDR brightness and price more than proven off-axis consistency. Choose the LG G5 OLED for a premium wide-angle picture, provided the price and OLED usage limits fit your household. Choose the Sony X90L when Sony’s motion processing and upscaling matter more than the strongest glare control.
Quick recommendations
| Model | Best fit | Bright-room approach | Viewing-angle evidence | Main qualification |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung QN90F | Bright rooms with windows, lamps and multiple seats | Glare-Free treatment plus high brightness | Samsung lists Wide Viewing Angle | Matte-style anti-reflection can look different from a glossy screen; verify the exact regional model |
| TCL QM8K | Maximum HDR impact and strong value | Very high measured HDR peak and effective anti-reflection under overhead lights | No directly comparable manufacturer wide-angle feature was established | Check off-axis contrast and color at your intended seating positions |
| LG G5 OLED | Premium picture quality for a wide seating layout | OLED contrast with an anti-reflective coating | OLED panels generally retain color well off-axis | Higher cost, variable full-screen brightness and static-image precautions |
| Sony X90L | Motion, upscaling and Sony processing | Good conventional LED brightness, but not the strongest glare solution here | Sony lists X-Wide Angle on the cited 85-inch specification | Panel behavior can vary by size; check the exact SKU |
These are not four versions of the same television. The QN90F is the most complete match for both requirements; the QM8K maximizes brightness; the G5 prioritizes premium image quality and off-axis consistency; and the X90L prioritizes processing. Your room and seating arrangement should decide which trade-off matters.

Why a brighter TV is not automatically better in a sunny room
Room light creates two separate problems. A television must overcome ambient light with its own luminance, and it must prevent windows or lamps from appearing as distracting shapes on the screen. Peak HDR brightness addresses the first problem. Screen coating and panel reflectance address the second.

A set can produce spectacular highlights in a test window yet still show a bright ceiling lamp across dark scenes. Conversely, a good anti-reflective surface can keep a picture readable even when its peak brightness is lower. Evaluate both characteristics rather than using a single “nits” number as a bright-room score.
Peak, sustained and full-screen brightness
Peak HDR results are usually measured with a small white window, often 10% of the screen. That represents a highlight such as a sun glint or explosion, not an entire football field or a white webpage. Sustained and full-screen brightness can be lower because the television limits power and heat.
Measurements also change with picture mode, test pattern, firmware, window size and meter technique. The figures below are therefore useful within their stated tests, not a universal ranking across every size and review.
Reflection control in practical use
TechRadar found the QM8K’s anti-reflection screen effective under bright overhead lights. Samsung says its QN90F Glare-Free technology is intended to keep the view clear and vibrant. Hisense describes the U7 Series as having an “Anti-Reflection Screen” for sunny rooms, so replacing a U7 should not be based on brightness alone: compare how each surface handles your specific windows and light fixtures.
Brightness measurements and what they mean
| Television | Reported HDR brightness | Test condition | How to use the figure |
|---|---|---|---|
| TCL QM8K | 3,332 nits | 10% window, Tom’s Guide comparison, 2025 | Strong evidence for intense HDR highlights; it does not establish the widest viewing angle |
| Samsung QN90F | 2,109 nits | 10% window, Tom’s Guide comparison, 2025 | High brightness paired with Samsung’s stated glare and wide-angle features |
| Hisense U8QG comparator | 3,685 nits | 10% window, Tom’s Guide comparison, 2025 | A comparator result, not a claim about the U7 or any replacement’s normal brightness |
| Hisense U7SG | 2,866.9 nits | 10% window, Tom’s Guide review, 2026 | Shows why U7-family performance varies by generation and region; confirm the model suffix |
The QM8K measured brighter than the QN90F in that Tom’s Guide comparison, while the QN90F remains the more direct recommendation when glare and seating angle are equally important. Do not treat the U8QG comparator or the later U7SG result as measurements of every U7 sold in every country.

Samsung QN90F: the clearest all-round replacement
The QN90F is the starting point when people on the ends of a sofa need a picture that remains usable and a window is visible from the screen. Samsung’s product information explicitly lists Glare-Free and Wide Viewing Angle. Its 2025 Neo QLED range uses Quantum Matrix Mini LEDs and Glare-Free technology, according to Samsung’s launch material.
Why it suits bright, wide rooms
- The anti-reflection treatment targets distracting light sources rather than relying only on more backlight power.
- The stated wide-angle feature addresses color and contrast loss for seats that are not directly in front of the panel.
- Mini-LED local dimming provides a high-contrast HDR image while retaining the brightness advantage of an LED television.
- Tom’s Guide measured 2,109 nits HDR brightness at a 10% window in its 2025 comparison.
- The same testing reported 9.5 ms input lag, useful for responsive console and PC gaming.
Trade-offs to check before buying
A glare-reducing matte or semi-matte appearance can make reflections less obvious, but some viewers prefer the richer perceived blacks and specular “pop” of a glossy surface in a dark room. Look at the QN90F in your normal lighting if possible. Also confirm the local model number, because features, tuners and available sizes can differ by country.
TCL QM8K: the high-brightness and value choice
The QM8K is the strongest candidate when your priority is HDR impact per dollar and you are willing to verify off-axis behavior yourself. Tom’s Guide measured 3,332 nits at a 10% HDR window in its 2025 comparison, higher than the QN90F’s 2,109-nit result in that same test. TechRadar also found its anti-reflection screen effective beneath bright overhead lighting.
Where it excels
- Very bright HDR highlights remain visible when daytime light washes out less capable sets.
- Anti-reflection performance can help with ceiling fixtures and open-plan lighting.
- The value proposition is attractive for buyers who want a large screen without moving to a premium OLED price tier.
- Mini-LED backlighting and local dimming support strong contrast for movies and games.
Why the angle decision is separate
High brightness does not guarantee stable color and contrast from the side. The available evidence establishes the QM8K’s brightness and practical reflection handling, but not a manufacturer wide-angle feature equivalent to Samsung’s stated specification. Sit at the farthest planned position and check a dark scene, a skin-tone close-up and a saturated sports graphic. If blacks turn gray or colors fade noticeably, a QN90F or OLED model may be a better fit even if the QM8K is brighter straight on.
LG G5 OLED: the premium wide-seating option
The G5 is the premium choice when consistent off-axis color, deep blacks and overall picture quality matter more than purchase price. TechRadar includes the G5 among 2025 televisions with effective anti-reflective coatings and describes modern OLED premium sets as viable bright-room options.

Advantages for a wide sofa
- OLED pixels emit light individually, so dark scenes do not depend on a separate backlight viewed through an angle.
- Color and contrast generally remain more consistent across a wide seating arc than on many conventional LED panels.
- There is no haloing around bright subtitles or stars caused by a coarse local-dimming zone structure.
- Fast pixel response supports clear motion in games and films.
Bright-room and ownership cautions
An anti-reflective coating reduces reflections, but it cannot eliminate a window directly opposite the screen. OLED brightness can also vary between a small HDR highlight and a large white scene; compare sustained full-screen performance if you watch daytime sports, news or computer content. Static logos, desktop interfaces and game HUDs call for sensible varied-content habits. Confirm the current price, warranty terms and the exact size before treating the G5 as a universal upgrade.
Sony X90L: choose processing and motion first
The X90L is a credible alternative when Sony’s image processing, motion handling and upscaling are the reasons you prefer Sony televisions. RTINGS’ comparison updated September 9, 2026 places the Hisense U7N slightly ahead overall but close to the Sony X90L/X90CL, so the X90L should be viewed as a side-grade with different strengths rather than an automatic replacement.
What it does well
- Sony processing is particularly relevant for lower-resolution streams, broadcast channels and older films.
- Motion handling can be more important than peak brightness for sports and panning camera shots.
- Sony documents X-Wide Angle on the cited 85-inch X90L specification page.
Size-specific caution
Do not assume that the 85-inch panel specification applies to every X90L size. Panel technology and viewing-angle behavior can change with screen size and region. Check the exact diagonal and suffix in the manufacturer specification before ordering, especially if wide seating is the reason for the purchase.
Viewing-angle performance: what to inspect
“Wide viewing angle” can describe several outcomes: retaining brightness, preserving color saturation, keeping blacks dark, or simply avoiding a distorted image. A television may perform well in one category and poorly in another.
Three practical checks
- Black-level check: Play a letterboxed film scene or a dark game menu and move to the farthest seat. Watch whether black areas become gray.
- Color check: Use a face close-up, a red sports jersey and a green landscape. Look for desaturation or a shift toward pale, cool tones.
- Highlight check: Use subtitles or small white objects against black. Excessive blooming or loss of brightness at an angle indicates that local dimming is not holding up for that seat.
Perform the checks with the room lights and curtains in their normal daytime positions. A showroom’s bright, colorful demo loop can hide angle and reflection problems.

Motion, upscaling, gaming and HDR support
Brightness and viewing angle are the headline requirements, but they should not erase the source material you watch.
Motion and upscaling
Choose the X90L if broadcast, streaming compression and older 1080p material dominate your viewing and you value Sony’s processing. The QN90F and QM8K are stronger fits when HDR games and high-impact streaming content dominate. The G5 is compelling for film and gaming enthusiasts who value OLED response and contrast.
Gaming latency
The QN90F’s 9.5 ms input-lag result from Tom’s Guide’s 2025 testing indicates responsive gaming in the tested configuration. Input lag varies with resolution, refresh rate, picture mode and game settings, so verify the mode you will actually use. Ask the same questions of any alternative rather than assuming a low-latency result transfers between sizes.
HDR formats
Check the exact regional specification for HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision and broadcast HDR support. Format support can vary by brand, model year and market; the available evidence for this comparison does not establish a complete format table for every size. Match the television to the streaming boxes, consoles and discs you already own.

- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
- Exact model suffix and country of sale.
- Screen size, stand width, wall-mount pattern and depth.
- Whether the stated wide-angle or anti-reflection feature is listed for that size.
- Current stock, return window and warranty coverage.
- Power requirements and input layout for your installation.
No single current price is reliable across regions or dates, so compare live listings only after these checks. A discounted television with the wrong panel size is not a bargain if its viewing angle fails at your sofa.
A decision path for replacing a Hisense U7
- Map the room. Note window direction, overhead lights, viewing distance and the leftmost and rightmost seats.
- Rank the problem. If reflections are the main annoyance, prioritize screen treatment. If HDR looks flat in daylight, prioritize measured and sustained brightness. If side seats look washed out, prioritize a verified wide-angle panel or OLED.
- Select the shortlist. Start with QN90F for both problems, QM8K for brightness/value, G5 for premium wide-angle quality, or X90L for processing and motion.
- Verify the size-specific specification. Confirm the exact regional SKU, not just the family name.
- Test your content. Use a dark film scene, daytime sports, subtitles, a low-resolution stream and a game. These reveal different weaknesses.
- Set the room, not just the TV. Move lamps, add curtains or change the screen angle if a direct reflection remains. No coating can defeat a window aligned with the viewer’s sightline in every situation.
Common buying mistakes and fixes
Mistake: choosing by peak nits alone
Fix: Pair the brightness result with reflection behavior and full-screen use. The QM8K’s 3,332-nit 10% result is impressive, but it does not by itself establish wide-angle performance.
Mistake: assuming every size uses the same panel
Fix: Recheck the manufacturer page for the exact diagonal. Sony’s cited X-Wide Angle listing is tied to the 85-inch X90L specification.

Fix: Identify the offending light source and test at the planned installation. Coatings reduce intensity and spread; they do not make glass invisible.
Mistake: ignoring static content on OLED
Fix: If the television will display a desktop, scoreboard or news channel for many hours, vary content and use the panel’s protective features. Consider an LED model if that usage is unavoidable.
Mistake: comparing review numbers from different methods
Fix: Keep the window size, picture mode, test date and meter method attached to every number. A 10% HDR peak from one laboratory setup is not a promise of the same result in your room.
Bottom line: which alternative should you buy?
Buy the Samsung QN90F when bright-room reflections and off-axis seating are equally serious. It is the only option here with both Glare-Free and Wide Viewing Angle explicitly listed by the manufacturer, while still delivering high HDR brightness and a 9.5 ms tested input-lag result.
