“Free” on Android usually means free to download and start, not free of every cost. The games below include ad-supported titles, optional purchases, battle passes, paid upgrades, and gacha systems with random items. This is a 2025 retrospective updated for changes that affect whether each game is still playable.
Before installing, check the Google Play listing for your country. Availability, download size, Android requirements, servers, and monetization can change. The Android edition supports offline play and now advertises one-to-four-player couch co-op in landscape mode. Watch for: Ads and optional purchases.

Best for: Endless-runner fans.

Best for: Short competitive strategy matches.
Clash Royale combines collectible cards, tower defense, and real-time duels. You build an eight-card deck, deploy units into two lanes, and try to damage the opponent’s towers before the clock runs out. A good deck matters, but timing and elixir management matter just as much.

Best for: Open-world exploration.
Genshin Impact combines real-time action combat with a large fantasy world, puzzles, quests, climbing, gliding, and a rotating cast of playable characters. It remains one of Android’s most ambitious free-to-start games.
Watch for: In-app purchases and gacha character and weapon systems. Check the current Play listing before installing: download size, required free storage, supported devices, and performance expectations change frequently. Older or budget phones may struggle even if they can install it.

Best for: Five-on-five mobile MOBAs.

Games no longer suitable for this list
Two entries from older versions should not be copied into a current roundup. Disney Mirrorverse shut down on December 16, 2024. Final Fantasy Brave Exvius ended globally on October 30, 2024, and its Japanese service ended on October 31, 2025. Neither should be recommended as a playable Android game.
How to choose a genuinely free Android game
- Read the Play labels. “Contains ads,” “in-app purchases,” and “random items” describe very different costs. Treat each as a separate warning.
- Check whether offline play matters. Alto’s Odyssey, Smash Hit, and Vampire Survivors are better suited to flights or unreliable connections than Wild Rift, Pokémon GO, or Tower of Fantasy.
- Check storage before downloading. Large live-service games may need several gigabytes beyond the store download and additional space for updates.
- Look for age and privacy controls. This is essential for Roblox and any game with chat, user-created content, or real-money currency.
- Prefer a paid upgrade when you dislike monetization. Pocket City Free and the $2.99 Pocket City edition are a useful example: the free edition and the paid edition are separate products, not two descriptions of the same listing.
