A successful TestFlight upload does not mean the build is immediately available. It only confirms that Apple received the binary. Apple must process it before the build appears in App Store Connect, and Apple sends an email when processing finishes.
Open the app in App Store Connect, go to TestFlight, select the affected platform, and expand Build Uploads. The status there tells you whether to wait, correct the binary, answer export-compliance questions, or fix tester access.
Start with the upload status
Use this exact path in App Store Connect:
- Open My Apps and select the app you uploaded.
- Choose TestFlight.
- Select the platform you uploaded, such as iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, or watchOS.
- Expand Build Uploads.
- Find the upload by its version and build number, then open it for details.
Apple separates an upload’s processing state from the build’s testing state. A transfer reported as successful by Xcode, Transporter, or another upload tool is only an acknowledgment that Apple received the file. It is not a statement that the binary passed validation or is ready for testers.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors| Upload status | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Processing | Apple is still analyzing and validating the uploaded binary. | Wait and check the Build Uploads entry again. If it remains Processing for more than 24 hours, treat that as a possible problem and escalate to Apple. |
| Failed | Processing found an error, warning, or other issue that prevented completion. | Select the upload, read every error and warning, correct the project or signing configuration, and upload again. Apple says the same build number can be reused after a failed upload. |
| Complete | Processing succeeded and the upload produced a build ready for TestFlight workflows, although warnings may still need attention. | Expand the version in the builds list, select the build number, review warnings and compliance, then assign the build to the appropriate tester groups. |
Apple does not publish a universal processing time in its upload guidance. Do not assume that a particular number of minutes means something is wrong. The documented escalation point is a Processing status that lasts longer than 24 hours.

If the build is not listed at all
Check the platform selector
Builds are organized by platform. An iOS upload will not appear while the TestFlight page is filtered to another platform. Select the platform that matches the binary you delivered before concluding that the upload disappeared.
Check the version and build number
In the TestFlight builds list, expand the version number and then select the build number. A build can be present under a different marketing version than the one you expected, especially when the project’s version string was changed before upload. Use the exact version and build values shown by the upload tool and inspect each matching entry.
Allow for first-upload setup
When an app receives its first build, Apple creates a beta version in the account. The binary still has to be processed before that beta version and build become visible in App Store Connect. Apple says it sends an email when processing is complete.
What each build status means after processing
Once you open a processed upload, the build itself can have a status that explains why it cannot yet be tested. These statuses require different fixes.
| Build status | Why testing or visibility is blocked | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Invalid Binary | Apple received the file, but it did not meet upload requirements. It is not visible in TestFlight. | Open the status details, correct the reported binary or project problem, and deliver a new build. |
| Missing Compliance | Export-compliance information is required before the build can proceed. | Answer the export-compliance questions or provide the requested documentation in App Store Connect. |
| Waiting for Export Compliance Review | Apple has received the submitted compliance information and is waiting to review it. | No corrective upload is indicated while the review is pending; monitor the status. |
| In Compliance Review | Apple is actively reviewing the submitted export-compliance information. | Wait for the review outcome unless App Store Connect requests additional information. |
| Not Available for Testing | The provisioning profile does not contain an application identifier. | Create or select a valid provisioning profile containing the application identifier and upload a corrected build. |
| Ready to Test | The build can be tested, but no testers have been added yet, or manual notification was selected. | Add the build to an internal or external tester group and invite the intended testers, then notify them if your workflow requires manual notification. |
| Testing | At least one tester or tester group is using the build. | Review tester assignment and invitation state if a particular person still cannot access it. |
| Expired | The build has passed TestFlight’s 90-day availability window. | Upload a new build; an expired build cannot be used for TestFlight testing. |
| Rejected | TestFlight App Review rejected the build. | Read the review reason, make the required changes, and upload a new build for testing. |
When the upload says Complete but testers still cannot use it
Complete confirms successful processing, not automatic tester access. Apple’s build model describes the processed binary as ready for TestFlight distribution or App Store submission. Access still depends on the build’s status, compliance state, and tester configuration.
Verify the build is assigned to the right group
Open the build’s TestFlight status view and inspect its groups and invites. Confirm that the intended internal or external tester group contains this exact build number. A group can exist without the newly processed build being selected for it.

Check invitation and notification choices
A build in Ready to Test can remain unused because no tester has been added, or because the upload flow selected manual notification. Add the tester or group first, then send the invitation or notification required by your setup.
Review warnings on a Complete upload
Apple notes that a Complete upload can still have warnings. Open the upload and read them rather than treating Complete as a clean bill of health. Warnings may identify compliance or configuration work that affects distribution even though binary processing succeeded.

How to choose the correct fix
- Processing: wait, but escalate if it exceeds 24 hours.
- Failed: use the detailed error report, fix the cause, and re-upload; the previous failed build number may be reused.
- Invalid Binary: correct the upload requirement violation and deliver a new binary.
- Missing Compliance: complete the export-compliance submission.
- Waiting for Export Compliance Review or In Compliance Review: monitor the review rather than repeatedly uploading identical files.
- Not Available for Testing: rebuild with a provisioning profile that includes the application identifier.
- Ready to Test: assign the build to the correct tester group and invite or notify testers.
- Expired: upload a replacement because the 90-day testing window has ended.
- Rejected: follow the TestFlight App Review feedback and submit a corrected build.
Escalate a build that remains stuck
If the upload remains Processing for more than 24 hours, Apple’s guidance says there may be an issue. Submit a ticket through Feedback Assistant or contact Apple support. Include enough identifying information for Apple to trace the upload:
- The app’s version number.
- The build number.
- The date and time of the upload, including the time zone.
- The exact upload status shown in App Store Connect.
- Relevant Xcode, Transporter, or continuous-integration logs.
- Any error, warning, compliance, or signing message shown for the upload.
Describe whether the problem affects one platform or several, and state whether the build is absent entirely or visible with a specific status. This prevents support from investigating the wrong version or platform.
A practical pre-upload and post-upload checklist
Before uploading
- Record the marketing version, build number, platform, and upload time.
- Confirm that the archive uses the intended app identifier and provisioning profile.
- Keep the archive and upload logs until the build reaches Complete.
- Prepare the export-compliance information required for the binary.
Immediately after uploading
- Wait for the upload tool to report that the transfer itself finished.
- Open App Store Connect and select the same app and platform.
- Inspect TestFlight > Build Uploads rather than relying only on the uploader’s success message.
- Open the matching version and build number.
- Resolve Failed, Invalid Binary, compliance, provisioning-profile, or rejection messages.
- After Complete, assign the build to the intended tester groups and check invitations.
When a build appears to vanish
- Switch to every platform you actually uploaded.
- Expand the correct version number and inspect its build numbers.
- Check Build Uploads for Processing or Failed entries, not just the ready-to-test list.
- Look for an email from Apple indicating that processing has finished.
- If Processing exceeds 24 hours, escalate with the version, build, timestamp, and logs.
The key distinction
There are three separate gates: Apple must receive the binary, Apple must process and validate it, and TestFlight must make the processed build available to the intended testers. A successful transfer clears only the first gate. The TestFlight page, Build Uploads status, build-level status, compliance state, provisioning profile, platform/version selection, and tester-group assignment reveal which gate is stopping you.
