Short answer: The Rimac Nevera is the faster car on currently documented manufacturer specifications. Rimac lists 1.81 seconds from 0–100 km/h and a 412 km/h (258 mph) top speed. Tesla’s announced Roadster is quoted at 1.9 seconds from 0–60 mph, more than 250 mph and 620 miles of range. Those acceleration units and test contexts are different, and the Roadster figures describe an announced vehicle rather than a documented delivered production model.
The Tesla has the stronger practicality claim: four seats and a removable glass roof that stores in the trunk. The Nevera is a two-seat hypercar with a 489 km WLTP range, but it has documented global homologation and a strictly limited 150-unit production run. The fairest conclusion is therefore split: Nevera for verified performance and production status; Roadster for the more useful layout if Tesla’s announced specifications become a production reality.

What the Tesla Roadster and Rimac Nevera are
Tesla Roadster: an announced four-seat electric sports car
Tesla’s current Roadster product page presents the second-generation Roadster as an all-electric sports car with a claimed 1.9-second 0–60 mph time, a top speed above 250 mph, and 620 miles of range. Tesla also says it can seat four people and uses a removable glass roof that can be stored in the trunk.

These are manufacturer claims for an announced vehicle. The cited Tesla page does not document delivered production units or an independent test of the final car. That distinction matters because acceleration, top speed, battery capacity, curb weight, thermal management and charging hardware can all change before a vehicle reaches customers.

Rimac Nevera: a homologated, limited-production hypercar
Rimac describes the Nevera as a two-seat, all-electric hypercar with four independent motors, all-wheel torque vectoring and a carbon-fibre monocoque that incorporates the structural battery pack. Rimac lists global homologation and limits production to 150 units.
Rimac’s specification page lists 1.81 seconds from 0–100 km/h, a 412 km/h (258 mph) top speed, a 489 km WLTP range and a 120 kWh battery. A 2021 Rimac Automobili newsroom item gives an output figure of 1,914 hp and a price of €2 million. The price is tied to that 2021 newsroom material; it should not be treated as a current transaction quote or as proof that every market offers the car at that amount.
Acceleration: why the Nevera leads the documented comparison
The published numbers
| Metric | Tesla Roadster | Rimac Nevera |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturer acceleration claim | 1.9 seconds, 0–60 mph; announced vehicle | 1.81 seconds, 0–100 km/h; documented production specification |
| Top speed | More than 250 mph; Tesla claim for the announced Roadster | 412 km/h (258 mph); Rimac specification |
| Test comparability | Not a controlled head-to-head: the speed intervals, test methods and vehicle status differ. | |
It is tempting to declare a winner from 1.9 versus 1.81, but that would compare different speed intervals. Tesla’s 0–60 mph target ends at approximately 96.6 km/h, whereas Rimac’s 0–100 km/h figure ends at 100 km/h. The small difference in endpoint is not the only issue: the claims come from different manufacturers, with no shared test equipment, surface, tires, weather, driver procedure or independently verified run in this comparison.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsEven with those qualifications, the Nevera has the stronger documented performance case. Its 1.81-second figure and 412 km/h top speed are presented as specifications for a homologated production car. The Roadster’s figures remain targets for an announced model in the cited Tesla material. A future production Roadster could meet, exceed or miss those numbers; the available page does not settle that question.
What makes the Nevera’s launch system different
The Nevera uses one motor at each wheel. Rimac says its torque-vectoring system calculates drivetrain control more than 100 times per second, allowing the car to vary torque at each wheel rather than relying on a conventional mechanical differential to distribute it. That arrangement can manage traction during a launch and continuously alter the balance between stability, cornering response and driver-selected modes.
Miroslav Zrnčević, Rimac’s test and development driver, described the approach this way: “Our torque-vectoring enables new level of drivetrain calibration.” The statement explains the engineering goal, not a separate independently measured lap-time advantage.
The Tesla page cited for the Roadster gives the acceleration and top-speed claims but does not provide equivalent production-level detail about motor count, torque-vectoring frequency, battery architecture or launch-control procedure. It is therefore not possible to make a like-for-like drivetrain comparison from the supplied Tesla specifications.

Top speed is also a less useful daily measure than it appears. Reaching either figure requires a suitable closed course, tires and operating conditions, and repeated high-speed runs can be limited by battery temperature, motor temperature, tire approval and safety regulations. None of those operating conditions are specified in the cited Tesla page, and the comparison does not include an independent test under the same conditions.
Range and efficiency: a large headline gap with unlike test contexts
Published range figures
| Vehicle | Range claim | Test context |
|---|---|---|
| Tesla Roadster | 620 miles | Tesla manufacturer claim for an announced vehicle; the cited page does not identify a production test result or a WLTP rating. |
| Rimac Nevera | 489 km | Rimac’s WLTP figure. |
| Rimac Nevera consumption | 30.0 kWh/100 km combined | Rimac engineering-page figure under the combined WLTP cycle. |
If you read only the labels, 620 miles appears dramatically higher than 489 km. The figures cannot be ranked as if they came from one test cycle, however. Tesla’s number is expressed in miles and presented as an announced specification; Rimac’s is a WLTP result. WLTP is a regulated laboratory cycle used for comparable ratings within its framework, while a manufacturer’s announced range for a future vehicle may be based on a different method or target.
Rimac also publishes 30.0 kWh/100 km combined WLTP consumption. That number gives useful context for the Nevera’s 489 km rating, but it does not allow a reliable back-calculation of the Roadster’s real-world consumption because Tesla does not provide an equivalent consumption figure in the cited material.

Does the Roadster really have 620 miles of range?
“620 miles” is Tesla’s published claim, so it is reasonable to describe it as the Roadster’s announced range target. It is not yet a measured result from a delivered production car in the evidence available here. Until Tesla publishes a final battery specification, an official test-cycle rating and customer-car results, treat 620 miles as a claim to be verified rather than a guaranteed trip distance.
Actual usable distance for either vehicle would vary with speed, temperature, elevation, traffic, tire choice, passengers, climate control and how much reserve the driver keeps. Those variables are especially important in a hypercar: driving at sustained high speed consumes energy far faster than a certification cycle.
Passenger space and cargo: the Roadster wins on paper
Four seats versus two
Tesla says the Roadster seats four people. That is the clearest practical advantage in this comparison. It suggests the car could handle occasional rear passengers or provide extra interior flexibility that a two-seat hypercar cannot.
Rimac specifies the Nevera as a two-seater. That layout is consistent with a focused hypercar, but it limits the car to the driver and one passenger. A buyer choosing the Nevera must accept that no additional passenger capacity is available, regardless of the size of the luggage compartment.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Removable roof and trunk storage
Tesla says the Roadster has a removable glass roof that stores in the trunk. If the production car retains that arrangement, it adds an open-air driving option without requiring a separate convertible body style. It also introduces a practical question the cited page does not answer: how much usable luggage space remains once the roof panel is stowed.

No equivalent roof-storage feature is specified for the Nevera in the available material. Do not assume that the absence of a listed feature proves the car lacks every form of storage; it means only that this comparison has no documented Nevera roof-removal claim to evaluate.
What “practical” means for these cars
Practicality in an electric hypercar is not the same as practicality in a family hatchback. The relevant questions are whether the car can carry the people you regularly travel with, whether luggage fits without removing essential equipment, whether the charging and service arrangements match your routes, and whether the vehicle is actually obtainable.
On the first question, the Roadster’s claimed four-seat layout is decisive. On the last question, the Nevera has the stronger documented position because Rimac describes a homologated, limited-production car, while the cited Tesla page does not establish current deliveries. The Roadster therefore has the better theoretical utility but not the higher availability confidence.
Availability and production status
What is established for the Nevera
Rimac documents the Nevera’s global homologation and a 150-unit production limit. Homologation indicates that the vehicle has been certified for sale in the markets covered by the manufacturer’s approvals. The 150-unit cap also explains why rarity is part of the ownership decision: even a buyer who can afford the car may not find an open allocation.
Rimac’s specification and newsroom material provide a coherent production context: a named model, a four-motor architecture, published performance figures, a battery size and a defined production ceiling. That does not guarantee immediate availability in every country, but it is stronger evidence of a deliverable product than an announcement alone.
What is and is not established for the Roadster
The current Tesla Roadster page supports reservation or update actions and lists the headline targets. It does not establish that customer deliveries have begun, how many production cars exist, a final homologation schedule, a final battery capacity or a confirmed production date.
That uncertainty should shape any buying decision. A reservation or expression of interest is not the same as a delivered vehicle. Before treating the Roadster as a practical purchase, a buyer would need Tesla to confirm the production specification, delivery window, market certification, warranty terms, service arrangements and charging details for the exact region.
Battery, drivetrain and engineering trade-offs
Nevera’s integrated structure
The Nevera combines a carbon-fibre monocoque with an integrated structural battery pack. In a structural battery design, the battery enclosure contributes to the vehicle’s load-bearing structure rather than functioning only as a removable box. That can support stiffness and packaging efficiency, although the published material does not provide a direct weight comparison with the Roadster.

Its four independent motors enable all-wheel torque vectoring. Instead of treating the front and rear axles as fixed mechanical groups, the control system can meter torque at each wheel. Rimac says the calculations occur more than 100 times per second, a figure that describes the control system’s update rate rather than a guarantee of a particular cornering speed.
Roadster details still to be confirmed
Tesla’s cited Roadster page supplies headline acceleration, top speed, range, seating and roof claims, but not a final motor layout, battery capacity, charging rate, connector standard, curb weight or service specification. Those omissions are material for a technical comparison. Until Tesla publishes them for the production car, it would be speculation to claim that the Roadster uses a particular number of motors or matches the Nevera’s torque-vectoring strategy.
Charging and ownership practicality
What can be said confidently
Both cars are battery-electric, so every ownership plan depends on access to suitable charging. A buyer needs a reliable home or destination-charging arrangement, a route plan for longer trips and a service provider able to support a high-voltage hypercar. The available manufacturer pages do not establish the Roadster’s final charging rate, connector, charging network access or service network.
The same caution applies to a direct comparison of charging times. Without final battery usable capacity, charging curve, thermal limits, connector and charger specifications for both cars under the same conditions, a precise minutes-to-percentage claim would be unsupported.
Questions to ask before committing
- Which charging connector and charging standards are approved for the car in your country?
- What maximum DC charging power is supported, and over what battery state-of-charge range?
- Is a home wallbox installation recommended, and what electrical service does it require?
- Where can high-voltage diagnostics and battery repairs be performed?
- How are tires, brakes and other high-performance consumables sourced and replaced?
- What happens to warranty coverage if the car is stored for long periods or driven on a circuit?
These questions are not minor administrative details. A rare hypercar can be unusable for weeks if a specialized part, approved tire or trained technician is unavailable, even when its laboratory range is excellent.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which car is faster in real use?
For a straight-line launch
The Nevera is the safer answer because its 1.81-second 0–100 km/h claim is tied to a documented production specification. The Roadster’s 1.9-second 0–60 mph target is extremely quick, but the different endpoints and announced status prevent a controlled numerical victory.
For maximum speed
The Nevera again has the higher published figure: 412 km/h (258 mph) versus more than 250 mph for the Roadster. Both numbers describe specialized conditions rather than normal public-road performance.
For repeatability
No repeat-launch or thermal-endurance comparison is supplied. Battery temperature, state of charge, tire temperature and software calibration can change acceleration after several runs. It would be misleading to infer repeatability from a single headline specification.

Which car is more practical?
Choose the Roadster’s concept if flexibility matters most
The Roadster is the better fit for a buyer who values the possibility of carrying four people, wants a removable roof and is willing to wait for final production confirmation. Its claimed 620-mile range also promises fewer charging stops, but that advantage remains a manufacturer target in the cited material and is not directly comparable with the Nevera’s WLTP result.
Choose the Nevera’s documented product if certainty matters most
The Nevera suits a buyer who prioritizes a specified, homologated car with a known four-motor drivetrain, a published 120 kWh battery, a 489 km WLTP range and a defined 150-unit production limit. The trade-offs are equally clear: two seats, limited availability and the operating complexity of a €2 million hypercar figure quoted by Rimac in 2021.
Use this decision checklist
- Need four seats? The Roadster is the only one with a manufacturer claim for four occupants.
- Need a documented production car? The Nevera has the clearer homologation and production context.
- Care most about verified top speed? The Nevera’s 412 km/h specification is the higher, more precise figure.
- Care most about claimed long-distance range? The Roadster’s 620-mile claim is larger, but its test basis and production status need confirmation.
- Plan frequent high-speed or track use? Ask both manufacturers for repeatability, thermal-management and warranty conditions; the cited pages do not provide them.
- Need dependable local support? Confirm charging compatibility, parts supply and trained service coverage in your country before placing a deposit.
Common questions
Is the Rimac Nevera faster than the Tesla Roadster?
On the currently documented manufacturer specifications, yes. The Nevera is listed at 1.81 seconds to 100 km/h and 412 km/h (258 mph). Tesla lists the announced Roadster at 1.9 seconds to 60 mph and more than 250 mph. Because the acceleration intervals and vehicle status differ, this is not an independent head-to-head result.
Recommended Free Tools
Can four people fit in the new Roadster?
Tesla says the Roadster seats four. The available material does not provide dimensions or confirm how comfortable the rear seats are for adults, so the seating claim should not be read as a guarantee of full-size rear-passenger comfort.
Is the Nevera practical as a daily car?
It is more practical than a track-only prototype because Rimac documents global homologation, but it remains a two-seat, 150-unit hypercar. Daily usability will depend on local charging, service access, storage needs and the owner’s tolerance for rare-car operating costs.
Is Tesla’s Roadster actually in production?
The cited Tesla page presents the Roadster as an announced vehicle and supports reservation or update actions. It does not establish delivered production units, a final production date or final production specifications.
Are the two range numbers directly comparable?
No. Tesla’s 620-mile figure is an announced claim, while Rimac’s 489 km figure is identified as WLTP. Different cycles and the Roadster’s unconfirmed production status make a direct efficiency ranking inappropriate.
Bottom line
The Rimac Nevera is the faster electric hypercar on the strongest evidence available today: its 1.81-second 0–100 km/h time and 412 km/h top speed are documented alongside a homologated, limited-production vehicle. Tesla’s Roadster has the more appealing practical concept, with claimed seating for four, a removable roof and a 620-mile range target, but those headline figures remain attached to an announced car in the cited Tesla material. If you are choosing by verified performance and product certainty, choose the Nevera; if you are choosing by passenger flexibility and potential range, the Roadster is the more promising—but not yet fully confirmed—proposition.
