Autopilot is Tesla’s driver-assistance feature suite; Full Self-Driving (Supervised) is a broader package that can handle more route and maneuver tasks. Neither makes a Tesla autonomous: the driver must stay attentive and be ready to take control. Which features you can use depends on the vehicle and where it is registered.
What is the difference between Autopilot and Full Self-Driving (Supervised)?
Autopilot covers a narrower set of driver-assistance functions. Tesla’s Model S owner’s manual says every Tesla is equipped with Traffic-Aware Cruise Control, which maintains a set speed and an adjustable following distance. Other functions, including Autosteer and Navigate on Autosteer, are available only on select vehicles. The exact equipment can vary. Tesla Model S Owner’s Manual
Full Self-Driving (Supervised), or FSD (Supervised), is a broader feature package. Tesla says it can follow navigation, change lanes, choose route forks, navigate around objects, make turns and park, with the driver actively supervising. Is Tesla Autopilot or FSD actually self-driving?
No. Tesla describes these as driver-assistance features, not autonomous driving. The word “Supervised” in FSD (Supervised) is an important qualification: Tesla says the driver must remain fully attentive and be ready to take over at any time. Its support page states: “None of these advanced driver assistance features make your Tesla vehicle fully autonomous or replace you as the driver.” Tesla’s explanation of FSD (Supervised)

Where might the driver need to intervene?
Driver-assistance capability does not mean a feature will handle every road or situation. Tesla’s Model S manual warns that intervention may be required on narrow roads with oncoming cars, in construction zones and at complex intersections. It says: “Driver intervention may be required in certain situations, such as on narrow roads with oncoming cars, in construction zones, or while going through complex intersections.” Tesla Model S Owner’s Manual
Use the features only as described for your vehicle, keep your attention on driving and be prepared to take control. A feature’s ability to perform a maneuver does not transfer responsibility for supervising the vehicle.

Which Teslas have these features?
There is no single model-name rule that establishes feature availability. Tesla says equipment or behavior can differ by market region, manufacture date, vehicle configuration, options, hardware and software version. FSD (Supervised) eligibility also depends on vehicle configuration and hardware. A market being listed for the subscription does not mean every Tesla in that market qualifies.

- Confirm the registered market and current software availability; feature names alone do not establish that a particular car can use them.

Where is FSD (Supervised) available, and what does it cost?
As of the Tesla U.S. support page consulted for this article, the listed monthly subscription price is $99. The page lists the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark, Belgium and Slovenia as subscription markets. Tesla says price and feature availability can change, and eligibility depends on the vehicle’s configuration and hardware. Tesla’s product page reports “7x” fewer major and minor collisions compared with its estimated U.S. average when FSD (Supervised) is engaged. This is Tesla’s own comparison, not an independently verified finding established here, and it should not be treated as proof that FSD is universally safer than a human driver. The same page shows a changing mileage counter and explains that it increments at the average rate of Tesla fleet mileage per second; the counter may not include mileage increases from fleet growth or free trials.
