Short answer: no free host in this comparison guarantees an unlimited, uninterrupted Telegram bot indefinitely. Oracle Cloud’s Always Free Ampere A1 service is the closest match if your account is approved and capacity is available, but its current allowance is limited and restricted to your home region. Render’s free service sleeps, Railway’s free plan is credit-limited, and a small paid VPS is the most predictable option at roughly $5–$10 per month according to blog pricing reports.
For a bot that must respond reliably at all hours, choose a VPS and run one bot process under systemd. Try Oracle first if minimizing recurring cost matters more than setup friction and reclaim risk.

What “24/7 Telegram bot hosting” actually requires
A bot is effectively online when its process remains running, can reach Telegram’s Bot API, retains any state it needs, and restarts automatically after a crash or host reboot. “Always on” does not mean that every request is answered instantly: maintenance, network failures, Telegram outages and application bugs can still cause interruptions.
There are two normal ways for a bot to receive updates:

- Long polling: your process keeps an outbound connection to Telegram and asks for new updates. It normally needs no domain name or HTTPS certificate, which makes it simple on a VPS.
- Webhooks: Telegram sends HTTPS requests to a public endpoint. You need a reachable HTTPS service, certificate handling and a web server or application framework that accepts the requests.
Whichever method you use, run only one active consumer for a bot token. Two polling processes commonly compete for the same updates and produce conflict errors or missing messages. If you deliberately run replicas, use a queue and an architecture designed for coordinated consumption rather than starting duplicate pollers.
Free versus paid: the decision in one table
The figures below reflect provider information available on 14 October 2026. Free-tier rules and prices can change, so check the provider’s current terms when you create the account.

Oracle Always Free: the closest free match
What you receive
The current official Ampere A1 allowance is capped at 2 OCPUs and 12 GB of memory in total, across all qualifying instances in the tenancy. It is provisioned only in the home region selected for the account. That is ample capacity for a lightweight Python, Node.js or Go bot, a small database and ordinary monitoring, but it is not a guarantee that the capacity will be available at sign-up.
An older community post described 4 OCPUs and 24 GB. Treat that as historical context, not as an entitlement. Designing around the larger figure can leave an account over the current limit.
Why “free” can still fail
- Capacity errors: popular regions may temporarily have no Ampere capacity, so the create-instance operation can fail even when the account is eligible.
- Approval and verification: account creation and payment-card checks can reject or delay an application.
- Reclaim and enforcement: Community sources disagree on the date when the revised enforcement would apply, citing 15 June and 18 August 2026. No official date was confirmed.
- Idle policy uncertainty: any reclaim rule based on low utilization can interrupt a bot that appears healthy but does little work.
- Region constraint: moving an Always Free instance to another region is not a way around local capacity or quota limits.
When Oracle is the right choice
Use it when you can tolerate account approval and occasional capacity or reclaim risk, and when you are comfortable administering Linux. Keep a current copy of your code and configuration outside the instance so that rebuilding in a paid VPS is straightforward if the free allocation disappears.
Render free service: easy deployment, unsuitable for strict uptime
Render’s free web service is designed for development and low-traffic demonstrations rather than an uninterrupted worker. It sleeps after 15 minutes with no inbound traffic and wakes in roughly a minute. A polling bot’s outbound requests do not count as inbound traffic, so polling cannot reliably keep the service awake.

A webhook might cause an inbound request, but a sleeping service still introduces wake-up delay and does not remove the free-hour ceiling. The service also has no persistent disk, cannot scale beyond one instance and is suspended for the rest of the month after the workspace uses its free instance hours. Any local database or downloaded file disappears when the instance is replaced. Render’s free database option is temporary as well: a free Postgres database expires 30 days after creation.
Render can be useful for a prototype where a delayed first response is acceptable. It is a poor fit for alerts, moderation or transactions that must be handled while the service is asleep. Do not treat a keep-alive request as a reliability solution; it can violate platform policy and still cannot overcome the monthly allowance.
Railway Free: a credit, not unlimited hosting
Railway’s Free plan supplies a monthly usage credit rather than an always-on entitlement. The service limits are small enough for many bots, but runtime is metered. Once the credit is consumed, the service can stop or incur charges according to the account’s billing settings.
A one-time $5 trial credit can remain available for up to 30 days. This is different from describing the plan as a permanent $5 balance: the recurring Free allowance is $1 per month. A blog report of approximately $1.80–$2.40 per month for one bot is anecdotal, not a guaranteed rate.
The published unit prices make resource selection important. RAM, CPU, egress and attached volume storage are billed separately. Keep memory limits low, avoid unnecessary logs and monitor usage before assuming the bot will fit inside the credit. Railway is attractive when you value a managed deployment workflow and accept metering; it is not the best answer to “free forever.”
Why a cheap VPS is usually the dependable answer
Predictable process lifetime
A VPS does not normally sleep because a request has been idle. You decide when the process starts, how it restarts and where its logs go. That makes long polling straightforward and avoids the wake-up behavior of a sleeping platform-as-a-service instance.

Control and portability
You can install the exact runtime and libraries your bot requires, schedule backups, add a reverse proxy for webhooks and inspect the operating-system logs. A standard Linux layout also makes migration between providers practical. The trade-off is operational responsibility: you must apply security updates, restrict SSH, protect the bot token and watch disk usage.
Budget expectations
Blog sources commonly put a small VPS at roughly $5–$10 per month. Treat that as a planning range rather than a quote: location, bandwidth, IPv4, backups, tax and billing term can change the invoice. A bot that uses little CPU and memory often fits in the smallest plan, but leave headroom for dependency updates, a database and log growth.

Deploy a polling bot on a Linux VPS
The following procedure assumes Debian or Ubuntu and a bot application that starts with a command such as python bot.py. Replace paths and package names with those used by your project.
1. Create a restricted account and update the server
- Connect over SSH using the provider’s administrator account.
- Create a dedicated service user:
sudo adduser --disabled-password --gecos '' telegrambot. - Apply updates before deploying:
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade. - Allow SSH through the firewall and expose only ports your design needs. A polling-only bot normally does not need an inbound application port.
2. Install the runtime in a virtual environment
- Install Python and the virtual-environment package:
sudo apt install python3 python3-venv. - Place the application in a directory owned by the service user, for example
/opt/telegram-bot. - Create and activate the environment:
sudo -u telegrambot python3 -m venv /opt/telegram-bot/.venv. - Install pinned dependencies with the environment’s interpreter, for example
sudo -u telegrambot /opt/telegram-bot/.venv/bin/pip install -r /opt/telegram-bot/requirements.txt.
3. Store the token outside the source tree
Create an environment file readable only by root and the service account, such as /etc/telegram-bot.env:
TELEGRAM_BOT_TOKEN=replace_with_the_token
Set restrictive permissions with sudo chmod 600 /etc/telegram-bot.env. Do not commit this file to Git, paste it into issue trackers or print it in startup logs. If the token is exposed, revoke it through Telegram’s bot-management interface and issue a replacement.
4. Add a systemd service
Create /etc/systemd/system/telegram-bot.service:
[Unit] Description=Telegram bot After=network-online.target Wants=network-online.target [Service] User=telegrambot WorkingDirectory=/opt/telegram-bot EnvironmentFile=/etc/telegram-bot.env ExecStart=/opt/telegram-bot/.venv/bin/python /opt/telegram-bot/bot.py Restart=always RestartSec=5 [Install] WantedBy=multi-user.target
Load and enable it:
sudo systemctl daemon-reload sudo systemctl enable --now telegram-bot.service
Restart=always brings the process back after an exception or reboot, while RestartSec=5 prevents a tight crash loop. Your application should still handle errors, close resources and exit when it cannot operate safely.

5. Verify operation and read logs
- Check the unit:
sudo systemctl status telegram-bot.service. - Follow recent logs:
sudo journalctl -u telegram-bot.service -f. - Send a test message and confirm that the update is processed once.
- Reboot during a maintenance window and verify that the service returns automatically.
Configure log rotation or enforce a journal size limit. An unattended bot can fill a small disk with repeated tracebacks even when its code is otherwise correct.
Deploying on Oracle or a managed host
Oracle virtual machine
- Create the account and select the home region; do not assume another region can use the Always Free allocation.
- Choose an Ampere A1 shape whose aggregate OCPU and memory totals stay within the current allowance.
- Use an SSH key rather than password login, create the dedicated service account and follow the same virtual-environment and
systemdsteps as on any Linux VPS. - Record the instance’s public IP, firewall rules and disk-backup plan. Keep an export of the application and environment configuration outside Oracle.
If provisioning reports insufficient capacity, try again later or use another eligible availability domain in the same home region where the console permits it. Do not create oversized instances hoping that an older quota will still apply.
Render or Railway
Package the bot with a reproducible build, define the start command and expose the token as a platform secret rather than a committed file. Choose polling only if the platform’s worker behavior supports a continuously running process; a sleeping web service is not equivalent. For Railway, set a usage limit or alert and inspect the service’s memory, CPU, egress and volume consumption. For Render, assume that sleeping, the free-hour ceiling and lack of persistent disk are part of the design, not transient faults.

Choose polling for the simplest VPS deployment
Polling avoids domain and certificate management and works well when one process owns the token. Use a backoff strategy when Telegram or the network returns errors, and make handlers idempotent so a retry does not duplicate an external action.
Choose webhooks when you already operate HTTPS
Webhooks suit an application that already has a public HTTPS endpoint, reverse proxy and request authentication. They add certificate renewal, port exposure and endpoint monitoring. On a sleeping free web service, webhook delivery can encounter startup delay; that is a fundamental availability trade-off rather than a configuration detail.
Persist only what must survive restarts
Keep durable state in a database or external storage rather than the container filesystem. On a VPS, schedule encrypted backups and test restoring them. On a platform without persistent disk, assume local files can vanish whenever the instance is redeployed.

Common failures and fixes
The bot stops after being idle
This is expected on a sleeping free web service. Move the process to a worker type that remains active, switch to a VPS or accept delayed responses. A periodic self-request is not a dependable or necessarily permitted workaround.

Stop every duplicate process, then start one owner for the token. Check old VPS services, local development sessions and failed deployments that may still be running. If you require redundancy, implement coordinated leadership and shared update state instead of independent pollers.
The service restarts repeatedly
Use journalctl to identify whether the cause is a missing environment variable, dependency error, invalid token, network failure or application exception. Run the exact ExecStart command as the service user to reproduce permission and path problems. Fix the root cause before increasing restart delays.
Oracle cannot create or retains an instance unexpectedly
Capacity and quota are separate issues. Confirm the aggregate A1 OCPU and memory totals, the selected home region and the account’s verification status. Keep backups because an instance above the current allowance can be disabled and later deleted under the provider’s stated enforcement process.
The Railway bill exceeds expectations
Inspect per-service CPU, RAM, egress and volume usage, then remove idle services and oversized limits. Remember that the recurring credit is small and that the initial trial credit is temporary. Set billing alerts before putting a busy bot or AI-powered feature on the account.
Messages disappear after redeployment
Move state from ephemeral local files to durable storage and add a backup routine. On a free service with no persistent disk, treat every deployment and replacement as a possible data-loss event.
How to choose
- Choose Oracle Always Free if your priority is minimizing recurring cost, you can pass account approval, and you accept regional capacity and reclaim uncertainty.
- Choose a cheap VPS if the bot handles alerts, moderation, orders or other work where sleeping or credit exhaustion is unacceptable. The monthly fee buys predictable uptime and full process control.
- Choose Railway Free for a small project when metered usage, a single replica and a limited monthly credit are acceptable and you want managed deployment.
- Choose Render Free only for prototypes or low-stakes bots that can tolerate a wake-up delay, ephemeral storage and monthly suspension.
Budget separately for optional domain registration, backups, monitoring and any AI or third-party API calls. The Telegram Bot API itself is generally described by blog sources as free; hosting and add-on services are where recurring costs normally arise.
Bottom line
There is no truly unlimited free answer here. Oracle’s current Always Free allowance is the strongest zero-cost possibility, but approval, home-region capacity, revised quotas and uncertain reclaim enforcement make it less predictable than a paid server. Render is sleep-prone, and Railway is a metered credit plan. For a bot that must stay available and restart cleanly, a basic VPS in the roughly $5–$10 monthly range is the practical default.
