No. Technics is Panasonic’s hi-fi audio brand, while Audio-Technica Corporation is a separate company. Their similar names and overlapping audio products can cause confusion, but they do not share a corporate identity.
Who owns Technics?
Technics is a brand within the Panasonic Group, not a separate name for Audio-Technica. Panasonic describes Technics as its hi-fi audio-products brand in its About Technics page. Panasonic’s brand history also identifies Technics as one of its business brands.
What is Audio-Technica?
Audio-Technica Corporation is an independent audio company with its own corporate identity. Its official company profile says it was founded on April 17, 1962, by Hideo Matsushita. The company lists a broad range of audio-related products, including headphones, microphones, mixers, amplifiers, speakers, cables and cartridges.

Why are the names easy to mix up?
Both companies make products for audio use, and their ranges overlap in categories such as turntables and cartridges. Audio-Technica lists turntables and cartridges in its product categories, while Panasonic’s history documents Technics audio products. A shared product type does not mean that one brand owns or makes the other.

How Technics fits into Panasonic’s history
Panasonic says Technics was first used as a brand for domestic high-end speakers in 1965. Its 2014 group chronicle says production under the Technics brand ceased in 2010, with the SL-1200MK6 identified as the last product, before the brand relaunched in December 2014. That history is about Technics and Panasonic; it does not connect Technics to Audio-Technica.

Choose between particular products based on the model’s features, price, intended use, compatibility and availability of service or replacement parts—not on an assumption that the brands are interchangeable. Brand identity alone does not establish that one is better than the other.
