As of October 11, 2026, the confirmed announcements and reported workforce changes below do not add up to a complete company-by-company tally of tech job losses. The entries distinguish announced cuts from future plans and from a year-over-year decline in employee numbers; those are different measures, and overlapping figures should not be added together.

These statuses mean that a reliable total is not established here; they do not prove that a company made no cuts. A useful update should identify the announcement date, affected business unit, whether the figure is announced or planned, and the source for the number.
How to interpret the different kinds of numbers
Announced cuts
A company announcement about roles being eliminated describes a particular event or set of cuts. It is not automatically the same as the number of employees who ultimately leave: some affected employees may move to another role, as Amazon’s announcement illustrates.

Future plans
A planned reduction covers expected changes over a future period. Keep it separate from roles eliminated on the date the plan was announced, and note any overlap with a company-wide announcement. Combining those figures can count the same roles twice.

Workforce declines
An employee-count reduction over a 12-month period is a comparison between workforce levels. On its own, it does not establish when employees left or how many departures were layoffs announced during the calendar year.

How to use this tracker
- Read each figure with its date, scope, and measure; do not treat a plan or workforce decline as an announcement of current-year layoffs.
- Do not add Xbox’s division plan to Microsoft’s company-wide figure as though the two were independent totals.
- Treat Apple and TikTok totals as unresolved here, and Meta’s surfaced figure as unverified, until direct confirmation or reliable reporting establishes the details.
- Do not infer that AI caused a cut merely because a company is adopting AI. Preserve what the company or reporting actually says, including Microsoft’s explicit statement about its July eliminations.
