Yes. Teamwork documents project-linked time entry, billable and non-billable classifications, configurable rates, and reports that compare billable time with invoiced time. That makes it a plausible fit for agencies and other client-service teams. Whether it works for your business depends on your rate structure, reporting and permission needs, accounting workflow, and the plan that currently includes the features you need.

This assessment is based on Teamwork’s official product documentation, not a hands-on test.

How Teamwork handles billable time

Team members can log, edit, and delete entries through My Timesheet. Time tracking must be enabled for the relevant project, and project and task permissions affect what a person can log time against. Teamwork says entries can also be created from several areas of the product. See Teamwork’s time-logging documentation.

Each entry can be classified as billable or non-billable. That distinction lets a team separate client-chargeable work from internal or otherwise unbillable time in reports. It does not, by itself, ensure that all client work is logged or that the entries match a contract; consistent time entry and correctly configured projects remain operational requirements.

How rates are applied

Teamwork supports billable rates at several levels. Its onboarding guidance says the most specific available rate takes precedence, in this order:

  1. Project rate
  2. Client-role rate
  3. Role rate
  4. Site-wide user rate

Many teams can start with site-wide defaults and add role or project rates for exceptions. Role rates are intended for consistent pricing across people in the same role; project rates can accommodate negotiated or client-specific pricing. Teamwork explains its billable-rate options and rate precedence in its onboarding guide.

Billable rates represent what the client is charged; cost rates represent the internal cost used in profit calculations. Teamwork says site-wide cost rates are visible only to site owners and owner-company administrators. Visibility of project financial information is also permission-controlled, so review access before sharing budgets or profitability figures. Read the cost-rate guidance.

What its reports can show—and where to be careful

The Time Report can group time by user, project, task, team, or company; compare billable with non-billable hours; and help identify differences between billable and invoiced time. Filtered report data can be exported. Teamwork’s Time Report documentation describes these options.

Checks to make before choosing it

  • Map your rate rules. Identify which clients or projects need exceptions to your default user rates, and confirm that the documented precedence matches your contracts.
  • Test the time-entry permissions. Check that time is enabled on the projects people work in and that they can log against the right tasks.
  • Review financial visibility. Decide who should see billable rates, project budgets, and profitability information, then verify the relevant permissions.
  • Validate your reporting workflow. Confirm that the Time Report’s groupings, billable-versus-non-billable view, exports, and handling of changing rates meet your needs.
  • Confirm billing and accounting details. Check the required plan and verify how logged time moves into invoices and your accounting connection.
  • Price the complete setup. Compare the current plan cost for your team size and required features rather than relying on a dated price snapshot.
