TDM Neo is a wireless headphone that becomes a portable speaker when you twist its earcups together. That makes it most compelling for people who regularly switch between private listening and playing audio for nearby company—not necessarily for anyone looking for the best standalone headphones or speaker.
The U.S. launch price reported on October 6, 2026 was $249, and TDM’s product page lists the same price with a ship date of October 16. Check the current TDM listing before buying, since price, stock, and shipping can change.
How does TDM Neo turn headphones into a speaker?
Twist the earcups together and Neo switches from headphone playback to outward-facing speaker playback. The earcups attach magnetically, and coverage describes a separate button and app options for handling the mode change. The mechanism is the product’s defining feature: one device can move from listening privately to sharing audio nearby without carrying a second speaker.
Launch coverage reports four 40 mm drivers: two facing inward for headphone listening and two facing outward for speaker use. TechRadar’s January CES account says the two driver sets have separate amplifiers. TDM describes the product as transforming “from high-fidelity headphones into a powerful portable speaker with a single physical twist.” That is the manufacturer’s description, not an independent sound-quality finding.

Who is the two-mode design actually for?
Neo makes the most sense if you often move between listening alone and playing audio for people around you—for example, at home, at a desk, or while spending time with friends. Its value depends on using both modes enough to justify a hybrid device.
- Consider it if carrying one device instead of separate headphones and a portable speaker is useful, and neither mode needs to be your top priority.
- Compare purpose-built options first if you mainly want headphones for commuting, extended wear, or focused listening, or a speaker for regular shared playback. The available sources do not provide a controlled comparison establishing that Neo outperforms separate products.
Before buying, consider how often you would really twist between modes, whether the weight suits you, whether you need active noise cancellation, and how much you care about sound quality in both configurations.

What do the battery and other specifications tell you?
| Detail | What is reported | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Headphone battery | TDM advertises “200+ Hrs.” on its product page; October 2026 launch coverage reports up to 200 hours. | These are company or launch-coverage claims, not standardized independent measurements established by the sources reviewed. |
| Speaker battery | October 2026 launch coverage reports up to 16 hours. January 2026 CES coverage reported 10 hours. | The reported figure changed between early and launch coverage. Treat 16 hours as a current claim, not a verified test result. |
| Weight | TechRadar and SoundGuys report 340 g. | That is a practical consideration if you prioritize lightweight headphones or wear them for long periods. |
| Active noise cancellation | The campaign FAQ says Neo does not have ANC and describes its cushions as providing passive isolation. | If active noise cancellation is important, this feature is absent. |
| Bluetooth and app | October 2026 launch coverage lists Bluetooth 6.0 and an app with Game Mode, location tracking, and separate EQ controls. | The campaign FAQ also mentions Bluetooth backward compatibility and a 3.5 mm jack, but it is older; confirm current port details with TDM before relying on them. |
What is known—and not known—about comfort and sound?
At CES, TechRadar’s Matt Bolton said the short headphone trial felt balanced and comfortable, but stressed that he did not have enough time to form a strong opinion about sound quality. He also noted that the noisy show floor made it a poor place to judge speaker performance. These are limited hands-on impressions, not the findings of a full review or a controlled listening test.

The sources reviewed do not establish standardized battery performance, sound quality in both modes, or how Neo compares with separate headphones and a speaker. That leaves an important buying question open: whether the convenience of the twist mechanism comes with compromises you would notice in everyday listening.

What about the hinge and battery replacement?
The creator FAQ says the hinge uses high-tensile stainless steel and is designed for tens of thousands of rotations. That is a manufacturer claim; TechRadar’s October launch coverage says long-term wear or failure remains untested. The available evidence does not establish how the hinge will hold up over extended use.
The Kickstarter FAQ also describes a user-replaceable modular battery. Because that information comes from the campaign FAQ, check current product documentation or ask TDM before relying on it for repairs or long-term maintenance.
