How to choose for your room and budget
Set a price ceiling and screen size together
A low price does not guarantee that the size you want is available at that price. At the cheapest tiers, size choices can narrow; moving up a little may make a larger set or one with local dimming attainable. Compare the specific screen size you need rather than a product line’s lowest advertised price.
Match brightness and screen finish to the room
For a bright room, a brighter television or a matte screen may be more comfortable. The U7SG is described as brighter and matte-screened compared with the QM6K. In a room with strong windows or lamps, also consider how reflections look from your normal seating position; budget glossy screens may show them.

Consider dark scenes, not just bright demo footage
Local dimming can improve black depth by controlling sections of the backlight, but it does not guarantee a perfectly clean dark image: bright subtitles or objects may still produce blooming or halos. The QM6K can show deep blacks but may glow around bright elements; the QD6QF lacks local dimming and is weaker in dark scenes. If you mostly watch films in a dark room, those compromises deserve extra weight.
Check gaming features on the exact model
Before buying for a console or PC, confirm the native refresh rate, the resolution supported at higher frame rates, variable refresh rate (VRR), and HDMI capabilities for that exact size and suffix. Some low-cost TVs support higher frame rates only at reduced resolution or omit more advanced gaming features. Do not infer a feature from a family name alone.

Make sure the apps you use are available
Smart-TV platforms differ in their app selection and interface. RTINGS’ under-$500 guide notes that Vizio’s selection is smaller than Google TV’s. Check for your household’s essential streaming and music apps before choosing a set; a TV’s picture value is less useful if it does not support the services you rely on.
Why the best-under-$500 answer can change

Those rankings address changing stock and guide scope, not a timeless winner: one model can be a sensible general budget pick while another is the more dependable choice under a strict price cap at the time you shop.
