The TCL P80 Ultra stands out on paper for combining a large, high-refresh AMOLED screen with switchable NXTPAPER reading modes and a 3x periscope telephoto camera. Those features give it a distinctive pitch, but the available information does not establish how the screen, cameras, battery or performance fare in independent testing. The buying decision therefore comes down to whether those features suit your priorities—and whether the current price, support policy and warranty make sense where you live.
What the P80 Ultra offers
TCL’s global product page lists a 6.83-inch, 1.5K AMOLED display with refresh rates up to 120Hz and peak brightness up to 3200 nits. TCL also lists up to 100% DCI-P3 colour coverage and bezels as narrow as 1.38mm. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. TCL says its figures are based on internal data or lab tests and that real-world performance can vary with usage conditions.
The unusual part of the pitch is that the screen is intended to serve both as a conventional smartphone display and as a reading-oriented display. A dedicated NXTPAPER key is listed as the shortcut for switching modes. The idea may appeal if you read on your phone often, but a feature description cannot establish whether it will feel comfortable to you or improve eye health.

How the reading modes are described
TechRadar’s September 3, 2026 hands-on report describes two options: Max Ink Mode, intended to reduce distractions and power consumption, and Paper Mode, which aims to create a paper-like viewing experience with adjustable eye-care settings. These are descriptions of the features and their aims, not clinical findings or independent proof of a health benefit.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If reading is your main reason to consider the phone, try the modes in person if possible. Check whether text remains comfortable at your preferred size and lighting, whether the mode’s appearance suits the material you read, and how quickly you can switch back to the regular display. Those are personal-use questions; the published specifications alone cannot answer them.
Camera hardware: a telephoto is the differentiator
TCL lists a three-camera rear system: a 50MP main camera with a 1/1.56-inch sensor, a 50MP 3x periscope telephoto camera and an 8MP autofocus ultra-wide camera. The front camera is listed at 32MP. TCL also advertises “6x Lossless Zoom” and OIS + EIS; those are manufacturer claims, not independently established image-quality results here.

A dedicated telephoto camera gives the P80 Ultra a useful hardware distinction from the Pixel 10a, which Expert Reviews says lacks one. That does not, by itself, establish which phone takes better photographs. Expert Reviews identifies the Pixel’s overall camera quality as a strength, while its comparison notes that the Nothing Phone (4a) also includes a telephoto camera. Choose based on the kinds of shots you take and, where possible, compare real sample images rather than relying on megapixel counts or zoom labels.

Which phone makes more sense for your priorities?
Choose the P80 Ultra if the display concept is central
The combination of a large AMOLED panel and switchable reading modes is the clearest reason to put the P80 Ultra on your shortlist. It is especially relevant if you want one device to handle ordinary phone use and distraction-reduced reading. Consider it a feature-led choice, not a proven eye-comfort or battery-life solution.
Consider the Pixel 10a if camera results and support matter more
Expert Reviews points to the Pixel 10a’s overall camera quality and seven years of software support, while noting that it has no telephoto camera. If long support and general camera performance outweigh optical zoom flexibility for you, that is a meaningful trade-off to investigate. Confirm the current support policy and local pricing before buying.

Compare the Nothing Phone (4a) if you want telephoto hardware at a lower cited price
Expert Reviews cites a £399 price for its 256GB version and says it includes a telephoto camera. The P80 Ultra’s cited 256GB UK price is £480, so the Nothing was £81 lower in that review’s price context. That comparison does not establish current prices or a camera-quality advantage for either model.
Check the Honor 600 if update duration is a priority
Expert Reviews cites the 256GB Honor 600 at £399 and six years of OS and security updates. The cited information does not establish how its display modes or camera system compare in full, so verify the details that matter to you as well as current availability and support terms.

What is known about battery, memory and charging
TCL lists a 5800mAh battery, 45W charging, up to 512GB storage, and 8GB RAM with up to 16GB RAM expansion. These are published specifications. The available information does not provide independent battery-life, charging-time or performance results, so those figures should not be treated as proof of real-world endurance or speed.
Price, availability and what comes in the box
Expert Reviews reports UK prices of £480 for 256GB and £530 for 512GB. TechRadar’s September 3, 2026 hands-on report gives an announcement starting price of €549. Different currencies, markets and timings make these figures unsuitable as a direct price comparison. Check a current retailer listing in your country for the exact storage variant, final price, availability and warranty terms.
TCL Europe’s IFA 2026 announcement says the box includes the handset, a cable and a TPU protective case. That does not establish what every regional package contains, so check the local listing if the included accessories matter to you.

The P80 Ultra’s most compelling case is the pairing of a large, high-refresh AMOLED display with NXTPAPER reading modes and a 3x periscope telephoto camera. The feature set is unusually focused, but the specifications and hands-on feature descriptions do not establish independent screen, camera, battery or performance results. Before choosing it over the cited alternatives, check the local price, software-support policy and warranty, then decide whether the reading modes and telephoto camera are worth the difference for your use.
