The TCL NXTPAPER 70 Pro makes a strong case for a budget phone if you spend a lot of time reading on your phone. Its matte 6.9-inch display cuts reflections and offers color, muted-color, monochrome and more restricted reading modes. But it is not an E Ink phone, and the same finish that makes text comfortable can make video and games look less vivid than they do on a conventional display.
TechRadar’s August 30, 2026 review describes using it on and off as a main phone for a month, including calls, browsing, ebooks, comics, photos and video—not a controlled lab comparison. The review found routine use smooth and solid for the price, while noting limits in camera ambition, charging and media presentation. Its reviewed US 128GB option was listed at $329.99; check the live listing and storage tier before buying.

What makes the NXTPAPER 70 Pro different?
The defining feature is TCL’s NXTPAPER 4.0 display: a 6.9-inch, 1080 × 2340, 120Hz panel with a matte treatment and software modes that alter how the screen presents content. It remains an LCD-style phone display, not a literal sheet of paper or an E Ink panel. TCL’s January 5, 2026 announcement describes a physical NXTPAPER Key for switching among Color Paper, Ink Paper and Max Ink.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

That does not establish a medical benefit. TCL says the display reduces harmful blue light to as low as 3.41%, but that is the manufacturer’s statement, not an independently demonstrated health outcome. Its product page describes the screen as “adapts like real paper, easing long hours without the usual strain”; treat that as marketing language rather than proof of reduced eye strain.

How do the display modes work?
Color Paper
This mode retains color with a more subdued, paper-like presentation. Use it when reading colored web pages or comics but wanting a less glossy look than the regular color mode.
Ink Paper
Ink Paper shifts the presentation toward monochrome, making it a natural choice for text-focused reading. It is a display mode, not electronic ink technology.
Max Ink
Max Ink is the most restricted, monochrome reading mode. TCL says it can provide up to seven days of reading or up to 26 days of standby in this mode. Those are manufacturer endurance claims, not TechRadar’s independently measured daily battery results; actual runtime depends on use.

Regular color
For video and other content where vivid color matters, the review recommends returning to the normal color mode. The display is usable for video, but the reviewer found the image quality better in the less paper-like presentation. A physical NXTPAPER Key makes the mode changes readily accessible.
What was it like to use as a phone?
TechRadar describes standard use as smooth and solid for the price, while cautioning readers not to expect flagship performance. The phone has a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 processor, 8GB of RAM and storage configurations of 128GB, 256GB or 512GB. That is a practical foundation for calls, browsing, reading and everyday apps; the review’s main differentiator is the screen, not a claim that it outperforms pricier phones.
The 50MP main camera and 32MP selfie camera are adequate for everyday snapshots in the review’s assessment, but the camera is not positioned as a strength for ambitious photography. If standout photos matter more than a reading-focused screen, the reviewer points to the Pixel 10a as an alternative at a higher price.
How long does the battery last, and how does it charge?
The phone has a 5,200mAh battery and supports wired charging up to 33W; wireless charging is absent. In TechRadar’s testing, continuous video playback lasted 10 hours 55 minutes, and the reviewer reported more than a day of standard use. These are that publication’s test results and usage observations, not a guarantee for every owner. TCL’s much longer Max Ink figures apply to its specific reading and standby claims, not normal mixed use.
How much does it cost?
Prices vary by storage tier, offer and market. TechRadar reported the US 128GB option at $329.99 and listed $379.99 for 256GB and $429.99 for 512GB in its 2026 review. TCL’s US store page currently displays different sale prices across storage variants, so the review figures should not be treated as guaranteed current offers. Confirm the capacity, region, and final price on the live listing before ordering.
The $330 headline price is therefore a useful shorthand for the reviewed US 128GB configuration, not a universal price for every version. More storage costs more, and promotions can change the amount you pay.
Should you buy it or choose a conventional-display phone?
It suits readers who prioritize long reading sessions
If articles, ebooks or comics occupy a large part of your phone time, the reduced reflections and selectable paper-like modes are a meaningful distinction. The display gives you a way to make reading more comfortable without carrying a separate reader, while still keeping ordinary color mode available when needed.
Compare other phones if movies and games come first
If vivid video or game graphics are your priority, compare conventional-display budget phones before buying. TechRadar names the Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G as an alternative for buyers who want a traditional presentation for media. The NXTPAPER finish is a compromise for those uses rather than a universal display upgrade.

Buyers seeking a stronger camera or longer battery life may want to consider the Pixel 10a, which TechRadar identifies as a pricier alternative. The NXTPAPER 70 Pro also lacks wireless charging, and its wired charging tops out at 33W.
What about stylus support?
TCL says the phone can pair with a low-latency, pressure-sensitive T-Pen, which could be useful for handwriting or annotations. Confirm the exact compatible stylus model and local availability before purchasing; support for a pen does not by itself establish that a particular model is included or readily sold in your region.
