The Target Food Processor TAFP9042 was a compact, budget model that CHOICE found capable at several basic food-preparation tasks in testing reported in 2019. CHOICE now marks it discontinued, so its old $49 price is historical—not a current offer—and the published results are best used to assess a second-hand unit rather than shop for a new one.
What the TAFP9042 is
CHOICE lists the TAFP9042 with a 500 W motor, a 1,800 mL medium bowl, three blades and a weight of 2.6 kg. Its listed dimensions are 40 x 24 x 23 cm (H x W x D). CHOICE marks the model discontinued and does not state warranty years on its product entry. See CHOICE’s product entry.
A separate device database lists TAFP9042* and related codes BTFP9042*, FP9042 and FP9042K-SA, with an ERAC entry dated 2016-08-29. That provides model-family context only; it does not establish that the variants share accessories or replacement parts.

What CHOICE found in its 2019 tests
In an article updated 29 May 2019, CHOICE described testing tasks including slicing carrots, making breadcrumbs, shredding cheese, kneading shortcrust pastry and emulsifying mayonnaise, as well as operation and cleaning. CHOICE reported that the TAFP9042 handled key tasks well. In the breadcrumb task, it scored 100% for evenly and finely chopped bread, compared with 80% for two KitchenAid models in that same test. CHOICE also said its carrot-slicing results matched those of tested Russell Hobbs and Kambrook processors, which it described as about twice the price at the time. CHOICE home economist and tester Fiona Mair said the machine “performed consistently well and, in some cases better than, models from other leading brands we’ve tested.” Calling it compact, with a decent-sized bowl and few parts, she also said, “This machine is a great size for a family.” Both comments are from the article updated 29 May 2019. Mair’s separate description of it as “a great little machine for just $49” referred to the historical price in that coverage.
The accessible product entry does not provide the numerical CHOICE Expert Rating, overall performance score, ease-of-use score, noise level in decibels or full scores for individual tasks. The breadcrumb figures above are the specific published comparison; they should not be used to infer an overall rating.

Where the design falls short
- Noise: CHOICE described the processor as very noisy.
- Limited tools: It came with few attachments, including one size of shredding/slicing blade.
- Storage: There was no dedicated storage for blades or tools.
- Pulse control: The pulse button had to be held down during use.
CHOICE also noted a safety lock on the large chute and said the blade was simple and safe to clean. Its assessment balances those practical points against the limited accessory set and noisy operation.

Is a TAFP9042 worth considering now?
It may be worth considering as a used appliance if the unit is complete, works properly and is priced accordingly. CHOICE’s testing offers a positive historical signal for basic processing, particularly breadcrumbs and carrot slicing, but it cannot establish the condition or value of a particular second-hand machine. The $49 figure belongs to CHOICE’s 2019 coverage, and the product page’s discontinued status means it should not be treated as a current price or proof that every unit is unavailable.
