If a character title seems not to unlock in Tales of Eternia Remastered, first update the game to version 2.0.0 or later, restart it, and verify the character’s Title list. A reward message can use a different English name from the menu, and many titles require a precise threshold plus a conversation, return visit, or completion trigger. Some events are also limited to a specific story window.
What a missing title usually means
A title that does not appear is not automatically evidence of a software fault. Titles are awarded for several different kinds of conditions: reaching a level, mastering skills or artes, completing recipes, collecting items, finishing Craymel or encyclopedia goals, passing quizzes, meeting minigame scores or times, clearing difficulty challenges, and triggering story or location events. Each character has a different list, and the game may require one final interaction after the measurable condition is complete.
For example, reaching the required number of battles may satisfy only the first part of a title condition if the checklist also requires a difficulty setting. Completing a collection may still require returning to a named NPC. A title popup may appear to be missing simply because you are searching the Title menu for the popup’s wording rather than the menu’s wording.

On your platform, let the update finish, confirm that the installed version is 2.0.0 or newer, then completely close and relaunch the game. Do not diagnose a missing title from an unpatched launch build. No authoritative source currently confirms a specific post-2.0.0 bug that prevents a particular title from being awarded, so treat a missing title as a requirement, timing, naming, or save-state issue until a platform-specific failure can be reproduced.
Why the popup and Title menu can have different names
The text shown when a title is awarded is not always the label used in the in-game Title menu. RPG Site gives a clear example from the advanced Tales quiz: the reward popup says “Tales Series Mega Mind,” while the menu lists the title as “Teller of all Tales.” Both labels refer to the same award.
When checking a reward, open the Title list for the character who completed the condition and look for a newly filled entry, not only for an exact text match with the notification. If you dismissed the message quickly, the menu is the authoritative place to confirm whether the title is recorded. Record both names when reporting a suspected problem.
How title requirements are organized
| Requirement family | What must be completed | How to verify | Typical recovery |
|---|---|---|---|
| Level | Reach the exact level for the specified character. | Check that character’s status and Title list after the level-up. | Continue leveling; these goals are normally available whenever that character can gain experience. |
| Skill or arte mastery | Learn or master the listed abilities, not merely use one ability once. | Compare the character’s skill or arte list with the title checklist. | Acquire the missing skill or finish its mastery, then recheck the menu. |
| Recipe and cooking | Complete the required recipe or cooking set, sometimes with a related contest condition. | Review recipe completion and any contest result, then check the Title list. | Finish the missing recipe or event and repeat the required follow-up conversation. |
| Collection | Meet a specified Lens, treasure, Collector’s Book, Monster Compendium, or similar total. | Use the relevant collection screen; a count alone may not trigger the award. | Collect the missing entry and revisit the NPC or location named by the checklist. |
| Craymel | Obtain the required Craymels, including Greater Craymels where stated. | Confirm every listed Craymel is present, then inspect the character’s titles. | Obtain the remaining Craymel and complete any return visit. |
| Quiz | Pass the specified Tales quiz tier. | Check the menu label rather than relying on the popup wording. | Replay the required tier and verify the menu entry. |
| Minigame or performance | Meet a score, time, clear count, or activity condition. | Wait for the result screen and record the score or time shown there. | Repeat the activity until the exact target is met. |
| Difficulty or battle | Complete the stated number of battles or challenge on the required difficulty. | Confirm the difficulty setting and battle count before leaving the challenge. | Repeat on the required difficulty; a lower-difficulty clear may not count. |
| Story or location | Reach a specified scene, town, ship activity, or sidequest state. | Return to the listed location and speak to the required character. | Reload a save before the window if the event was time-limited. |
Character-specific requirements and common traps
The following examples show why checking the correct character and exact condition matters. They are requirement categories and examples documented for the remaster, not a substitute for the individual entry in your Title menu.

Reid
RPG Site lists Reid’s level titles at levels 10, 30, 60, and 99. His other conditions include skill goals, recipe mastery, treasure and Lens totals, and three Tales quiz tiers. His activity titles cover the arena, speed challenges, rafting, Craymel Ball, train bombing, Chamballoon, WHIS, sushi, and Ocean Offensive. A separate Berserker condition requires 256 battles on Hard mode. If that title is missing, verify both the battle count and the difficulty; a count achieved on another setting is not the same condition.
Farah
Farah’s list includes level, skill, and recipe requirements, as well as skit, cooking-contest, and sidequest conditions. A completed recipe set does not automatically prove that a contest or sidequest trigger occurred. Check the relevant event result and then revisit the Title list for Farah specifically.
Keele
Keele’s requirements include obtaining all Greater Craymels, completing recipes, filling the Collector’s Book, completing the Monster Compendium, and visiting locations for event triggers. Collection totals should be checked in the appropriate book or compendium, followed by any required conversation or return visit.
Meredy
Meredy’s titles include fringing, letters, dance, and story-location triggers. These are easy to misread as general story progress. Confirm the named activity or location condition and whether the checklist expects a specific scene or a later return.

Chat
Chat’s list includes levels, skills, recipes, ship upgrades, and activities aboard the Van Eltia. A ship upgrade or Van Eltia activity may need to be completed through the ship’s own interaction rather than inferred from having advanced the story.
Step-by-step fix for a title that did not appear
- Update and restart. Install version 2.0.0 or later on your platform, close the game completely, and relaunch it. This removes launch-version text issues from the diagnosis and ensures the revised title carryover behavior is present.
- Open the correct character’s Title list. Select the character named by the requirement and inspect the menu entry. Do not rely solely on the reward box that appeared during play.
- Write down the exact menu label. If the notification used different wording, record both names. The advanced quiz example demonstrates that this naming difference is expected.
- Break the requirement into individual checks. Confirm the exact level, skill or arte list, recipe, Craymel count, Lens or treasure total, quiz tier, minigame score or time, battle count, difficulty, or story location stated for that title.
- Confirm the completion screen. For a minigame, wait until the final score or time is displayed. For a quiz, make sure the required tier was cleared. For a collection, verify that the final item is registered in the collection screen.
- Perform the follow-up trigger. If the checklist names an NPC, skit, town, ship, or return visit, carry out that interaction after completing the measurable goal. Some awards are granted only after this conversation or location check.
- Check for a limited-time window. Look for an hourglass icon in the game’s event information. The remaster uses hourglass icons to mark title or item events available only during a particular story period.
- Reload an earlier save if necessary. If an hourglass event was missed, load a save from before the relevant story transition and complete the event in its window. A later save may not allow the same trigger to be repeated.
- Use another playthrough when the window is gone. On a cleared-save New Game+, review the transfer settings. Version 2.0.0 specifically added Titles to the carryover elements for second and later playthroughs, but the game still requires the appropriate transfer setup and the underlying condition may need to be met again depending on that setting.
- Document a reproducible case. Before contacting support, note the platform, installed version, character, exact Title-menu label, popup wording, condition completed, difficulty, story location, and save used. This distinguishes a naming or timing issue from a repeatable award failure.
Recognizing missable title events
Not every title is permanently available throughout the story. The remaster’s feature summary identifies hourglass icons as markers for events that award titles or items only during a limited period. Treat an hourglass as a deadline indicator, not as a decorative symbol.
- When an hourglass appears, make a manual save before advancing the story.
- Complete the marked conversation, sidequest, or location visit before leaving the area or triggering the next major scene.
- Return to the required NPC after finishing the collection or activity if the checklist specifies a second interaction.
- If the event is missed, reload the earlier save rather than repeatedly checking the same later location.
Story-trigger titles can also require a particular order. Completing a collection before the relevant scene may not award the title until you speak to the named character afterward.
Why apparently complete conditions can fail
The wrong character received the progress
Requirements are character-specific. A party-wide level, recipe, or collection achievement does not mean every character receives the corresponding title. Open the list for the named character and verify that the condition belongs to that character.

The threshold was close but not exact
Level, score, time, count, and collection goals use the exact value stated by the title. Being one item short, clearing a slower time, or stopping before the final battle can leave the title locked. Record the displayed result instead of estimating it.
The mastery state was misunderstood
Using a skill or arte is different from learning or mastering the complete set. Compare the ability list with the requirement and identify the specific entry still incomplete.
A collection was filled but not registered
Lens, treasure, Collector’s Book, and Monster Compendium goals depend on the game recognizing the entry. Check the collection screen after obtaining the final item, then perform any listed NPC or location follow-up.

The event happened outside its valid window
An hourglass-marked title can disappear from the current route after a story transition. The absence of a later popup is expected if the event was not completed in time; use an earlier save or another playthrough.

The popup name was searched in the wrong place
A different English label can make an unlocked title look absent. Search the character’s menu for the corresponding entry, especially for quiz rewards.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Checking titles in a second or later playthrough
Version 2.0.0 changed carryover behavior by adding Titles to the elements that can transfer into second and later playthroughs. Start from a cleared save and inspect the New Game+ transfer choices rather than assuming every title will appear automatically. If a title is still absent, verify whether the transfer option was enabled and whether you are checking the same character’s list.
Carryover does not make a missed, time-limited event retroactively occur in the original save. It gives you another route to preserve or pursue title progress through the remaster’s cleared-save system. Keep a separate manual save before beginning New Game+ so that you can check transfer choices again if needed.

Report a problem only after the patched-version, naming, requirement, timing, and save checks have been completed. A useful report includes:
- Platform: Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, or Steam.
- Installed game version, confirming 2.0.0 or newer.
- Character and exact Title-menu label being investigated.
- Popup wording, if a reward message appeared.
- The complete condition, including level, count, score, time, difficulty, collection, or location.
- Whether an hourglass icon was present and which save was loaded.
- Whether the condition was checked after a restart and after the required NPC or location visit.
This information lets support distinguish a genuine reproducible award failure from an untranslated label, an incomplete subcondition, a missed event window, or a title recorded under an unexpected menu name.
A compact checklist before you replay anything
- Is the game updated to version 2.0.0 or later?
- Did you restart after updating?
- Are you viewing the correct character’s Title list?
- Did you compare the menu label rather than only the popup wording?
- Did you meet the exact level, mastery, recipe, Craymel, collection, quiz, score, time, battle, or difficulty requirement?
- Did you complete the required conversation, skit, sidequest, or return visit?
- Was the event marked with an hourglass?
- Do you have an earlier save from before the relevant story window?
- If using New Game+, did you enable the Title carryover option on a cleared save?
- Have you recorded the platform, version, character, label, and save details for a reproducible report?
Bottom line
Most “missing” character titles in Tales of Eternia Remastered are explained by an exact character-specific requirement, a required follow-up interaction, a limited story window, or a mismatch between popup and menu names. Patch to version 2.0.0 or later first, verify the menu entry, work through every subcondition, and reload an earlier save when an hourglass event was missed. Only after those checks should you treat the result as a possible platform-specific bug.
