The safest way to beat bosses in Tales of Eternia Remastered is to build around the listed elemental weakness, keep a second character applying melee stagger pressure, and reserve a fourth slot for healing and status recovery. Those weaknesses do not change on Normal, Hard, or Hardcore; only enemy parameters rise—by 20% on Hard and 50% on Hardcore. No reliable published source gives fixed recommended levels, so readiness depends on equipment, survivability, TP, resistance items, and the correct Craymel setup rather than an arbitrary number.
How boss weaknesses and difficulty scaling work
Elemental weaknesses are consistent across the three difficulty settings. Changing difficulty alters enemy parameters, not the element you should use. A spell or summon that exploits a weakness therefore remains the right choice on Hard and Hardcore, although you will need more damage, healing and endurance to finish the fight.
| Difficulty | Enemy parameter change | What changes for your plan |
|---|---|---|
| Normal | Reference values | Use the boss table as the baseline for HP and EXP. |
| Hard | Parameters are 20% higher | Expect longer fights and heavier incoming damage; preserve TP and healing resources. |
| Hardcore | Parameters are 50% higher | Phase openers and status mistakes are much less forgiving; defensive preparation matters as much as damage. |
Resistance is as important as weakness. A nullified element produces no useful damage, so leaving the wrong spell in the queue can turn a caster into dead weight. The practical rule is simple: exploit the weakness shown below, remove any spell that the boss nullifies or heavily resists, and make sure your support character can recover from the boss’s signature status effect.
Greater Craymel counters and spell access
Greater Craymels determine which elemental combinations your mages can cast. The counter relationships are:

Craymel Fringing merges the elemental knowledge of leveled spirits to unlock spell combinations. A mage can only use the combinations available in that mage’s assigned cage, so moving a spirit between cages can change the spell list without changing the party. Summons become substantially more valuable when their element hits a weakness; a summon that meets a resistance is a poor use of casting time and TP.
Only one spell animation runs at a time. In a real-time fight, queueing several expensive spells does not create simultaneous damage. Assign one mage to the current weakness and use the other caster or support slot for healing, status recovery and utility. This prevents the party from freezing its own damage output while everyone waits for animations to finish.
Boss weakness and resistance reference
The following are the normal-mode reference values from a launch-version boss guide last verified on October 15, 2026. HP and EXP are reference values, not recommended level requirements.
| Boss | Location | Weakness | Resistance or nullification | HP | EXP | Practical note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Undine | Undine Stream | Lightning | Water null | 6,800 | 1,360 | Keep water spells off the queue; combine lightning with steady healing. |
| Sylph | Sylph Cavern | Earth | Wind | 6,600 | 1,929 | Accuracy reduction can make long physical combos unreliable. |
| Efreet | Efreet Gorge | Water | Fire null | 24,000 | 2,723 | A fire-focused caster contributes little; switch to water. |
| Gnome | Mine of Gnome | Wind | Earth null | 16,160 | 3,000 | Separate wind damage from the boss’s earth resistance. |
| Celsius | Mt. Celsius | Fire | Ice; partly physical | 33,333 | 4,000 | Freeze resistance is valuable; normal attacks can inflict instant death. |
| Volt | Ruins of Volt | Water | Lightning null; physical | 54,321 | 3,600 | Clear paralysis immediately and avoid lightning. |
| Rem | Regulus Knoll (crypt) | Dark | Light null | 100,000 | 40,960 | Treat the battle as a late-game endurance fight. |
| Shadow | Shadow Cave | Light | Dark | 100,324 | 32,768 | Bring light access and avoid dark damage. |
| Maxwell | Farlos Sanctuary | None listed | Elemental | 34,000 | 34,002 | Use mixed physical and support play, adjusting to each phase. |
| Sekundes | Shizel’s Castle | None listed | Most elements; partly Time | 200,000 | 60,000 | Prepare for phases and do not enter with an untested party. |
What level should you be?
Published boss references provide locations, HP, EXP, weaknesses and resistances, but they do not establish numeric recommended-level thresholds. Assigning a level such as 30 or 40 would imply a precision the available evidence does not support. Use a readiness checklist instead:

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Equipment: you are using the strongest story equipment available in the current region, with no party member still wearing obsolete armor.
- Survivability: every active character can survive the boss’s opening sequence or phase opener without relying on a lucky miss.
- Healing: your healer has enough TP for a prolonged fight and can recover from the boss’s main status condition.
- Resistance item: you have the resistance item sold or obtained in the relevant region, especially for Freeze at Celsius, paralysis at Volt and accuracy reduction at Sylph.
- Craymel access: the mage’s active cage contains the spirits needed for the target weakness, and the resulting spell appears in the usable list before you enter.
- Practice: you can identify the boss’s phase change and retreat or retry without spending your entire inventory.
If you are below the point where these checks are true, gain experience, improve equipment or adjust the party rather than chasing an arbitrary level number. On Hard and Hardcore, use the same checklist but allow more margin for HP, TP and defensive items because the parameter increase lengthens every mistake.
A practical four-person party formation
Front-line control
Control Reid or another front-line fighter in Manual mode. Your job is to keep the boss facing away from the mage, interrupt attacks with frequent hits and create stagger windows. Do not chase a combo after the boss has begun a dangerous cast; disengage and let the caster finish the weakness spell.
Second melee or martial attacker
The second physical character supplies constant hit pressure while the controlled fighter repositions. Set this character to an aggressive but survivable behavior, then change the order if a phase punishes close-range attacks. Two melee characters are especially useful against bosses with no listed elemental weakness, because they provide dependable damage while mages concentrate on support.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWeakness caster
Assign one mage to the boss’s listed weakness. Put the required Greater Craymels in that mage’s cage before entering the dungeon, and remove resisted spells from the active queue. A single well-timed weakness spell is more useful than several incompatible spells competing for the one animation slot.

Healer and support
Reserve the remaining caster or support position for healing, status recovery and defensive utility. This character should not be forced to alternate between damage and emergency healing every few seconds. Against status-heavy bosses, prioritize removing the ailment immediately instead of waiting for a damage opportunity.
Step-by-step Craymel and spell preparation
- Identify the target element. Read the boss table and note both its weakness and its nullified or resisted element.
- Open the relevant mage’s cage. Confirm which Greater Craymels are assigned to that mage; the other mage’s spirits do not automatically grant access to the same combinations.
- Use Craymel Fringing. Merge the leveled spirits required for the weakness combination. If the spell is missing, move spirits between cages and fringe again rather than entering with an untested list.
- Verify the spell in the menu. Check that the intended spell is available, affordable in TP and assigned to a command or behavior the mage will actually use.
- Clean the queue. Remove the boss’s nullified element and any slow, expensive spell that would delay healing when the fight becomes dangerous.
- Test once outside the boss room. Cast the spell against a nearby enemy so you know its range, animation time and positioning requirement.
- Recheck after changing difficulty or party order. Difficulty does not change weaknesses, but a different formation can leave the mage exposed or place the healer too far from the front line.
Boss-by-boss strategy
Undine
Use lightning from the prepared mage and keep water magic out of every command queue because it is nullified. The fight is short by later-game standards, so maintain stagger pressure rather than spending the entire battle on elaborate setup. If the front line is pushed away, pause aggressive behavior long enough for the healer to restore HP before the next lightning cast.
Sylph
Earth damage is the reliable offensive answer, while wind damage should not be your plan. Accuracy reduction can make long physical strings fail at the worst moment. Use shorter, repeatable attacks, keep the accuracy-resistance item ready and let the mage carry the damage whenever the front line starts missing.

Fire is nullified, so a fire-specialist caster contributes almost nothing. Change the active mage to water before entering, keep the boss turned away from the healer and avoid overcommitting to a combo that leaves the party exposed to a large counterattack. The higher HP pool makes TP management more important than bursty but inefficient casting.

Gnome
Use wind and leave earth spells off the queue because earth is nullified. Keep one melee character close enough to interrupt attacks while the controlled fighter moves the boss away from the support line. If the mage is being hit during casts, change party order rather than replacing the weakness spell with a resisted element.
Celsius
Fire is the offensive element to prepare. Freeze resistance is valuable because a disabled front line can allow the boss to complete a lethal sequence. Normal attacks can inflict instant death, so do not treat ordinary physical swings as harmless chip damage; use defensive timing, keep the healer ready and avoid letting both melee characters stand in the same attack path.
Volt
Use water and remove lightning from the queue because it is nullified. Paralysis must be cleared as soon as it lands; a paralyzed healer or controller can turn a recoverable mistake into a wipe. Keep a status-recovery command immediately accessible and use the support character to stabilize the group before resuming damage.

Rem
This is a 100,000-HP endurance fight. Dark access is essential, while light damage is nullified. Save enough TP for the final stretch instead of spending everything during the opening, and rotate the front line when healing or status recovery would otherwise be delayed. The battle rewards consistency more than a single risky burst window.

Shadow
Bring light damage and avoid dark attacks. With more than 100,000 HP, Shadow punishes a party that relies on one caster or one long combo. Keep melee pressure steady, protect the light caster and use support actions whenever the boss forces the party to separate.
Maxwell
No elemental weakness is listed, and Maxwell has elemental resistance. Build around mixed physical damage, healing and support rather than trying to force one element through resistance. Use Battle Retry to learn the timing of each phase opener, then change party order or cage assignments if a character is repeatedly caught before acting. Phase awareness matters more than a nominal level target.
Sekundes
Sekundes has 200,000 HP, resists most elements and is partly resistant to Time. Enter with a tested formation, not an experimental spell list. Keep at least one melee source of dependable damage, reserve TP for healing through phase transitions and use Battle Retry to identify the opening attack of each phase. If the opener defeats an unprepared group, move the healer or change the controlled character’s position before trying to add more damage.
Common failure points and fixes
- The caster deals no damage: check for a nullified element, then rebuild the cage with the correct Greater Craymels.
- Spells appear to stall the fight: only one animation runs at a time; use one weakness caster and let the second caster heal or support.
- Combos keep missing: Sylph’s accuracy reduction can make long strings unreliable. Use shorter attacks and the regional resistance item.
- The party collapses after a status hit: place status recovery on an immediate command and reserve TP for it. This is especially important for Freeze at Celsius and paralysis at Volt.
- A phase opener kills everyone: use Battle Retry, identify the opener, then change party order, spacing or cage assignment before attempting another damage-focused run.
- Hard or Hardcore feels impossible: the weakness has not changed; enemy parameters have. Upgrade equipment, increase your HP and TP margin and stop spending resources on resisted spells.
Bottom line
Prepare the correct elemental counter, remove every resisted spell, and organize the party around two layers of safety: melee stagger pressure in front and a weakness caster plus dedicated healer behind it. Because no authoritative level thresholds are published, judge readiness by equipment, survivability, TP, resistance items and a successful Craymel Fringing setup. Maxwell and Sekundes require phase practice and Battle Retry more than a specific level number.
